I have just completed all 13 episodes of Amanda's by the Sea. This will be the 50th time in my life that I've seen each and every single episode of any TV Series, whether it's short-lived like Amanda's or long-running.
I like this theme music of this show! I was also surprised of the negative comments myself. I rather watch this show than some of the shows they got now.

Have you checked out Snavely? This was tons better than that version of Fawlty Towers. Certain actors/actresses are always a little bit of that one type of character that they play best. Because Betty white and Harvey Korman were not allowed to be a little bit of the type of characters they play best the thing was a flop.
I kind of wish they would have given this show more time and not canceled it so early, it could have really gotten better! But shortly after this she started the golden girls so I guess it worked out for the best ! 😁

The writing is sharp, the comedy is high brow, the acting is exquisite. I love Bea, but this character does seem to be a transition between maude and dorothy. Maude's presence and wit, dorothy's sarcastic delivery and exasperation. All in all, a fantastic find!
One of 3 attempts to amerincanise a superior British Comedy, Fawlty Towers. Americans will never learn that they cannot replicate british comedy unless the lower the IQ of the 'writers' or 'copycats', stick to your own dire, unfunny shit.

Actually, the script is excellent. It’s directly taken from the British sitcom Fawlty Towers. The original is truly hilarious but it doesn’t make sense in an American context.
The really funny thing is that Amanda’s ended its run with higher ratings than Cheers, Family Ties, and several other well know shows that were renewed for another season.
It was more so Bea Auther who got the show cancelled, she wanted a rest and went into retirement. Two years later she got the offer she couldn't refuse the Golden Girls and the main reason she chose to do it was the Golden Girls was amazing but it had four leading cast members so It meant the workload wouldn't just be all her.
I've absolutely loved Bea Arthur since I was a little kid watching Maude. I've never seen or heard of this show though. So appreciative of you to upload this for true fans to enjoy 🙂
This is just a rip-off remake of the British sitcom Fawlty Towers. Even the Hispanic busboy character has been copied from that show. The only difference is that in the original, Bea’s character is played by a man.
This is better than Golden Palace (the Golden Girl's redo after Bea left!). No wonder Bea left Golden Girls after season 7! She probably knew they were going to try a Fawlty Towers remake again!

Bea Arthur was a force of nature. She was probably amongst a very small selection of American talent who could take droll British humour / material and Americanise it in a way that retained the essence of the source material while delivering it in a way that was as funny as it could be to an American audience. The best American interpretation.

Yes this show does not feature John Cleese and it wasn't written by John Cleese and Connie Both (not directly at least, they were directly adapted from the original scripts by John Cleese and Connie Booth) but it stars Bea Arthur, one of the most talented and funniest actresses of all time. the performances from all the cast were great and the humour transferred easily to the US.

Maude was disgracefully liberal. I think Norman felt guilty for whatever reason. I never liked the show. Her husband was more like the wife. Maude was the man of the house and Carol, was Maudes ignorant protege. I'm a huge fan of Bea Arthur as a comedic actress but in Maude, all she was, was fat and overbearing.
It’s a shame as Bea Arthur was such a strong powerful lady that she would of had no trouble pulling this off. But you can only work with the tools you are given & sadly she wasn’t given the right tools. Plus the name Amanda was to soft for her character. But what a wonderful lady Bea Arthur was.

Only Bea Arthur had the type of character to do it!! She was great in everything she did.
Bea was an extremely underestimated & underrated actress. I loved her in Maude.

Yeah she’s no ‘Amanda’ that’s for sure! She Should have been simply called Beatrice!!
This wasn’t a bad show. But...of course...if it weren’t cancelled, there would be no Golden Girls.
