- Singapore only gained independence in 1965, but it is already the most expensive city in the world. As the city-state's wealth grew, its landscape also evolved rapidly - from trishaws and swamps to super cars and futuristic high-rises. But hidden amidst today’s extravagance is one tiny hamlet that refuses to catch up - Kampong Lorong Buangkok.
In 1956, a traditional medicine seller - Sng Teow Koon - bought the land that would become the village of Kampong Lorong Buangkok. In the 1960s, about 40 families lived in the kampong. As Singapore became more affluent, the number of residents steadily declined. Today, only 13 houses remain in Buangkok, and the village is the last of its kind.
Coconuts Singapore's Editor Hidayah Salamat and Coconuts TV decided to visited Buangkok to see the last Singaporean village before it disappears.

Living in Kampong (rural life) is more beautiful to me. Please appreciate the local people's preference. Happiness cannot be measured by the presence of tall buildings only.
I'm so glad singaporean can feel how the feel living in kampong. Your kampong is so similar like kampong in Indonesia. please keep your last kampong, because kampong is our identity as south east asia people. mari balek ke kampong
This kampong amidst Singapore's soulless concrete jungle is a gem at the brink of imminent extinction. This spot is probably the best spot in Singapore where one can see and feel the harmony and peace between Chinese, Malay, Hindu people. It is a small village with a big heart. It must be protected by the Ministry of Culture and recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for its historical significance.
Hope our last kampong to retain as long as possible, its like a gem to our country
so sad....no village no happiness...I'm so sympathy to all Malays in Singapore...
This is sad ....come to Malaysia to experience kg life ....
But Singapore kampung is rare so its more precious to protect its history, Malaysia can see kampung all over the place like its not surprising but still appreciate history of village
It looks tranquil and relaxing. I think the villiage mentioned in Joseph Conrad`s book End of the Tether might have been inspired in part by a villiage in Singapore. Sad to hear Kampong Buangkok may now be in line for demolition and development. Singapore needs more land but ... Still, it seems like an amazing place.
wow so great to see this place.miss home
It's beautiful.
It's a shame that this is not respected by the Govt of SG, leave them be. Nothing beats life in a Kampong, no high rise mod will take the place of a sense of freedom!
Cool video. Amazing Singapore. If only the Government allows the preservation of this small historical kampung & making Singapore truly unique.
Pls remain there !! I wanna visit the kampong after my o levels :)) hehe
i'm so lucky live in Indonesia, because there is kampung
A very informative video does look amazing and great that you can still appreciate the old Singapore, I agree it should be protected
First thought that came into my mind was: Sarong lifters? Perverted chee ko pek village?

I would suggest the govt preserve the area .. maybe rebuild the set up of the kampong as a heritage of culture ...everything else has been ripped n modernised. yes it may become a tourist attraction .
