I’ve had my Max 9 for 3 years and have about 1000 rounds through it.
The best way to improve the Max 9 is the Galloway short stroke trigger, I have had a great experience with this trigger in this gun.
I have had only 1 malfunction during my first 100 rounds, and I think I caused it.
I trust this Ruger Max 9 with my life.
However I have seen other Max 9’s have issues, one had to be sent back to the factory.
Train with your pistol, it will tell you how to proceed.

I feel the Max 9 handles the recoil very good. It is more than controllable and easy to get back on target after the reset. It’s a great shooter.

I have carried this for about 2 years. It has had no failures, with about 2k rounds through it. It is snappy, if you compare it to a full sized pistol. I replaced the trigger with the Maxxis Short Stroke and it became much nicer to shoot, in my opine. I would have no problem recommending this gun to anyone. With a t-shirt on and IWB carry, you cannot see it at all.

    Nice review!
I bought mine with the trigger spongieness in mind but knowing MCarbo had a spring kit and Galloway had the short stroke trigger i liked, and it has been the best carry gun since doing the upgrades. before that i had the LC9s and the SA XD9. I thought about getting the Sig P365 but i feel it's a bit chunky, and being chunky myself i need a slim gun that wont leave a dent on the love handles. I also managed the recoil by using the 12rd extended mags which only add 3/4inch length to the mag which is nothing. I have a size large hand and i can fully hold the grip with all fingers. Mine also came with the red dot sight so thats probably why i can shoot it really good. Did the Carry license test with it and got 248 out of 250, and that was because of 2 shots that hit the 7 ring at 15yrds. Use the 12rd mags that gives you a better grip and you will see how manageable the recoil is.

I don’t find the max 9 to be snappy at all. I’m running the 12 round mags or the 10 round mags with the extension for your pinky so I get a better grip on it. I actually like the gun a lot. I don’t think it can be beat for the 269 I paid for it. You really have to love those PSA sales.

I have had one for a couple months now and my only complaint was the factory trigger due to its long travel and extreme forward curve. This was remedied with a Galloway Precision flat face short stroke trigger which cost $39 shipped...
I also own a Taurus GX4 and a Smith & Wesson Shield Plus which in the beginning I liked more than the Ruger but after the trigger change the Ruger now is equal to the other two.

Didn't know that running a heavier grain bullet is good for breaking in a new firearm. Always a tough choice on grain weight with a short barrel. Will try that out next range visit with the usual well lubed pistols

I have had my Ruger Max-9 over a year. First thing I did was to replace the trigger with the $40 Maxxis Short Stroke.
Ruger makes great products (I have 5 or 6 different firearms from them), but the original trigger really disappointed me.
Much better now thanks to Galloway Precision. Excellent choice for anyone's EDC.

Most firearm manufactures say to shoot 200-300 rounds of fmj in a striker firearm before shooting hollow points. All steel or steel/aluminum firearms, they usually say to shoot 500 rounds of fmj before shooting hollow points.

Got some Ruger parts for a friend about 6 days ago that were surprisingly flawless looking. With not even a hint of rust and appearing to have a thin coat of oil on them I figured they'd be fine in the bag they're in until I ship them. I'm in NY, it's winter and the air is extremely dry, so there's no way they're going to rust... and now they entire slide is covered in a thin layer of gold rust. Most people say that they're blued, but I'm not sure if that's true. Even cold bluing doesn't rust that easily. Just sucks, because I really like the way their finish looks. I always hated Cerakoting over original finishes on gun parts if they're not already damaged in some way... but I'm starting to wonder if it's just a necessary step/cost in the purchase of a Ruger firearm. I just don't get why their old Ruger Standard models never rusted (MKI, MKII, MKIII, MKIV and 22/45 models).

Just bought one... Academy has the on sale for $335.00 I also have a Ruger Max 380... And found that The "Houston" Eco holster is very good.. IWB or ITB, inside the belt as I like to call it... Why have bigger pants..lol.. But emailed Houston and they say model CHP 57A is the one you want.. I think 26 bucks shipped.. If it fits the Max-9 like it does the 380, we are good to go.. The reason I was watching was the trigger issue.. I find that pinchy..lol.. so researching triggers.. and Galloway also makes them.. I think there is also a spring kit that you can get as a package as well.. Thanks for the info...

