I've only used the Oak Lump once. I usually go with the Hickory. I did do the CharLogs once. I assume that is also Oak. The last time I went I actually got the Fogo lump. I'm going to go with Jealous Devil at one point as well. I've used B&B's briquettes a couple times as well. I might go back to the oak next time if I don't get the JD

We will see if B&B will continue with their high quality now that Duraflame has purchased them. That really bothers me. I have been a B&B advocate for a long time. I tell everyone that grills and smokes to use their products and they have all agreed with me on the quality. Thanks for a great comparison!

How many lbs of charcoal will this grill take?

I think a practical amount would be 8 lbs. There is room to dump a whole lot more. It could be difficult controlling the temp if you put in too much.

I really like the methodical approach you take.
Any notes on ash production between the various charcoals? I had a 24 hour cook in my WSM where the limiting factor became the ash buildup in the bottom of the cooker. Granted, I was using Expert Grill briquettes which are probably comparable to Embers.
    Keep it up!

Thanks for the comment. On testing three pounds burned I have B&B Briquettes @ .4 lbs Ashes and unburned ,Royal Oak All Natural Hardwood Briquettes @ .5, Kingsford Original @ .8, Embers @ 1.1 . My data is limited but Embers was by far the highest ash producer that I have tested.

Y’all must’ve never heard about coconut charcoal, it’s the hottest, lasts the longest, no trees are cut in the making, and produces the least ash
