The BDO is merely a stepping stone. All the up and coming players become members the BDO by joining there home county super league. From then, they can play county darts as well as trying to make it in the big BDO tournaments. If they can cut it in the BDO worlds, the jump ship to the PDC to earn the money that they deserve for there ability. Most of the PDC top 32 have joined in the last 5 years from the BDO, because they knew they were all good enough. Thats the difference between BDO and PDC
And as soon as anyone gets good in the BDO, they move over - Dave Chisnall, Dean Winstanley, etc. The only good established ones who won't are Adams and O'Shea who would prefer to be big fish in a small pond. Even Ted Hankey has now moved over! Won't be long before Stephen Bunting is on the Ally Pally stage I feel. Watching BDO now it is nothing on what we've just viewed from the PDC.

But then again, I also preferred Circus Tavern to Alexandra Palace.
Martin Adams and Barry Hearn have never got on and that's why he would never play in one of his events, but I wish he had swallowed his pride and switch when he was still on top because he beat most top players in the PDC in other events. Even Adrian Lewis go thrashed by Adams when they were both world champs in 2011.
Adams should be counting his blessings the PDC exists, because he couldn't win anything important in the BDO until most of the decent players had joined the PDC. He also swallowed his pride and played in PDC events when it suited him (he played in the Matchplay and World Grand Prix in the early 2000s) and the Grand Slam twice in '15 and '16. PS. Lewis and Adams played a few *exhibitions* in 2011. Adams won the first match after Lewis tried and failed to take out 150 with three bullseyes (it being an exhibition, after all...), Lewis then won the next two matches...

The BDO should change their schedule of the world championships as most people have SKY now at home which means you can watch both. WHAT A COMEDOWN from watching the PDC Championship to the 1st 2 rounds of the BDO, shocking! if they had theirs prior to it it wouldn't be so bad, this year I thought the standard was decent from the 1/4 finals onwards and Scott Waites should give the PDC a go, Olle Croft set this recluse way years ago and it's inbred in the BDO, amateur - pro need to define it.

Money is not a dirty word. It's how people make a living. The lucrative nature of the PDC allows more of its players to turn professional, which allows them to dedicate themselves fully to the game and this ultimately results in higher quality darts. The vast majority of BDO players were either amateur or semi professional and as such were unable to practice as often or compete in as many tournaments as their PDC counterparts. And it showed. Nobody would have had an issue with the BDO after the split if it had had the humility to recognise the PDC as the professional side of the sport, whilst marketing itself as the organisation for up and coming talent. But it didn't do that. It still held on to this comical and deluded mindset whereby because it was around before the PDC that meant that it was the 'true' darts organisation and 'true' world championship. It was like if the English Football League was to pretend that the breakaway Premier League clubs in 1992 no longer existed and that it was still the legitimate professional football league, simply because it was around first. It is also worth mentioning that the National Darts Association of Great Britain existed before the BDO. Yet Olly Croft and his chums had no issue setting up the BDO and taking over the game, usurping the NDAGB in the process. He didn't show any loyalty to the NDAGB when he did that, yet in the 1990s when players broke away from his organisation, all of a sudden he complained about disloyalty. He was a hypocrite.
Leave things the way they are I say. It'd be a massive undertaking for the PDC to sort out as the BDO has a much much larger pool of players. Leave the BDO to look after the amateur side of things. The players at the top end of the BDO are good players. The players at the top end of the PDC are the elite players. Having two world champions isn't ideal but such is life.

This year the BDO "world championship" was held in a backroom of the O2 with about 30 people in attendance, broadcast on some obscure Freeview channel that no one has heard of, contested by amateurs who failed to win a PDC tour card at Q-school, and the winner received a £25 book token!

The only reason the PDC survive is down to the BDO. They've been going for 18 years and have only produced one world champion, enough said. All the others who've won the PDC event have won the BDO title first. Taylor apart the quality between the two is very similar. Chizzy was a BDO finalist, he went to the PDC and hammered Taylor. I heard many say that Barney wasn't a class player but he won the PDC title as soon as he went over. Webster's also done Taylor too but how many PDC regulars have?
At least 20 Lakeside "champions" and runners-up have tried the PDC. TWO of them won the PDC world title (Part and Barney) and one other (Whitlock) has reached the final. Most of the others (Beaton, Burnett, Wallace, Klaasen, Kist, Webster, Fordham, Hankey, Bunting) have had no impact whatsoever, just also rans and cannon fodder for the top players. Some (Walton, Mitchell, O'Shea) couldn't even get through Q-school. As for Barney, he lost almost 75% of his matches against Taylor. They met in 7 PDC major finals. Barney lost 6 of them, including a 7-1 world final loss.

Like it or not the BDO World title is still going and the winner is just as much of a World Champ as the PDC winner. I strangely prefer the BDO World Championship. For me, the Lakeside is the only true World Championship venue and always will be. The Alexandra palace will never have the heart and history the Lakeside has. As for the standard, well I don't really mind. Look at the 2007 final between Martin Adams and Phill Nixon. It wasn't the standard of the Phil Taylor and Raymond Barneveld final of the PDC but it was definitely the same value for entertainment!! I watch and enjoy both codes ...