Ruger told me the slide rattle is a good thing on my lcp max. Less friction/debris affecting when cycling with looser slide/frame lockup. Love my max, but it started dropping mags while firing. Not good, but WOW, their customer service is spectacular. They're going to check the whole firearm while they have it and replace anything of concern. Test fire. Different options to ship. Very friendly. I just hope they don't mess with my m-carbo trigger. They're having me sign a paper about removing any aftermarket parts that aren't their factory spec.

The first time I shot my Max 9 I ended up with a blister on my trigger finger after 100 rounds. It was caused by the sharp edges on the trigger safety. Unless you insert your trigger finger beyond the first joint you can’t avoid the sharp edge and pointed end of the safety. I’m going to call Ruger but I suspect I’m going to have to shell out for an aftermarket trigger to fix the problem. So much for the low price advantage.

The snappiness is the recoil spring. It’s too soft, when you switch to the heavier Galloway it feels less but is heavier to rack. Also check the spec sheets, the max9 is thinner than p365 (0.95 vs 1 inch) and lighter (18.4 vs 18.5 no basically no difference).
The shitiest part of the max9 is that recoil spring that is going to break. For me the Galloway heavy spring feels the same as stock P365.

It’s mainly the trigger that rattles and that little plastic plug on the bottom of the handle where the magazine sits flush. I didn’t think it was a big deal. My shield and p365 don’t rattle but it doesn’t make me think any less of the Ruger.

Hellcat 9mm hell of a kick and mag immediately chaffed my pinky WTF?? PASS. 3rd. M&P Shield. just after 6 rounds I didnt like it trigger was annoying. And finally I thought I'd save the best for last. max 9. I didnt like the kick though not as bad as Hellcat, Didnt like the trigger and would rather stick to my old ass LC9. I tried to like it and fired another 30 rounds but Didnt like the grip either and overall very disappointed as I do like Ruger. @@bbazzracing I own both guns. The LCP Max is about a 1/2” in length shorter at the muzzle than the G42. It also carries a 10rnd magazine and/or a 12rnd magazine at its maximum capacity. Yes it’s also 3 ounces lighter than the Glock because there’s less metal in the gun with a shorter barrel and slide length. But when you add the extra weight of the bullets in the larger magazines, the weights between the two guns levels out. But I like the G42 better simply because it’s a better and more comfortable gun to shoot. The recoil is far softer than the Max. Also, the Max is horribly inaccurate past 10 yards, whereas the G42 still holds tighter groups beyond that distance. The G42 is more reliable too when it comes to less malfunctions than the Max. Finally, the trigger pull on the G42 is better than the Max. Just my thoughts.

I have close to a 1000 rounds no malfunctions. It's very accurate for me up to 20 yards. It has double the capacity, lighter, better sights, and smaller footprint for deep concealment. With my mods it has very little recoil and the trigger is lighter and crisper than any Glock trigger. I can shoot it very fast and accurately with both hands or strong hand only. I can have 25 rounds of American Gunner XTP hollow points on me. Seems better then a Glock 42 to me. Just saying. 🤷🏿‍♂️

    More than a DB9? 😳

I can answer that for you. No hands down the DB 9 is the heaviest recoiling 9mm gun on the planet. The max 9 feels like a 22 compared to the db 9

Having to use a pin punch for disassembly to clean makes it a no for me.

I got rid of my max 9 for one reason….. the trigger on mine was literally worse than a hi point. Overall I liked the gun but there are just so many options nowadays for the same price that have significantly better stock triggers and I prefer to keep my carry guns internals completely stock. Just my 2 cents.

Ruger lost my trust years ago when i got a horrifically unreliable sr9. It broke my heart. What a great shooter. It was just very unreliable. Sent back 3 times and never performed 100%. Im considering a lcp 22lr but for fun. I will never trust them again with my life. I will only carry my two most proven weapons now. My shield 40 and my glock 17. I know they will go bang when I need them to. Period end of story for my carry guns. ❤

My dad owns that sr9 now and after replacing the barrel and some springs he never had an issue with it😂

Gun feels cheap. Traded it in and spent a little more money on a canik

@spnfirearms the max 9 slides rusts so easily. The canik feels solid compared to it. Although the max 9 went boom everytime

@@HoodziHockey16 my mc9 failed me at 750 rounds consistently. The rugers do rust and I hate that. Canik is still cheaper and budget. That’s why I prefer smith, Springfield, Glock etc. respect!! Check out the mossberg mc2sc, I think you would love it
