  • For me, moving to Singapore from Dublin, Ireland was the best decision I've ever made as Singapore is one of the best cities in the world for expats. From this video, you will learn what to expect from Singapore, cost of living in Singapore and more! Watch this if you are moving to Singapore from Europe or USA.

    WHAT IS THIS VIDEO ABOUT:
We spent there almost 4 years in Dublin, Ireland and then we moved to Singapore. In this video, you will know why Europeans are flooding Singapore more and more and what's the biggest game-changer for them to stay here FOREVER!
This video is also applicable to the UK as culturally the UK and Ireland are pretty similar (after these words I think I'll be beaten up by both my British and Irish friends).
In the previous videos, I told you that I've been living in Singapore for 3 years, but... I lied to you! Though last time we moved here in 2018, me and wife spent half a year in Singapore in 2014, as she was doing her MBA in INSEAD. And back then I just left my marketing job for Gucci and started my own company. After Singapore we lived for a few months in France and Spain before we settled up in Ireland for 4 years (almost all the time living in Dublin, Ireland).
But through this time we were constantly thinking that we wanna go back to our favorite country - Singapore:
    1. The weather. I know many Singapore expats hate that's is so hot in Singapore, but believe me: if you were born in a cold country, you would hate being constantly cold!
Why do you need to struggle half a year long! For example, you have to buy warm clothes, how about that?! And here in Singapore, you save a lot of money cause you need only a t-shirt and slippers. Only time you are frozen is inside the Grab taxi in Singapore!
And I've no idea why winter still exists?! Before the pandemic, we went to Japan for skiing. After a couple of days oI was like: what's the point to have winter at all?!
So Irish weather was not for us. Can you imagine: When you check the forecast and see an 18 degrees Celcius, you cancel all your meetings and go to the beach.
    2. Next one is Europe is too relaxed for me. If you are keen to work on your career or build a business - it's more organic to be surrounded by more motivated people like you see here in Singapore. Although I run my business remotely, mentally it's much easier to do it from Singapore vs Dublin, Ireland.
*There is something unique about Singapore. The warmer the country the less business and career-oriented it is. I know some South Africans living in Singapore, they say it's much easier to work from here.
    3. The next one is the income tax. This is for you to know what to expect Singapore. In most of the European countries, income taxes are crazy high. In Ireland, you will end up paying 40% for a decent salary. And in some European countries, you'll have to give up to the government up to 60% of the money you made! While in Singapore you pay just around 10 to 15% depending on your salary. Singapore cost of living is cool:)
    4. We have a 4-years old daughter. And in Ireland, if we wanted to put her in a decent school, we would need to sign up for it before we conceived her. I'm not kidding. The queue for good schools is literally several years.
In Singapore, international schools are quite expensive, it's true, sometimes the cost of living in Singapore is high, but there are so many options for good schools with no queue at all. And if we want to save money it's also possible to send Liza to a local school which is much cheaper. And I actually have some expat friends who chose a local school over an international one.
    5. Safety. Most of my friends from Dublin, Ireland experienced stealing something from them. It's pretty normal in Dublin, Ireland. While in Singapore if my wife is going out with friends and its 10pm and I want to sleep.... I'll just go to bed and sleep! It's very very safe in Singapore comparing to other big cities worldwide.
    ....

