After years of your projects as examples, I now have some friends who distinctly know to save greeble-worthy bits and pieces for me to make molds.
Those are good friends to have!
Another great build Bill. I love kit bashing to make props. Some of my first movie prop jobs where done just like that. Ah the good old days.
Hey hey thanks old buddy! =D
It's always a pleasure to see you and film riot still collaborating after all these years. CZcams might ignore the film scene and omit it as an actual category, but you guys keep that short film/ indy spirit alive!
It's a fun gang to be a part of! =)
So, I did a little digging, and that gun you used for the base is part of an Augmented Reality gaming system called AR Gun Var Park. The part that flips up in the back is to hold your phone, and the QR Code most likely pairs the gun to an app that was designed to make use of it. It's made by a Russian company, I believe.
oops just saw your post. Sorry for the duplicate information
this was an overall informative video but learning about how goodwill price tags are split to make them hard to transfer BLEW MY MIND. Makes so much sense
It never ceases to amaze me what you do with old, plastic toys! WOW!
Thanks so much!
WOWWW. So cool!
Thanks Micah!
That noise of rummaging through a toybox brings back memories.
Oh yeah, I get you.
日本人です。まず、すげぇ!。
ゴーストバスターズから知りました。
頑張って‼︎
Turbulent Displacement, turbulent displace! ;) Loving the reference and the build!
I guffawed at the turbulent displacement ref.
Another well done space gun!
Good eye Kevin! =D
came here to say basically this
This is awesome man
Dude you are a true artist
Excellennnnnnnnt, Uncle Bill!!!
Really enjoyed this kitbash project - turned out NICE!!!!!
Also... those masking removal shots are always so satisfying! :D
one piece.... one... piece....
In this episode we delve into the mind and collection of a mad prop-scientist genius!
Bwahahahaa!
My three Grand Kids and I have amassed a HUGE amount of old toys of theirs AND from their friends and rummage sales and re-sale shops!
If it's a BUCK Or Under, and it has "THE LOOK"... we SNAG IT! And YES We also snag "Greeblies" too! :D
Goodwill stickers are the worst. And yes that is so it’s harder to swap stickers. You know because the prices are so unreasonable. Happy belated Birthday by the way.
Well done Bill! Always a pleasure watching your builds ! 🔨🪛🔧🛠
Thanks!
smart job Bill it turned out well looks cool.
Thanks so much!
Wow that rub an buff made a massive difference. Really cool piece
Fun fact, the place you wanted to make a snack holder is to hold a phone....it's a game thing I think
from film riot.. awesome job
Thanks for coming by!
i'm glad to see i'm not the only one who uses the duck tape tension fit! who needs PVC spacers, duck tape solves all problems!
It really does!
that came out sick bro. thanks for the inspirations.
Man thank you guys for all your videos. I have been making foam props and giving as gifts to family over the last year because of your tutorials. You guys are masters of the long form tutorials(which I prefer). Keep up the great work!
Splendid! =D
Fantastic build, and yes learned a lot, examples and explanations spot on 🙂💯
The base gun has a real Asari (from Mass Effect) look and feel to it.
I was about to say: it really does look like Liara T'Soni just dropped it...
the gun your modding up is a cell phone gun..the back piece you popped open is where u set your phone in
Great build! You're right about the weathering, less IS more.
epic!!!! Punished Props and Film Riot . . . PERFECTION!!!
Isn't it?! =D
Watching Punished Props while building a Lego Speed Champions 1970 Ferrari 512 M. Nothing beats it!!!!
Sounds like a fantastic afternoon to me!
@@punishedprops I love to build them on my Dialysis days after treatment. Helps winding down in the evening.
Might have been mentioned in the comments but that black and white VarPark pistol thing is an AR Game controller. You mount your phone on the top hinged part that you glued down. Very cool!
Love your videos
Thanks so much!
The piping bag bondo trick is so smart! Wish I had thought of it like 4 projects ago
Next time that comes up, you're gonna be so stoked!
This has inspired me to kitbash a space pistol out of an old nerf gun! I’ll do a showcase in my channel for those who are interested!!
Using Star Wars merch to kitbash a prop. It's like poetry ; it rhymes.
Holy crap you just validated some of my past projects by wrapping that all thread in tape and jamming the pvc pipe over it. LOL! I can tell even before you paint it its gonna be a cool looking scifi gun.
HA! Hey, whatever gets the job done, yeah? =)
@@punishedprops indeed!
This is freaking RAD!
