    I admire how AG has revolutionized and upscaled expectations on what makes a high quality hoodie, but I have to say I much prefer the raglan cut of the F&T - IMO the raglan stitching flatters the athletic torso so much more. Thanks for the review, Nick…F&T added to my fall shopping list.

  • @Camronlaz
    @Camronlaz Před 3 lety +1

    Another important note about them to consider is the styling beyond the fit. I chose the more traditional fit of the F&T but liked that it had a non-traditional styling with the raglan sleeves. It has sort of an instant classic feel for a piece of clothing, like you can have this hoodie for 15 years and it will always look good.

    I just got the American Giant in iron grey. I like how big the hood is and the tight feel around the forearms and waist, kind of Assassins Creed. The tight feel is good under my motorcycle jacket, thick but it doesn't feel too bulky or bunch up. I would have liked the warranty of the other brand though. I was initially looking for brands made in the U.S. to spend my stimulus on so I went with the AG hoodie, Red Wing Iron Rangers (thanks to the Rose Anvil cut in half video) and a Benchmade Griptilian pocket knife and I have been thoroughly impressed with all of it. Honestly I wasn't expecting the hoodie to be as nice as it was.

    I lift/work out and I generally love when companies do athletic cuts. It's always a shame to have tightness in the chest/shoulders but then have a billowy looking midsection. In this case, though, that Flint & Tinder hoodie looks great. Maybe it's mostly because of the color, but I think it looks really good on you. Not that the American Giant one doesn't, but I guess they nailed that "classic" fit. Looks classic indeed. Love that warranty too, companies that back their products like that usually get my money. And I pretty much never need to utilize the warranty anyway, so good for them.

    Both are worth purchasing in my opinion if you can. I spent 2 weeks trying to decide which to get and ended up saying fuck it and got both. My Flint & Tinder basically lives underneath my Bravestar Ironside jacket, I found it was much better suited for layering than the American Giant due to the torso length difference. The American Giant is my go to when I don't feel like wearing 10 pounds of jacket lol.

    I have noticed that most designs now have longer torso and looser waist band. It's very hard to find a classic cut hoodie. I have resorted to buying vintage hanes and fruit of the loom from the 70's.

    Regarding American Giant's warranty: I'm an N of 1 so take this with a grain of salt, but I bought their Ultimate Hoodie five or six years ago. The cuff started to fray and even had a hole in it -- which is definitely NOT a manufacturing defect. But I gave them a call and asked about their warranty even though I had the frayed cuffs and they were so kind and said not to worry about it. -- they asked me what color and size I wanted for a free replacement and suggested that I either donate my frayed hoodie or to enjoy it and keep it. They just stressed to not throw it in the garbage. Your miles may vary on that but that's my personal experience. Full disclosure: I was a repeat customer (I also own their now-discontinued Mechanic's Jacket) and so maybe they knew that because I was in their system and were more inclined to be nice to me. But that situation made me a lifetime customer. Also, I donated the older hoodie to the Red Cross. And now I've bought two of their lightweight hoodies which are also incredible for very different reasons.

    I got the original ten year hoodie as a kickstarter backer in 2013, its two years away from making it the whole ten. Now the fabric is a little different from what flint and tinder are using now (it was 100% cotton) and the new cut seems a little tighter (looking at the flat measurements), the old one had a double raglan sleeves. But as long as the seems and material is comparably tough on the newer model, I don't doubt it can go 10 years too. I'd try the american giant moto jacket, but seems I'm the wrong shape for it (barrel shaped lol).

    I have owned 4 AG Hoodies. I love the weight and feel. The big hood is amazing. However, every one blew out in the cuffs within a year. The main body of the hoodie wears very very well, but the cuffs are the weakest point. Two of my hoodies also had zippers fall off- but AG replaced with no hassle. I might go with the flint and tinder this time just out of AG cuff frustration.
