Great video! Gonna be kind of a nerd here, but a little misconception about Dilla's production is that he didn't use quantization in order to achieve his signature drum sound, when in reality he DID USE quantization, but in a different and creative way, something that no one ever did before him. So yeah, he was a genius innovator, but not because he decided to add random sloppiness on his drums, quite on the contrary, he was a master at achieving controlled loosenes, it was a very deliberate, meticulous and calculated process. The guy basically had his own way of perceiving time feel on music. If you are interested, check the book Dilla Time by Dan Charnas, he explains what Dilla did in a lot more detail.
I think it's amazing that he made his last album 🍩 donuts in a hospital bed using nothing but his Boss sp-303 sampler, a portable turntable and 45's..RIP Dilla 🔥
Can't forget the swollen hands
Thats been debunked that he made it a year before after getting out of the hospital n then when it got bad he put out yhe album 3 days before he passed n he made the beats on his laptop
He didn't. He made it using Pro Tools and it wasn't done in the hospital.
Yeah, it's a nice story, isn't it?
salute to you for doing this review! Dilla is the GOAT!
It’s J Dilla Not Dj Dilla 😂😂😂😂 10:54
great reaction! RIP Dilla! still bumpin his beats till this day
America needs to see this..! Metal Biker Dude representing hiphop this is beautiful.
Bikers listen to Dilla. Impact heavy !!! 🥁 💥
This is a dope reaction
he made the majority of these in the days with no wi fi no podcast miss these days good video its cool you showed appreciation for different genre im 47 from ny ive watched people shit on this art n style i still use my mpcs its my instrument 2023 mpc live mostly my sp404sx and playing different instruments records into it
Whats crazy is if you listen to JD's old beat tapes, imo at least, a lot of his unreleased stuff us better
I run into a bunch of these reaction channels on youtube. 99 percent of them are useless yours isn't. Very insightful
This is so crazy..
Was driving home today listening to ‘Untitled Fantastic’ by Slum village just thinking -
“I wonder how much Dilla got to use his new equipment”
Rest In Peace & Greatness to one of the more elite producers.
Really dope video
so cool to see how dilla touched so many different walks of life. dude was a genius. i found out about him in 08 and have championed him as the greatest since.
Great video rip J Dilla 🕊️🕊️
Don't disrespect the "dorks"😂😂😂
At least they have something to show for it. Can't wait to get me an MPC no matter what version it is.
Great video
what version are you looking to get....the 1000 can do just about all with some japanese software [JJOS] which is very easy to obtain and also learn...however i feel like you should look into the 2500....My opinion its a midway point of the 1000 and 3000...in numbers however it came out after all of them....then the 4000, then 5000....everything else is pretty much computer n midi based....the novelty MPC500 was pretty cool too but so hard at sequencing (alot of math involved)....either way you go, i say at learn the analog versions first to appreciate the whole cut n paste versions that it is today. Renaissance, studio, etc etc.....
@@cheif80 so I should start with the 1000 you're saying
@creative_soul-recolo it's a cheaper option..altho the mpc one or [live I & II] are newer and around the same price (used) and easier to compose with. do ur research with a tutorial. There's sooo many on here that deep dive into it
It's J Dilla my friend. J is for James. 👍🏾
J is for Jay. Dilla is for Dee.
Jay Dee is for James Dewitt Yancey.
J.D.-Jay Dee-J Dilla-Dilla

I love how many different people are being exposed to DIlla these days. Makes me very happy as he's been part of and improved my life for decades. His music was magical and he will live on forever.
Check out Slum Village Fantastic Vol 2. Album and J Dilla’s Welcome to Detroit. Immaculate production
Awesome reaction its amazing how many people Dilla has inspired he was phenomenal at making authentic music
All the drums in Def Leppards Pyromania and the next album the one the rocked them into mainstream popularity for a few year. So before Rick Allen lost his arms producer Mutt Lang was pushing for drum sounds found on pop albums. Wild
I thought dilla made the donuts tracks on the sp303 though because he was on his deathbed
RIP DILLA 🕊🕊🕊✊🐐👑
i found your channel today great review
DJ Dilla is such a dope name, even tho its not his name. Someone who's a dj needs to have that name as a tribute to Jay. 😂
Hi. I just found your channel and I like your reactions. I saw you do a couple for stevie ray Vaughan. I would love to see you do Riveria paradise
Dilla is my hip hop hero. E=mc2 is god like

u wrote an essay on dilla in high school not because i had to but because i wanted to.
Can you do a series where u highlight a song or artist that u like and discuss why? Or do like ur top 5 fav artists or songs and discuss why. Can maybe make it a bi-weekly or monthly series?
I have something coming soon. Stay tuned. I'll make an announcement on CZcams as well as Patreon ;-)
