Man coming here after his 50. Cal exploded is really upsetting to see. Its like "how could that happen to him?"
Super super simple. Old shitty mystery round with too much pressure. Also the largest available caliber, worst case senario but it can be avoided by shooting new production ammo
It could have happened to anyone. Bad loads in old ammo has been a problem for awhile. I would like to think that I would buy new production ammunition but not being rich i will probably buy surplus ammunition if its a good enough deal. I will reload it though.

@@michaelprimato7066 they all have that porting on the barrels, some barrel lengths have a break on them, but the porting is pretty close to the same size
Look at demo’s if doesn’t have one
Scott. My .500 did the same thing with those rounds, firing DA. Hard primers were the cause, when combined with the shorter hammer stroke. They worked fine firing it SA, as the hammer locks in place farther back, allowing it to have more momentum, striking the primer harder.
Kind of the opposite issue that causes SKS runaways, when using civilian ammo, compared to surplus. Surplus has a harder primer, and is harder to set off, compared to civilian 7.62 x 39. Closing the action, the milsurp will push against the firing pin harder, and not go off, where the drag on the firing pin can cause it to set off rounds with a softer primer.
You may also just need to clean your .500, and may have carbon buildup around the firing pin. That can cause light strikes, in DA.

Scott, you need a longer firing pin. I had the same problem with my 500. I had an early serial number. When they switched from mag pistol primers to mag rifle primers to prevent hot rounds from blowing through, existing models started having light primer strikes. They sell a 1mm oversized firing pin. Get the upgrade.

I was really wondering if these things existed, they are usually very weak shells in other calibers and I was wondering how powerful it would be in a 500 magnum ... although it would be great to see thicker BB shells.

I've been loading my own for 454 Casull for years. With #11 shot, it's the best snake medicine money can buy. Performs as well as any .410 revolver.
Well you should be able to put those .410s in your 454 with literally no issue.

Those shot shells for the 500 are great . I have shot shells for my 45 cal 1911 . My S&W Governor shoots 410 shells also . That is one of the main reasons I bought it . Thank you for the video Scott it was great 👍
Something you dont expect to hear someone say about a 500 mag. "It blew right through that cardboard"
It really didnt look very powerful so hopefully if it's a defense situation just seeing the 500 will defuse the situation because idk about those shells
if someone tries to smash your window or open your door in traffic, rest assured that 500 shotshell up and down the face will sit someone down permanently 👍

Make sure your strain screw on the front of the gun's frame is tight. They can back out and cause light primer strikes.

This handgun round makes an excellent demonstration of shotshell pattern entropy. Every time your range to the target doubles, you only get about one-fourth as many pellets on target. These tiny #4 and #9 shot sizes afford you much higher pellet counts, which increases the expected hit count on small targets, at the expense of drastically reduced terminal ballistic performance. As a general rule, the smaller the shot size, the smaller the critter you should be shooting with it.

You probably know this, but you should stop on one of the mis-fired ctgs and check the primers. Strike, or weak strike? Then check primer seating, looking for too-deep seated primers. Results would indicate gun or ammo. Odds are, it's the ammo.

LOL the misfires reminded me of when we were kids we had those plastic cap gun that the little round cylinder style capsule go in and you would fire them over and over just to finally get one to go off
Standard S&W failure, recoil backs the hammer spring screw out, causing light primer strikes. The 629 in 44 mag it's a daily occurance.
