I have traction alopecia because I continued to get micro braids in my hair and my edges fell out. They grew back but I continue to get more micro braids. My sister warned me to stop but I didn’t listen. When your follicles continue to fall out, after a few times, they will be permanently damaged. That’s what traction alopecia is. I have learned to embrace the hair I have left on my head. The judge is correct in her ruling.

As a sew-in connoisseur, I'm surprised the stylists didn't say what I think it is. In that video, as she's taking the braid out you can see the bald spot was already present (from continuous tension) before she made it to the beginning of the braid. What it looks like TO ME is that she cut her hair while trying to cut the thread from the install out. The hair is coming out as she nears the start of the braid, not from the root. The thread is black, your hair is also dark and it can be tricky to take down. I've done this so many times as a teen.

@MiaD2003 It's actually about not giving your hair a break in between. When you take down braids and then go right back to braids, and keep repeating this, your hair will break. It's why you see so many with the outer perimeter missing or thinning and many folks who have locks have the edges lined up at a barber shop. Also have to consider box braids and locs, all that extra hair is heavy and is weighing down, adding tension to your hairline.

You're not going to get a bald spot from one service. The plaintiff has been getting sew ins for awhile, hence the traction alopecia. That's a result of repetition.

Man! The tension between these litigants is raw. It may be something else going on or some past history with this crew.
    P. S. My first comments were made as the women were walking into the courtroom. As I suspected, these women had a history. Without the testimony of a trichologist, my guess is that the plaintiff has abused her hair with tight braids and bad weave treatments.

Having your hair ripped out can cause permanent hair damage if not treated. Depends how. Experience something similar which was an accident over 15 yrs ago and my hair never grew back in that spot (wasn't aware of hair maintenance at the time). Second if my hair too tight I'm taking it out not wearing for a month and a half to cause more damage. And lastly your hair sheds everyday so a month and a half plus tension and your not moisturizing or taking care of your hair will cause that or you can accidentally cut your hair looking for the string to take it down either way if your suing not leaving an uncomfortable hairstyle in for looks versus hair safety or personal comfort

Ok,this has happened to me before. I got a curly hair sew in w a little of my natural hair out in the front to blend with the weave. After getting braided down(prepped) for the sew in I noticed that the braids were tight but I figured “Hey,it’s been a while since I’ve had a sew in I’ll eventually get used to it”. When the weave started to get sewn on(w the thread) OMGGGG brutal. The thread was making it tighter & tighter. I did inform the stylist & she said that she wouldn’t pull on the thread as tight. After she was finished,my hair was so pretty that once again I said to myself “I’ll just deal with it”. I did have a slight headache after. When i got home,I was out of it…I could not sleep, function…nothing. The pain in the temple part of my head was rocking! I tried sitting ice on my head(lol yea I know) taking a cold shower etc NOTHING WORKED!
I went 4 days like that. I finally went back & she cut some of the thread to try to “loosen” up the tension. It did(in that moment) feel a little better,so I left & went 4 more days until I couldn’t take it anymore. Took my $600 sew in out to find what was starting to form in the temple of my head…a bald spot!!😳 I was furious!
It’s tricky because I don’t think it was the stylist fault. I just think maybe she’s heavy handed or my scalp just is maybe too sensitive for that type of style. Because you do want a sew in to look realistic & last which means small braids & a tight & secure foundation. Whew just thinking about that entire situation makes my head hurt.

The weaves are causing the hair to fall out whether it is tight or not. Also, perms, color, etc is causing hair to fall out. It is bad for you. These things also cause thyroid issues and cancer.

Sometimes you can be allergic to the hair that is used considering all of the chemicals that is in it. Also, if the plaintiff had a history of balding and the defendant knew this, I wouldn't have touched her hair. Sounds like she was not qualified for a sew in.
