Brother I appreciate the knowledge. You know we go out and get these somewhat expensive pools and throw it up quick as possible trying to get our money's worth and don't take the time think about what to avoid until it's too late. Brother you may have just saved me and my family from a complete tragedy and I thank you for that. And to think it all started over me look to build a pool deck for cheap 😂 God Bless You!!!!

I could drink beer with this guy and listen to him all day. Thank you!
Sounds like a plan to me. 😉
thank you sir i for once have made this mistake and because i follow your videos i now will use cords safely starting NOW.
I'm trying to set up my first pool. I should have researched more before buying, but i didn't & now i'm here.
I don't care, i've already ordered the stuff & my only option is to use a 25 foot, #12 gauge extension cord, plugged into a GFCI adapter. If it burns up the pool pump it does. YOLO! 🤣
🤣
Thank you so much. We are getting a pool. And now I know what we need until we can get a seperate box just for our pool.
Thank you for viewing and commenting. God Bless!
Yesterday I learned to backwash before vacuuming 😎👍
I haven't had to vac any. Running my pump 4 hours on and 4 hours off 24/7 the polasis and the skimmer has been keeping the pool clean.
Amen brother, test the gfci also. Gfci saves lives.
👍
I'm getting me 1 of those Polaris vacuums, gonna order it @ the end of the week off of your link. I been watching your videos on it and made up my mind to purchase 1. I'm sick of the cheap suction 1 on a pole time to upgrade. Thanks for the info, God Bless from Massachusetts. 😉
No more sore arms can't wait !
👍 Thank you much. God Bless.
Did the vacuum work for you well? I was considering the robotic one.
Got my pool pump connected to an outdoor gfci. However during the season I test my gfci every couple weeks just to be safe. Thanks for your safety tips.
Thank you for commenting.
The best break down for me!!! Appreciate you!!!
You're welcome! and thank you much for commenting.
You can also add a GFCI breaker to the breaker box that the outside outlet runs on. It's even better than the GFCI receptacle because a GFCI breaker will protect the entire circuit and not just the outlet.
You can, but the average person is not gonna do that. but keep the comments coming. LOL
I love dropping in on this channel. Hope you had a good day sir ! 😎👍
Come by anytime you feel my friend. 😀
Thanks for the video i just got a semi-inground is so wed this days here in Fl ill buy this for safety thanks again..
Your very welcome and thanks you for commenting. God Bless!
Most pumps have a GFCI on the plug itself. My Intex sand filter does.
True but if someone is running an extension cord it's a good practice to have the cord plugged into a GFCI.
Thank you for your videos I have learned a lot. They are very detailed . I have one question my
Pool is about 10 ft away from the outside Gfci outlet I have a 16 gage extension cord can I place it on the ground or do i need to elevate it off the ground? With all the splashing around my kids so I’m afraid of being electrocuted.
I would disconnect it while swimming.
Thank you 😊
I appreciate this video I’m gonna buy that cord thing, can you make a video showing changing the pool filter I’m not understanding where the plugs goes so the water doesn’t drain out when it’s time to do that.
I would but I have the sand filter now.
ENJOYED THIS
Thank you!
Not sure if I’m commenting too late after you posting this, but what about the GFCI that comes on the cord going to the pool? The test and reset button are on it doesn’t that work as a GFCI when running an extension cord from the house?
It does.
Some cheaper pumps didn't come with them on the cords.
wow! I'm glad I stumbled upon this video!
Hello B. thanks for dropping in. Come back anytime my friend. God Bless!
Which side of the extension cord do I plug the GFCI adapter into? Do I connect it in the house or out by the pool?
In the house.
@@papawsplace thank you!
What type of vacuum are you using, my friend!?!?? Would love to see a video on it, if you haven't already....
I use the Polaris 65 when there is a lot of leaves falling.
Then I got a Pool Blaster and a little Robot to keep thing clean after all the leaves are finished falling.
Look in my pool related play list and there is a video on the Polaris 65.
I've been watching you all summer, but this is my first time commenting. Great videos! They are very informative. I'd like to know the name of the pool cleaner. Thanks!
Thanks for all the views, Mr. Walker. That is a Polaris65 Vacuum. I don't know why it's called a vacuum because it does not suck/vacuum. It works off of the return water. (I have a video on assembling it) It's more like a swiper / catcher. It works really well but I only got 2 seasons out of it before it started winding up in a circle. Once it starts doing that the internal parts have to be replaced and it's just about as cheap to buy a whole new one. But at the same time, we really like it.
Good day sir. My outside outlet is protracted by a grounded outlet that is in the garage. But my pump power is to big for the outside outlet. Can i still use a gfci extension cord on the outside outlet and hook the pump to it?
Not really understanding the question. If your pump power is to much for the outlet then adding extension cord will only make it worse.
@@papawsplace i don’t have a gfci outlet outdoor. Buying the gfci extension cord should do? I was at home depot and the husky gfci cord had a warning on it saying do no connect a gfci to the husky gfci extension cord
If you plugging into a gfci outlet you don't need a gfci extension cord. Just make sure to get an extension cord that sized correct for the length your running from the outlet.
The longer the distance the bigger the cord needs to be.
Hi sir,... My pool pump plug has a GFCI plug... I do have a 25 foot green (I believe 12 gauge) extension cord plugged into the house .. do instill need the adapter? Basically is one GFCI enough?
That GFCI should protect the pump/pool. But the ext. cord will not be under protected for rain and such.
@@papawsplace thank you for your reply!
I am getting a cover for where the cords meet .. seems it was moisture tripping it.
Thank you brother for your knowledge.
Your very welcome C T. Thanks for dropping in.
None of our plugs on the outside of our house are gfci so we have to run our power from inside the house. No way would I use the plugs outside. They’d short out.
This is an option , GFCI Inline with 18" Single Outlet Cord amzn.to/3gsIO3r
You can get a uglys manual and it will have everything you need, page 39 is what he is talking about if you have a 2020 version.
👍
Would you say it would be safe to swim in the pool when the pump is off. To avoid any hazard if there was an electrical fault.
It should be safe even with the pump running. If not, there are pools all over the world putting people in danger.
When you say distance electricity has to travel, are you referring to cord length or actual distance between pump and outlet? We have the outdoor safety outlet but our pump cord is about 2-3yards too short. So we use a very long outdoor specialty extension cord. I don't know the gage.
The Cord length. Electricity is carried through the wires in the cord and the longer the cord the bigger gauge it needs to be. Example: a 10 foot 14 gauge cord may carry the proper amount of electricity to where a 100 foot 14 gauge will drop in voltage / amount of electricity.
I also have other pool related videos you may find helpful. Please Subscribe and Share my videos on your social media to help me grow this channel. Thank you! Tell that wife I may need dance lessons
So we were very fortunate to have somebody give us $1000 pool pump and we don’t have a very big above ground pool but it still needs a pump and the pump that came with it was crap so we were given this amazing pump but the cord that it came with almost looks like a plug that you plug a dryer into now any advice on how we’re supposed to make this work?
First read the tag on the pump to see if it's 110V or 220V Pump. If it's 110V you can go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy a female plug/end that fits that male plug and install it in your electrical outlet box or put the end on an ext. cord. BUT if it's 220v pump you will need a 220V wired outlet to plug it in which is a whole different ball game.
Wonderful! Thanks so much 🎉
You are welcome and thank you for commenting.
Well, if I have an electrician come out and add electric to my outside house, then what do I do with the cord?
You can use a Cord safely as long as it is the proper size and plugged into a GFCI outlet.
Good to know!
I believe there are snap on covers that protect extension cord plug connections from getting rained on... Not sure but if there is you could put a link to it.
I'm not sure, I'll look into that.
Yes, it's a 3 pack. Not sure how good they are but they have good reviews.
I have seen videos of bonding the pool and pump. Have you done this?
I have my pump grounded to the ground but not to the pool. But that's not a bad idea.
excellent video
Thank you much
Hey, where can I get that yellow extension cord at? I tried lowes but they didn't have it
Not sure where that came from. LOL
How long did you have to run the original pool pump for per day? I am getting an upgraded pool pump next weeek but not to sure how long to run the pump the pool came with
I ran mine 24 hours a day, but my water was so dirty I had to clean the filter 3 times a day. I got my pool water clean before hooking up my snadpro 75D and now I have it on a timer running 4 hours on 4 hours off around the clock. Since I got pool clean and all the levels /testing correct all I've had to do is I keep 3 chlorine tablets in the floater and when they melt down to about one tablet I add 2 more and my pool has been staying clean and testing good. I just empty my vacuum bag and skimmer basket about every 3 days.
I have to go about 100 ft and the outlet is not Gfci outlets can I change that to a Gfci?
Ms. Bobbie you can replace your outlet with a GFCI outlet.
How do I replace the hose fitting after cutting to length on my Polaris 65 ?

