    Hello Anne :) I don't know if you still check comments, but unlike many people here, I don't study any maths or physics: I study Art!
    On my subject 'Image and Sound' we had to draw a sound wave; it's the only occasion on my whole course where we have any contact with physics, and this video has really made it all easier to understand.
    Thank you so much!

    @zacharydunn6577 Před 5 lety +1

    Two questions. First, that looks at the start like you are writing directly on the typical black lab bench surface. What are you writing with? Second, in the latter part of the video you go over drawing particular waves of certain wavelength, frequency, etc. What class is this for? I've obviously learned about and dealt with waves in many different classes as a high school physics and chemistry teacher myself, but don't recall ever needing to use that particular skill, although what you're doing makes logical sense and wouldn't be that hard to extend to with this material.

    • @AnneSchmidt
      @AnneSchmidt  Před 5 lety +4

      I use liquid chalk window markers. They wipe right off the black lab tables (baby wipes work best to remove the marker). Second, graphing transverse waves is something I have my chem students do after we finish emission spectrums for elements. We draw six different waves and then "classify them" as ROYGBV. I just want them to correlate short wavelength with violet visible light and long wavelength with red visible light (I make the sure the violet is more frequent so as to correlate to energy). I like to do graphing whenever possible to build that skill.

    Wat if the wavelength is an odd number?

    • @AnneSchmidt
      @AnneSchmidt  Před 4 lety

      If the wavelength was 5 then the first crest would be at 1.25, the wave would cross the resting point at 2.5, the trough would be at 3.75 and then the wave would cross again the resting point at 5. This would give a wavelength of 5. Best wishes!

  • @starboii568
    @starboii568 Před 4 lety +2

    But plz do tell how, How did you know where to place the crest like you put it at 2 that part always confuses me.

    • @AnneSchmidt
      @AnneSchmidt  Před 4 lety +2

      The crest is at the 1/4 wavelength and trough is at the 3/4 wavelength. So if the wavelength was 8 then the crest is at 2, crosses the resting point at 4 and trough at 6.