Erm, you are aware that the Ally Pally was hosting the News of the World Championship years before the BDO world title even existed, let alone moved to the Lakeside? Eric Bristow said his favourite venue was Jollees, which hosted the Embassy for several years before Lakeside.
The BDO was around way before the PDC therefore it will always be the best regardless of how many 'world titles' Phil taylor has won, to me the titles he won in the PDC are null and void! he didn't win them in the original world championship, so they aren't titles he holds! there is no doubting his talent and skill, he is an amazing player. but not all of his titles stand in my eyes!
The BDO only came into being because Olly Croft did exactly the same as the PDC by breaking away from the NDAGB and taking over darts. Olly Croft claimed they "didn't owe darts players a living" when he personally made a good living from darts, with a BDO salary, a Rolls Royce and living rent free in a BDO property. The BDO tried to stop Bristow, Taylor, Lowe, Wilson, Deller, Anderson etc making a living from darts and illegally tried to ban them from playing darts worldwide. You actually think an organisation that behaves in that way has any credibility? As far as I'm concerned, from that day on the BDO lost all claim to being a "world championship". The WDF agrees with me and has now stripped them of that status. The PDC is the heart and soul of darts, with a chairman acting in the interests of the sport, allowing players to make a good living and providing top quality darts for thousands of fans and millions of viewers. PS. The News of the World Championship was around decades before the BDO even existed so even that argument doesn't hold water.

It is also worth mentioning that the National Darts Association of Great Britain existed before the BDO. Yet Olly Croft and his chums had no issue setting up the BDO and taking over the game, usurping the NDAGB in the process.
He didn't show any loyalty to the NDAGB when he did that, yet in the 1990s when players broke away from his organisation, all of a sudden he complained about disloyalty.

Leave things the way they are I say. It'd be a massive undertaking for the PDC to sort out as the BDO has a much much larger pool of players. Leave the BDO to look after the amateur side of things. The players at the top end of the BDO are good players. The players at the top end of the PDC are the elite players. Having two world champions isn't ideal but such is life.

The only reason the PDC survive is down to the BDO. They've been going for 18 years and have only produced one world champion, enough said. All the others who've won the PDC event have won the BDO title first. Taylor apart the quality between the two is very similar. Chizzy was a BDO finalist, he went to the PDC and hammered Taylor. I heard many say that Barney wasn't a class player but he won the PDC title as soon as he went over. Webster's also done Taylor too but how many PDC regulars have?

At least 20 Lakeside "champions" and runners-up have tried the PDC. TWO of them won the PDC world title (Part and Barney) and one other (Whitlock) has reached the final. Most of the others (Beaton, Burnett, Wallace, Klaasen, Kist, Webster, Fordham, Hankey, Bunting) have had no impact whatsoever, just also rans and cannon fodder for the top players. Some (Walton, Mitchell, O'Shea) couldn't even get through Q-school.
As for Barney, he lost almost 75% of his matches against Taylor. They met in 7 PDC major finals. Barney lost 6 of them, including a 7-1 world final loss.
@vinnyvasquez What's even more pathetic is the sheer desperation of Hearn trying to buy out the BDO because he wants all the glory for the PDC championship. Like it or not the BDO World title is still going and the winner is just as much of a World Champ as the PDC winner. As for quality, if the Beeb didn't get the viewers they wouldn't show it, simple as, they know they are on to a winner as every year the BDO title attracts more viewers than the PDC ever will.

scottie waites, adams and O'shea all need to grow a pair! they are steadily going stale and in decline while the strength and prestige of the PDC will help to invigorate them and tgeir game. There's no shame of moving over i.e king, Barney, hankey and numerous others have all seen the light.
The way Adams has performed this year he should just retire! He was embarrassing against the 18 year old kid who he should have destroyed. Any PDC player worth his salt would have bullied a young pretender and sent him crying to his mummy. Adams, just as he did against an unknown at the Masters, crumbled in round 1 and hit only 20% of his doubles. At that rate the PDC wouldn't take him! O'Shea should move over though, he doesn't win titles anyway but might make more money in PDC!
@vinnyvasquez The fact that the BDO Championship is still surviving and stronger than ever really gets under the PDC's nose and that why Hearn wanted to try and buy them out. He cannot stomach the thought that a rival world championship gets more viewers and greater coverage than his own. I strangely prefer the BDO World Championship. For me, the Lakeside is the only true World Championship venue and always will be. The Alexandra palace will never have the heart and history the Lakeside has. As for the standard, well I don't really mind. Look at the 2007 final between Martin Adams and Phill Nixon. It wasn't the standard of the Phil Taylor and Raymond Barneveld final of the PDC but it was definitely the same value for entertainment!! I watch and enjoy both codes ...

The BDO was around way before the PDC therefore it will always be the best regardless of how many 'world titles' Phil taylor has won, to me the titles he won in the PDC are null and void! he didn't win them in the original world championship, so they aren't titles he holds! there is no doubting his talent and skill, he is an amazing player. but not all of his titles stand in my eyes!

Olly Croft claimed they "didn't owe darts players a living" when he personally made a good living from darts, with a BDO salary, a Rolls Royce and living rent free in a BDO property.
The BDO tried to stop Bristow, Taylor, Lowe, Wilson, Deller, Anderson etc making a living from darts and illegally tried to ban them from playing darts worldwide.

As far as I'm concerned, from that day on the BDO lost all claim to being a "world championship". The WDF agrees with me and has now stripped them of that status. The PDC is the heart and soul of darts, with a chairman acting in the interests of the sport, allowing players to make a good living and providing top quality darts for thousands of fans and millions of viewers.
PS. The News of the World Championship was around decades before the BDO even existed so even that argument doesn't hold water.
