Good video John, good of you to share this info on YT, I know we discussed your experience with camera brands and some of your experience over the years, hopefully some of the younger folks will come to your channel for facts and history in the camera field.

Hi John, I hope your cataract sugery recovery goes well. I had both eyes done last year using the Vivity IOL (Alcon) toric lenses. Huge improvement in color and accuity from 18" and greater, my prounouced assitgmatism is gone. I only need inexpensive "cheaters" from Costco for close up work and reading. I really enjoyed your perspective on the R1 churn on the internet.

Glad you are enjoying the gfx! I am really looking forward to the release of the 100sII as I should get a day with it for training 😅 one day I will be able to afford digital medium format! As you say, you just can't beat those raw files and it has a nice selection of lenses available.
I just got a g617, Im kind of boggled I could get one in such good conition; the film counter is at 1 (in tens of rolls), I would like to hear about both your experiences with panoramic work/cameras if you have the time and inclination!
Thanks for the video, hope you heal up fast!

You're so right about the old way of marketing compared to the new digital world and the associated costs. Magazine ads, radio ads, tv ads, billboards... were so much more expensive when they were the only vehicles available for product awareness. Knowledge however is the biggest issue with digital mediums. No longer are you getting information from industry professionals and experienced salespeople, you're getting information from anyone with a desire to self-promote and make a quick buck. This is one of the reasons Google factors in authorship in how they index content, content that is attributed to an authority is given more weight. Unfortunately that is highly depend on the subject such as medical and other credentialed professionals.

Ya Mozman, remember back in the day you get a copy of Nat Geo mon and dad would have sub for and you look at the back cover and see an ad from Canon with a huge white tele lens and drool over it. Huge money for that ad, and remember Hachett Publications they owned every kind of magazines for the guys, cars , bikes cameras etc. You would look forward to the new issue every month. Now we got a hand full of snappy shooters reviewing cameras and giving impressions on cameras they have had for an hour. Now we want reviews like now! For me to shoot those guitars damn it took hours and the right tools plus the post production etc. Wheres the skill from these so called influencers shit they can't even use a hand held light meter let alone know what it does.

@@Photojouralist123 My Dad had a huge library of Nat Geo and Life magazines. I do remember getting those in the mail as well as Time and others. I also remember Time Life books and Columbia House lol. I must have signed up 3 times for all those free albums. 🤣

FWIW, I think the video you referenced was useful to provide perspective on how the game works to consumers who were unaware of how the whole review/embargo, etc., system works. At the same time, I appreciate your perspective on the situation too. Thanks for that. It is useful for us all to remember that marketing is marketing. Caveat emptor, etc., and so on...
Intrigued by the possibilities of what Mr. Woo has up his sleeve. :)

I keep seeing videos about this and it's astounding that people don't understand advertising. These companies are using advertising dollars to fund these events and to equip influencers with advance copies and to pay for their travel expenses. Bottom line, advertising dollars need to show ROI. No company is going to use their ad dollars for negative content. If you don't play, they wont pay.

You said it and that is the problem. The person making a living from You Tube clicks has a problem. I agree 100% with what Robin Wong said on his blogspot. That is simply marketing and shocked this full time You Tube does not know it made a video to get all attention when the S9 are popping out which he missed. Now everybody talks about his video. This is You Tube. Good you said that during the magazine days it was the same. Seem that this person has no training on marketing or communication business.
Another thing I enjoyed your videos with Mr. Who about older cameras.
Hope everything went well with your surgery.

Love your videos and interviews with Mr Woo!
What would be very interesting is a four-way panel discussion / interview with (1) a film era camera or lens designer (2) Mr Woo (3) a repairer, and (4) you!
    I have never seen that
combination of experts. I am hoping you or Mr Woo might know a designer?!