My niece is half Vietnamese half Uk born & raise rest life in Vietnam, speak perfectly both languages.
When she’s 17yo (class 11) go to Uk study to prepare for university.
Before move to Uk, she have visit with her dad about 2week & she like it, that’s why the plan is she move there after finish highschool in Vietnam, but her plan changes to rush faster.
IN HER LAST YEAR IN HIGHSCHOOL - she study in small beach city. After STAY THERE - EVERYTHING CHANGE!!
She go there with highest open-mind attitude & about to learning news things, explore. But she end-up stressed, ppl is BLOODY COLD & EVERYTHING IS DIFFICULT. She’s not facing racist (since her is half mix) but all her highschool friends is VERY CLOSE-MINDSET & IGNORANT.
Cold freezer winter snow, and grey sky, rainny season.. walking half hour to get a bus under rainny cold snow days, day after day. IT KILP HER MOOD!!
But she’s so strong because she’s think it’s SMALL COUNTRYSIDE SO PPL IS IGNORANT & PPL IS NOT INTERACTING ENOUGH, so just wait after finish HS & go to London or big city for Uni,
      it will better.
Shes study in LONDON, everything is okay, but shes still shock at ALOTS YOUNGFUL PPL, STUDENT & INCLUDE WELL EDUCATION PPL is so ignorance & clueless, very BIAS TO ASIAN.
she dont face racist (as i said shes fluent Englisj & have Brit accents, amd shes half mix Asian vs Brit) but some of her Asian friends (exactly vietnamese friends) facing racist. her bestfriend in highshools friend in Vietnam was study in germany, sweden & us. theyre all facing racist probpems, ppl is UNBELIEVE RUDE & CRAZY MENTAL AGGRESSIVE!! 3 of her highshoops friend after graduation is move move to VN. they saying "ppl there is ignorant, uneducation, violents & bloody racist". NO, theyre all youngful open-mind & fluent english. so they dont have problem with conversation & adopt cultures.
now, my niece livin in London for 9y. AND SHE SAY IT GETTING WORSE EACH YEARS.
BLOODY RACIST & VIOLENT ATTACK EVERYWHERE!! homeless, druggies throwing shit & attack ppl. THE RIDICOUSLY IS THEY HAVE MORE FREEDOM & BENEFITS & PROTECT BY GORVERMENT THAN LAW ABIDING WORKER PPL.
not including millions immigrants get accept so easy & get all benefit. while high skills & education immigrants CANT GET PR.
there are welfare queen who give birth to 8 kids, both wife & husband never working since theyre teenage till now. theyre never working any job for entire their life, only stay at home & give birth, lychyn from social welfare - pay by taxpayers. they have house, benefits & social workers help them take care kids.
shes plan to move back to Vietnam or Sing in next years.
all of her friends saying UK/US is fails & fails already.
fails system falling so fast si bad. it was GREAT DREAM LAND OF opportunity. But it was long time ago, not now
Because US/UK GORVEMENT CREATING MORE DUMB LAWS TO PROTECT & SUPPORT HELP DRUGGIES, THUGS, CRIMINALS & LAZY AGGRESSIVE PERSON!!
And they’re creating more laws systems to squeezing law abiding ordinary people!!
UNBALANCE & UNFAIR LAW SYSTEMS IS HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR WHOLE COUNTRY DOWN.
She’s saying in decades laters, UK (at least big cities as London) will be flooding by druggies homeless & druggies thugs. Because UK Gorvement & ppl not seeing drugs as problems, big issues. They’re very open & softly on drugs -> it creating more younhful teenage & young adult & many families affected by drugs.

Max that’s interesting!! Just fyi Religion and races are sensitive topics in Singapore and we respect all language, race and religion, so it’s likely not very encouraged to have satirical jokes about religion and races here.. I like how u appreciate Singapore, being a local here haha, cheers!

Great stuff! I did want to ask about your opinion on healthcare though. Singapotr definitely doesn't have cheap healthcare compared to the EU though, although you're somewhat compelled to buy insurance. How do you reconcile that (especially when you're older), might that be a reason to leave or you'll save up for medical expenses? Genuinely curious as my European in laws do find that to be a barrier, quite understandably!

    • @MaxChernov
      @MaxChernov  Pƙed 3 lety +3

Really varies from country to country. For example if you are a French citizen, healthcare would be free for you and it’s quite good.
In some countries healthcare is crap.
I would say that in most of the cases to have great healthcare you have to buy insurance.

@@MaxChernovThanks, might I understand this to mean it won't be a motivating factor for you to leave? To be honest, my husband's family is in the Netherlands and they've always been touted to have a good system, but what it seems to do is to fit the needs of the population sufficiently, but probably it doesn't have the best care, even if you can afford it. I learnt that when we had issues over the weekend or late night and you just had to go with the avaliable doctor and not the one you're familiar with. It would be inconceivable here that my ob gyn who I see everytime for my monthly checkups, would not be the same person when I was giving birth to my child. But that's how it would have been there. Hahaha just different expectations. Anyway, thanks for reading and responding! Keep up the great work!

@@Princess_Pearyou are all over the place. Needing a doctor over the weekend sounds like an emergency situation. Singaporeans also are told to be just go to the KK emergency department on weekends or late nights. That’s different from the doctor that will eventually deliver.
