Nice video! I flew United a few weeks ago, EWR-MXP, 772. Honestly, I’m too big and old for economy anymore, so I was nearly crippled by the time we reached Milan. To my pleasant surprise, United emailed an offer to upgrade to Premium Plus for only an addl ~$200. Best $200 I’ve spent in a long time! The check-in was easier, food marginally better, seat infinitely better. I’ll never go back to economy, which is probably their business strategy: give ‘em a taste of luxury and they’re sold forever!
The funny thing is that these are Aspire seats (which are also found on AA's newest 787s and Aeroflot's A350s), which even though made by Collins Aerospace, it's a different model than Collins Meridian, found on Jetblue's A220s, Southwest's MAXes, AA's Oasis, Air Canada's new narrowbodies, and even United's own MAXes. You should fly on United's MAXes to see if their Meridian seats are any better than these Aspire seats, and how do United's MAXes compare to Oasis given that they (and Southwest, Jetblue, and Air Canada) use the same seat
I flew on those same new seats on a refurbished 777-200ER from London to San Francisco yesterday and had a metal rod jabbed into my back the whole 11 hours. The seats seriously lack padding.
All United long hauls economy seats are like this. I am a regular Delta flyer and during a few IROPS, DL flew me on UA. Unless you get the really old interiors, all their newer and better looking cabin, like this one, features slimline seat with rock hard seatbacks. They are even worst than the Asian airlines. After a few times, I refuse to be re-routed through UA.
@@_w_w_ i've flown on one of their 767s, and those seats are the newer seats within their 767 realm. Those, their 777-300ERs, and their 787-8s have a different seat model than the seats shown in this video. I find their 767 seats to be decently padded, so I think it's just the 777-200ER, 787-10, and 787-9 that you should avoid.
@@Blank00 The older -200ER are better. The seat shown here is the Rockwell Collins Aspire seat. The same seat is used by others as well but United didn't spend the extra money for better seat cushion. United's other slimline is made by Recaro. Guess what? Delta uses Recaro too, but it gets better cushions. The difference is HUGE! I get off Delta A350 economy feeling good but get off United's B787 feeling like shit.
@@_w_w_ Actually, only United's Airbus narrowbodies are Recaro, which are the same seat found on Alaska's planes. And Delta's A350s are their only planes that use Recaro seats, and they are actually a different Recaro model than what United uses because Delta's recaros are for A350 long haulers while United's Recaros are for their A319 short haulers. The Aspire seats are only found in their 777-200ERs, 787-10, and new 787-9s. However, in United's fleet, 737NGs, 757-300s, all 767s, 777-300ERs, 777-200 Domestic, 787-8, and older 787-9s use the Collins Pinnacle seat, which is basically the predecessor of the Aspire. Their older 787-9s have been retrofitted with the new Polaris and Premium Plus, but their Pinnacle seats remain, not being replaced by the Aspire. The Collins Pinnacle is also found on Delta's A330s (CEO & NEO), A320s (CEO family & A321NEO), A220s, most 757s, 737-900ER, and 767-400 (although the 767-400 has a different headrest than other new Delta planes). I've flown on United's Pinnacle seats many times and I found them to be decently padded. Obviously you have not flown on their 767s, or their 737NGs, or 787-8s, or their 777-300ERs. I can speak from experience that not all United seats are rock hard and some United seats are better than others. I have flown on their A320 once, and I can say for myself that their Recaro seats are less padded than United's own pinnacle seats, which are found in the majority of United's overall fleet.
@@Blank00 You just validated what I said. Pinnacles are previous gen to Aspire and they are both rock hard. At the moment. Pinnacles are used in the last round of renos and Aspires are used for new incoming aircraft. Regardless, UA's choices in seat is THE worse among the big 3 US airlines. That's not my opinion, that's a fact... Just see the countless of people complaining about the same. Delta went out of their way to use better seat cushion. This goes back to my initial stance.. even economy seats from the same manufacture is not created equally. United's seats are horrendous because they make terrible choices like everything they do.
I connected in FRA last May flying from EWR to Dublin. Had to take a bus to a different terminal, go upstairs to check in for the Dublin flight, then come back downstairs and get on another bus to drive out to the plane. Very strange set up, although it's cool to board via stairs on occasion.
Indeed, I'll briefly touch on it in the next video, but I especially love the fact that people transferring often have no idea where to go as their gate's aren't posted, and they don't even give a terminal to help guide you.
Nice video. If you are less than 6 ft tall, economy is ok, for me that I'm 6'3" (maybe to tall for a Mexican) its's kind of uncomfortable but can manage... Greetings from Mexico.
I think ANA, as well. But I don’t have plans to visit Japan. It’s sort of ironic that JAL/ANA offer the most comfortable economy seats - Asian people in general are shorter and slimmer than Western people.
I've reviewed it twice before, and find the seat and food completely uncompetitive. The food in particular is truly inedible. I'd rather use my airline miles/credit card points for something more deserving. I was looking at some last minute 1st class inventory but ultimately decided against it due to a long layover and still changing COVID entry requirements.
Because they can't spit the upper market into three easily. International business class is now effectively first, with the rise of dine on demand and doors. Airlines now see Premium Economy as the next gold mine, and are frantically refitting that.
bring one … i hear they don’t wash the blankets … i got a cheap thin travel blanket off amazon i also bring my own pillow im also going to hawaii this winter on the 787
United proved to me again and again that seats are NOT created equal. The seats on their 787 and 777 for long haul are the MOST uncomfortable seats in the air. Delta and Americans are better. That extra little bit of cushion and lumbar support makes a HUGE difference if you are gonna tough it out in economy.
@@wotan10950 If you pay pre-econ price with United, you might as well as fly with a real good airline. Only thing United is good for is their ULCC pricing.
@@_w_w_ I’m rather limited in my options. The most convenient airport for me is Newark, and United offers by far the widest variety of nonstops. So choosing a “real airline” would likely involve a transfer, and I’m not interested.

It's the exact same thing on American with their dynamic pricing for miles. 100k miles for Paris and Barcelona in July. Economy.
Flying Frankfurt-Chicago tomorrow with the 787-10
What happened on Lufthansa that made you pass up biz class for United economy????

If so many airlines are getting rid of "first class" why are they still having dual class seating at all??

I flew the new 772 cabin on HNL-IAH red eye. Seat 53E, last row middle. It was absolutely awful
I wouldn’t have minded the extra stopovers or over 30 hours of travel if it meant I’d fly in business class
Do they have power for a laptop cord?
They do not have a USB C charger outlet, though it is becoming more common these days.
I'm going to Hawaii it's gonna be a 9 hour flight does anyone know if United provide blankets? I don't know if I should take one or not...

I’ll be leaving Hawaii and coming back with United this week I can come back and review
American sent a memo to their FAs to not lock the windows on the Dreamliner
Indeed they did fairly recently, but on my prior flights it was pretty bad, and who knows about changing the culture.
I don't like dimmable windows. I'd rather the old sliding shade because it's easier to adjust exactly how much light I want.
