Yachiru and Kenpachi backstory is one the best things in Bleach
I always liked how Kubo presented his characters in fights. He explained that matches outcomes depend on abilities and not just a straightforward power levels that you find in many shonen. He also considered situations like Ichigo surprising Kenpachi with the energy surge, although that one’s obvious at the time we see it. Can’t elaborate further without spoiling.
The interesting thing this that Kubo's fors shadowing is always subtle.
Try to remember the reason why kenpachi gave her the name yachiru, it will have a purpose later on

I completely forget some of the absolute stellar writing Bleach had in the early and mid-points of the series. The Rukia connections with the Shiba clan are sort of weirdly amazing thinking back on it.

Last I heard you beat someone when one stays standing and the other falls. In this case both crumbled on the ground defeated, so it was obviously a tie. But I will argue, being a Bleach fan since 2009, that Kenpachi would have easily survived those wounds, whereas Ichigo would have died if it wasn't for Yoruichi patching him up.

I know where your coming from but take into consideration out of the two of them who can use their spiritual pressure to stop themselves from dying? Kenny's sword broke from that last clash, so Zangetsu went thru Kenny's blade then thru Kenny and he can't just get a new one like Go-Ichi can since he can't hear his zanpakuto. Yachiru calling for Unohana personally to heal Kenny is a not so subtle hint that he was bout to die. So last i heard when someone admits defeat in a duel, we call that an L but since they were both about to die I'd say the judges would call it a draw. Anyone who's seen or read TYBW knows both of these fighters are "special" don't get me wrong i love both of them but kenny is only a soul reaper in the end

The reason Kenpachi gives Ichigo the win is because Ichigo broke Kenpachi's sword. Ichigo's resolve (his blade) was stronger.
Now let your imagination go free and just imagine: how powerfull Zaraki would become if he learned the name of his Zanpaktou...
