THE SNOWDONIA WAY MOUNTAIN ROUTE | Wild Camping UK

  • The Snowdonia Way Mountain Route has been, by far my biggest challenge yet! Hiking through the stunning Snowdonia National Park, and wild camping on some of wales highest mountains has been an unforgettable experience!
The Mountain Route is 122 miles long with a total elevation of 32794FT. The trail is rated difficult and is not a signposted route.
We found the GPS maps for the trail on the Hiiker app, where they have split the route into various stages, starting in the town of Machynlleth and ending in Llandudno Junction. It is by far the most beautiful trail I have hiked and wild camped in the UK. The trail includes climbing Mount Snowdon, which is the highest mountain in Wales.
In Part 1 we complete the first three stages of the Snowdonia way mountain route, ending in the town of Trawsfynydd. We take in some challenging and gorgeous mountains en route including Cadair Idris and Y Garn. Wild camping in wales has been a great experience of wild camping UK, in this episode, we wild camp on three mountains and never had any issues.
To download the Hiiker App please click the link below
    hiiker.page.link/DOW
The discount code for their premium version is DOW.
This is the fourth UK long distance hiking trail I have completed this year, and my fifth in total. I first started falling in love with long distance hiking and wild camping last August when I wild camped the West Highland Way, then as soon as lockdown finished this year I wild camped the Cleveland Way, the Cumbria Way and most recently The Great Glen Way in Scotland
I have tried to include as much useful information about the trail as possible, possible wild camping locations, info about the Hiiker app GPS maps we used, good places to stock up on food and supplies en route etc.
Please don’t forget to drop me a comment, I love hearing from you. If you are planning on hiking any UK National trails this year let me know!! Or if you enjoy wild camping UK and come across any beautiful wild camping locations that I may enjoy, drop me a comment!
The tent I used on this route way the Salewa litetrek 2. Please don’t forget to subscribe to my channel Drunk On Wanderlust, more episodes and adventures heading your way x

Unbelievable that you only had one day of bad weather - you sure you were in Wales....those bags looked big and heavy mind, and real steep up the first 'hill'. Stunning morning to wake up too and a great place to cool of in the river, defo the right call to make camp early, man what a view! Such a shame the mist spoilt your views on the mountain summit, especially after all your hard work. When the sun did break through, wow the views were breathtakingly awesome. What a picture at 17.11, especially with the setting sun as a backdrop. Nightmare getting down and 3 miles in 5 hours and sorry for Charlotte falling over, never fun. To be honest - amazing effort and really looking forward to part 2! Cheers Alan

That shelter on top of cadir idris lol ... I spent 50 hours stuck up there in bad weather. Lots of snow covering the Cairns marking the route back down and then a white out fog came in, couldn't see 3 foot in front of you . Oh my God and the wind would lift the roof right up and slam it back down again all 2 nights and days long . I remember thinking enless there is some idiot sleeping up top of snowdon I'm the highest man in the country in a bloody storm . I had intended to spend one night up ther but not 50 hours against my will . Bloody scary that roof lifting up. And icicles inside. You can't buy experiences like that . It's a great memory now.

Hi Kerry, I throughly enjoyed this video. It’s one of very few vids on this route and it’s going to be a motivation for me to do it! I did mention that the mountain route would be hardcore, so 100% respect for doing it. The Rhinogs can be a daunting place when it gets pathless and you find yourself walking through heather, on steep terrain, with hidden holes (I’ve been there!).
Hope the injury is recovering? I also hope there will be more vids to follow?
If you plan to carry on with the trail (if you haven’t already), I would advise that the Glyders section is super rocky. I’ve always appreciated ankle supporting boots there.

    Love your videos.
As an ex army man with tones if expedition experience...
It's important to point out the need to take a map.
Why? Deaths have occured when people have climbed mountains reliant on apps alone
Issues arise, Weather, Injuries, illness, or plain lost etc all lengthening the journey and then, the battery runs out.
When the battery goes flat one loses the map and crucially, a means to phone for assistance.
    Days later bodies are recovered.
Worth mentioning when championing the use of navigation apps to navigate.
    Otherwise, great Vids guys!👍

Question to Charlotte- How do you find your rucksack?

    • @charlottemorrison9074
      @charlottemorrison9074 Před 3 lety

Its a great little pack. I bought it because I wanted to shave weight off my long distance hiking set-up. But it excels for me with all of the different compartments so I can keep things separate and easily accessible. The only gripe I had originally was that the back panel it comes with doesn't really have much air flow. So In the end I upgraded to their airflow sitlight pad which works a lot better for me as its a little stiffer too. If you are looking for a lightweight pack I would highly recommend it.

Hi, Great credit to you for taking the time to film and edit your adventures, something im not very good at as i don't have the patience.....however, id like to see your viewings increase as from a personal view i have trouble watching all the video. I want to but i think there are a few things you could do to increase that and make them better.
1...You appear to look to the edge of my TV like you are looking at your picture on the phone, rather than a the camera lens.
2... compared to other vids i follow, the camera is held too high when you are speaking / commenting. A selfy stick may help.
3...CZcams doesn't like any bad language of any sort, it limits who sees your vids.
4... Try not to continually stare at the camera. i want to blink for you, lol
Im local to you and would like your channel to blossom as i know its hard work and has to be enjoyable... I hope you take this as constructive criticism and maybe crack 10k views soon on a regular basis.......

🙈 ahh yeah I know about the not looking at the lens thing, I’m filming everything on my I phone atm so naturally look at the centre of the phone when filming when the camera lens is actually off to one side, but it’s a habit I need to get out of … totally agreed .. it’s ok when it’s on a tripod etc but when I’m holding it yeah it’s tricky x hoping to save for a go pro soon where the camera lens is centred and I can put on a selfie stick further out which would help 🤗
