wow,how do you know,what taal/raga its played in...and,what is raga, by the way? I have always been intrigued by this kind of music.
+Jack Frost Each taal has a pattern called a 'theka' which is repeatedly played by the tabla player. It lets the players know where they are in the cycle so they can remain in sync with each other. This taal is decided in advance by the players.
A raag is a kind of melodic scale with the ascending series of notes the same as the descending series of notes though there are raags that are played differently descending than when played ascending. If you can recognize the notes of the raag, then you know the raag similar to recognizing a major scale played up and down.
There are thousands of raags. I hope this helps.

I find my self shaking my head when he performs a marvelous melody... I was born in the wrong place and in the wrong body... And probably in the wrong time... hahah Also when I first started playing bansuri I also noticed that I would stop to wipe the embouchure the same way they do it. But this was before I had even watched videos of Bansuri players.. Hah, its just one of those instinctual reactions/habits I suppose.