Thanks!
the slits in the label is so it will lay flat on items with compound curves
Fun build. Nice detail.
Thanks!
Lighter fluid will remove stickers and requires no clean up as it wont damage plasic.
As cool as the prop is, Surebonder make a Ryobi compatible glue gun?! AMAZE!
That blaster turned out really badass. Thank you for sharing.
🔥🔥 turbulent displacement🔥🔥
NICE!!
Please do more of this
Your weathering is amazing, sir. You make it look so easy but your process is incredibly refined. Thanks for showing us your secrets!
Thank you so much!
love the collab
Thanks!
You know what that Pistol reminds me of? The Garland Pistol from MOSPEDIA.
TURBULENT DISPLACE!
KelTec might be interested in doing a partnership with you on their next firearm.
As a gunsmith I'm probably the only one who got this joke. You know goerge kelgren actually helped design the tec-9.
And the sad thing is, it's still better then a hi-point...
I enjoy all the videos you guys put out, but I really liked this format with you making something new and unique and not building to an existing prop. It was nice to see the different creativity.
Making original pieces is always a fun challenge.
I love that there's a random spray painted Maverick in the bin...
I don't even know where that came from.
The unknown gun area is for your phone. Sounds would have worked when connected to the Bluetooth depending on the game played

Hexagons are the bestagons
Truth!
Awesome stuff. I really miss this kind of content!
Thanks!
Brilliant work here!
Always amazing to watch you work! Since starting to watch your channel I now look at off casts, broken toys and garage sale finds in a whole new light. I can't wait for the next build.
That's a fun way to look at the world!
awesome!
You know PPA... "STAR WARS PROPS" were almost TOTALLY "Found Junk" and alot of further SCI-FI Movies and TV Shows STILL us "Found Junk" to make cool stuff with!
If most people knew what "Parts" were used for the INSIDE of Darth Vader's Helmet, {especially in "Return of the Jedi" when the "Reveal" happens} would FREAK!
The Majority of the Inside of Vader's Helmet, especially the parts around his mouth, were from old European IBM Copier/Fax and other "Tech" machines!
They also used "Glenn Ross Dental Expanders" and "Photo Multiplier Dynodes" for the "Vents" on the front face mask part,
Always seeking out tips and tricks, and thank you for sharing the knowledge..
This was an very satisfying watch. Love the creativity here. Weapon turned out fantastic!
Thank you!
The text on the rifle I know is a reference to Turbulent Displacement! Which any longtime Film Riot viewer would know but I’m not sure what the rest means.
As the husband of a Cookie Artist... you can also make piping bags from parchment paper. Cut it in a triangle, roll into a cone, fold or cut a tab into the top end to keep it from unrolling, and then fill and use as normal. Works great and super cheap.
Brilliant!
Have you ever considered weighting these props to make them behave more realistically in your or actor's hands? At the end of the video it looks great, but as soon as you hold it in your hands it is painfully obvious that it is just a hollow plastic as it has no weight to it and it is very visible in the camera.
As a cosplayer I usually try to make props as light as possible. Carrying around the 17lbs Alien Assault Rifle from District 9 for a couple of hours wrecked me.
Go to the fishing shop and buy some large ledger weights I use them the 4oz ones are best bill great video
Ever try lugging around full scale weighted props at a con? Trust me, it get's painfully old after a few hours.
It wouldn't be good for that. But as a movie prop it's ideal just gives it that bit of realism to how it feels in the hand
@@martinbelton4973 It's also a safety thing. On most movies if a gun isn't actively firing in close-up it's probably made of rubber. If an actor is running around, a realistically weighted gun is basically a club they can hurt themselves or someone else with. Picture the bullet-bending scenes from Wanted, then imagine a real metal gun slipping out of James McEvoy's hand and clocking Angelina Jolie in the face....or Tom Hanks running up the beach in Saving Private Ryan, tripping and cracking his ribs on his Tommy Gun.
This is super cool! Great collab.
Thank you!
On the hexagon is bestigon comment... FUNNY! Never heard tht before, but had always wondered why hexigons are mainly use to indicate future... now I know.
Here's why hexagons are the bestagons: czcams.com/video/thOifuHs6eY/video.html
Nice ... loved the short and wondered if you guys did the gun! Love the collaborations!
Love your work!
Very nice, I made a custom steampunk blaster out of spare parts a couple of years ago at the beginning of COVID and I've been itching to make another one since then and this video is really making want to hit Goodwill for cheap toy blasters.
