I wish Phoenix would in his "real" life keep a bit of that stringent diet he used for the original Joker to retain that more thin look, but dieting on a healthier scale than the crash diet I heard he used for that "sickly" look. Also retaining the longer hair.

Not sure why they felt they had to recast the role -- Margot Robbie's portrayal of Harley was so perfect and iconic.
that's the thing, the role isn't recast, the joker movie is its own sepparate thing from the DCU, where Margot is Harley. The Joker 1 and this one aren't even canon to the DCU.
DC notoriously has like 4 versions of each character going on at the same time -- one of the things that sets it apart from marvel. It's not a recast it's a reimagination
