his name is from norse mythology, one of the two famous sons of thor named "Magni" and "Modi", translating to "strength" and "courage", iirc.
the runes are the runic version of þ, "thorn" or "thurs", and is pronounced like the english "th". It has been dropped from virtually every language it was part of, but it's still being used in icelandic.