Hello again! I’m hoping you can answer my questions as I keep hitting a dead end. I have purchased a tankless water heater and I need to find a pool pump that is ideal for an 8 x 2 stock tank above ground pool. Do you have any recommendations? The tankless water heater inlet/outlet are attached to hoses so I have the fittings and I’m ready to go! The only thing missing is a pool pump. The tank holds 700 gallons. Any help with choosing an adequate pump is greatly appreciated!! 🙏🏼 Thank you!
It sounds like your making a DIY Hot Tub. If so I would think any small pump would work ok as long as it's rated for over a 700 gallon pool. The only thing, I would read the manual on the tankless water heater to see what water pressure it requires to operate. I also would put the water heater between the pump and the stock tank so the hot water would not be going through my pump first. Again depending on what you want to spend on the pump I would think any little pump would do the trick but I would get one that's rated for a 1500 gallon pool or above myself.
@@papawsplace thank you!!
I had to visit this video in response to seeing... a TV that was next to the pool... and the cord was plugged into a power strip UNDER the water!
Not sure how that would work out for someone.

@@papawsplace I have an above ground yawned pump that I use for my stock tank pool (8’x2’). I run it about two hours a day as needed. I have it hooked up to a heavy duty exterior extension cord that is plugged into a gfci outlet. Because there is no on:/off switch it’s only plugged in when I need to clean water. I haven’t noticed any issues but please let me know 1. Is there’ a safer/up to code way?, 2. What risk level am I at (I run the pump when no one is in it. I also have a question about high pressure water flow which I will ask next but I’ll get these answers first. Thank you!
@@papawsplace this is an extension from my first response. Money is an issue so is there a safer (not too expensive) way to do my setup? Don’t get me wrong,, safety is way more important than trying to save myself the added expense please know that!
@@stephaniecardenas9531 if it's a heavy duty cord plugged into a gfci outlet and only being used as you say I would think your safe.

What if pool is 100 feet away what extention cord
100' is a long ways. What pump you have?
A vevor 2.0hp
My pump came with 20ft cord and a GFCI..
They all should come that way, but some don't.
Would you mind sharing the name of the pump? I am looking to go this route rather than having someone install a gfci power source near the pool. I currently have a 75 ft (or maybe 100 ft) 12G extension cord.
They're not called plugs they're called receptacles
You have all the rights to call them what you want.
I call them Plugs! 😉
Why don't we discuss the more important part of pools it's called bonding
Well lets discuss it!
I ran it on an extention cord for 20 some years🫨
It works fine, just may be the safest thing to do.