Something that I've learned when painting toy guns is that the cheap $1 semi-gloss black from Home Depot works really well. It goes on fairly glossy for something that's supposed to be semi-gloss but going over it with 0000 steel wool brings down the shine and, in my opinion, makes for a really good simulated blued finish. Painting with a silver base coat and going over the finished gun with the steel wool some more and/or before the black paint fully dries (haven't figured out what does it) creates a nice gunmetal like finish. I really need to experiment some to see if the result is from sanding to the point where the silver barely starts to show through or if it's because the paint's not fully dry yet and steel wool fibers/dust is getting embedded in the pain.
That's a great technique, thanks for sharing. =)
I love this. I build Cigar Box Guitars in a similar way. I never thought of it as "kit bashing", but that's exactly what it is.
I've always wanted to make some prop guns like this (make them into lamps, actually). Now, I am pretty sure I can.
Thanks so much!
"Cigar Box Guitars"? Color me intrigued...
That was awesome. You have a talent!!!
Thanks so much!
I bet filling the main body with sand would add a ton of realism and would remove unwanted rattles!
Although we didn’t have the variety of options available now I remember the kids in my neighborhood spray painting, detailing and weathering our toy guns and swords in the 80’s as grade schoolers to make them look less like toys and more like actual weapons. Many summer hours spent in our dad’s garages using what we tools we could get our hands on.
Unfortunately, these days that would likely get SWAT called on your location. Even when I have NERF firefights in the local parks, I get nervous someone will call 911, even though we make sure no one brings realistically-painted blasters...
Not the red I would've chosen, but... Great job Bill! I wish I could do what you do for a living...
Uuuh, I'm so early! I heckin' love your vids, they always give me happy-place-vibes.
That's fantastic! =D
Every time I watch one of your builds, I want to go and buy a pile of cheap toy guns and have a go.
Then I remember that I have no talent.
So I watch another of your builds.
Great stuff as always.
I like the Brotherhood Of Steel laser pistol from Fallout 4. I miss that game.
this is so cool
Thanks!
Some graphite powder over the black would've looked nice too.
Ooh I like how you think.
Great video, gave we some ideas for a new project, once I finish my current list.
That's fantastic!
Hexagons are the bestagons!
That was a great build, and it looks amazing. I always learn something when I'm watching Punished Props. At about 14 minutes in I was surprised you went with tape and hot glue instead of two part epoxy putty.
I really thought you were going to put that lightsaber on the other direction, or have the lip that you put on the front go up top.
Don't you have a laser cutter for making acrylic circles?
Great vid. looks amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah I love cutting circles on the laser, but sometimes it's just quicker to do it the old fashioned way.
Turbulant Displace 🤣
That was so good, well done!
Thanks so much!
@@punishedprops I looked up that gun out of curiosity, apparently it’s a fancy game controller for mobile app games!
This is an amazing prop with it also being kitbashed all in one and I will say in the back of my head was like "what if someone makes a pump action double barrel shotgun like apparently it's a good prop."
I absolutely love watching your videos! They’re great to listen to and I love the amount of detail you put into every prop! Could you make a hidden blade from assassins creed? It’s a project that I hold very dear to my heart and I would love to see you make one and add it to your collection of props!
Thank you so much!
The bucket of toy parts... be still my beating heart! 🤣
It's a really incredible bucket.
This is awesome! Heading to the thrift store this weekend...
So exciting!
defenitly a carbine blaster, mid range, high fire power
That red you used looks very orange
So that's actually an "Augmented Reality" gun for playing AR shooting games on a smartphone. The "Snack Compartment" is actually to hold your smartphone. Not sure how it works, it has bad reviews. Just thought you might be interested.
you brilliant bastards!
i never knew i did this but i also save greeblies lol didnt even know kitbashing was a thing lol
I believe that hot glue is everywhere in the hollywood prop industry, what I found questionable was using tape (and lots of it) to create a seal on the pipe......
Wow 👏👏👍💪👏
not that it matters but its a suppressor not a silencer but its just good to know the proper nomenclature.
I would to see a tutorial on how you "colorized" it in photoshop. I can never get it too look right and I wonder if it is my PS skills or the base photo that is causing the issue.
No offense meant, it could be both.
That gun looks a lot like the Peacekeeper rifle from Farscape. They used an AUG for their kitbash, but close enough!
End result resemble one of those Smuggler guns in Entropia Universe 😁
Oooh neat!
Lol!!! When I used to bartend I did the same ziplock bag trick when I stuffed blue cheese stuffed olives! 🫒🍸
So clever!
