This was very helpful. I had a house fire and my insurance required wired battery back up detectors. I had trouble at first then realized I was putting the battery in wrong. Tried again and went in easily.
Amazing tutorial I just wish it worked for me 💀, had some hail damage at our hotel and some water leaked through the smoke detector receptacle and set it off. Getting soaking wet in my work clothes with a fire alarm blaring in my ears is not what I had planned for today and you’d think getting the batteries out was rocket science. I pushed and pulled every which way on that little tab almost to the point of snapping it probably. Clearly I’m an idiot or there’s something wrong with my plastic tab.
Do I have to press the test button after battery change cause it seems for others and even for me and my family at one point that simply just putting a new battery in and not pressing the test button seems to do the trick easily and theres no chirp afterwards. Plus ive seen other videos say the same thing that a quick battery swap can sometimes work
If it is hard wired in it can be communicating with other defectors. It will still need a battery for power out situations, but it seems to me they all chirp to alert you one is bad. I recall mine also have wires
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage If only one is chirping and you replace that particular battery, should it automatically stop chirping or do you have to press the button to reset it?
That’s a very good question. I believe it is only to communicate to the other smoke alarms, and also In case the fire were to take out the electrical system you still need the smoke alarm to function without the power
They will also chirp of nearby ones have a bad battery as they communicate to eachother. It’s a safety thing. Check the other ones or also, Is the battery in backwards?
I watched several other videos before finding this one that clearly showed how to make sure negative and positive ends were in correctly! Thank you!
Thank you!!! I was almost crying because I couldnt figure out how to get the battery out!! You are a lifesaver
Thanks for this one Danny.
That beep is the most annoying noise ever. Lol

How in the holy hell does yours just slide right in... Getting mine in is a battle....
Same! Can’t get mine in at all, almost broke the holster out of frustration. Won’t slide in at all.
IT DOES NOT GO IN SMOOTHLY IF THE CONNECTIONS OF THE BATTERY ARE IN WRONG SPOT (remerved) GOES IN SMOOTHLY IF CORRECT, BY DESIGN VIOLA!!!!
Thanks for making it quick and easy! 😊
Thank you
thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank
Thank you I could not get the plastic cover off. It's the simple thing in life that drive you crazy. 😂
Very simply?

It may depend on how long it’s been chirping or dead. It is always good to test it. I want to say mine needed to communicate with the other ones
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage
Ok so it's optional then?
Once you remove the old battery is it suppose to chirp even if there’s no battery in the compartment?
If it is hard wired in it can be communicating with other defectors. It will still need a battery for power out situations, but it seems to me they all chirp to alert you one is bad. I recall mine also have wires

The Irony of this is mine just went off while watching this. Off to get some 9v batteries.
😅😅😅
LOL
In my particular case, I had to buy a new smoke detector. It was only good for 7 years per the expiration date inside.
A lot of new ones communicate with each other and have different codes to follow
How come the smoke alarm need battery meanwhile it connected to the power which 3 wires (black, white and red)attached to it?
That’s a very good question. I believe it is only to communicate to the other smoke alarms, and also In case the fire were to take out the electrical system you still need the smoke alarm to function without the power
How do you actually reset this thing so it stops beeping or is it supposed to stop beeping once you replace the battery
The new battery and/or then testing it by pushing the button. It will sound.
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage thank you
My latch won’t stay shut ? Do I need to buy a new one ?
I’d say don’t chance it on a smoke detector
I did this and it’s still chirping. 😩😩😩

as a girl in college who has 10' ceilings, thank you
Ditto!!
I'm not sure how mine was put in when I took it out? Are they all placed in the same way as this one with the + and-?
Look closely for an indicator + or - on the unit
Yay I won't wake up at 4am again
I actually followed these steps. Unfortunately, the detector continues to chirp.
did u fix it??
@@lanuarii Yes. Thank you.
How did you fix it ? Cause mine continues to chirp too
@@miss_Peace I had to readjust the battery.
It still chirps after I installed a new battery.
Check other detectors in the house. They often are communicating with other ones that are dead
Sharing to all my blk friends haha
