    Thanks for sharing this! Im considering prs and have a .308. I see so much debate about .308 vs 6 or 6.5c. Curious what your thoughts are on the .308 for tactical and open division? Is it that much of a disadvantage or can you compete well with a .308?
    Also, if you or anyone else wants to share Id be curious to hear how the course environment differs from a tactical match to open match? Still learning, thanks for any in site!

      Hi Chris, at the matches in the UK that I’ve been to, the divisions all shoot the same course of fire so you’ll be competing like for like within your division. There is usually an overall score too, so that would be all shooters in all divisions.
      You compete in limited division with a .308 and if it’s a factory rifle, with no mods, alternatively you could shoot in the factory division. You’d need to check the rules for the match to make sure you’re in the right division.
      You could also compete in open division- nothing stopping you. That way you can add weights to the chassis and other mods.
      Same for any calibre, get out and know your drops and learn wind.
      Best way to do it is just start going to the matches as you learn so much from the other shooters, and it’s a great experience.

    Great shooting, bit of advice, I’m looking at a Daniel defende delta 5 pro in 308, these only come with a 20” barrel unfortunately but would this rifle still be competitive with this type of competition shooting?

      Sorry I’m no ballistics expert so can’t give you a technical explanation on your max effective range. I would guess (feel free to correct me) that barrel length, twist rate, bullet weight and muzzle velocity would all be key factors in establishing this data for you. Probably a quick trick to work out what your bullet will do out to 1000m (max range we shoot at PRS shoots) would be to plug all your data into your ballistics calculator and see what your bullet will do and when it goes from supersonic to transonic.

      @@fuellifetv2934 I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as I do! If you don’t have a ballistics app I would recommend apps.apple.com/gb/app/geoballistics/id972536756 it’s free and easy to use. Also it works when you don’t have a phone signal (unlike some others)

    Hi Jon, i ended up buying a tikka t3x tac a1 in .308, but would you be able to tell me what loads you have been using in your .308? ive been speaking to some other prs shooters but they shoot 6.5 and cannot point me in the right direction, the internet has some very contradicting answers, ive looked online at 168 & 175grreviews but still non the wiser where to start

      Loads 🫣, I’ve been using factory ammo 💪. My rifle like anything with a 175gn Sierra match king bullet, so I use SELLIER&BELLOT 175gn match ammo - works a treat.

      Don’t feel like you need to be a polished article to compete. The people at the comps are a friendly bunch and as someone new to the discipline you will get coached through with the help of your squad mates. We are all happy to share gear and help people get into the sport. A good way to get a feel for it is coming along to a .22 rimfire match - if you have a bolt action .22 you can go through the motions and shake out your centre fire gear.

    why'd you go with 308 n how does Victrix compare to AI - can it handle the tortures a battle rifle would encounter

    • @JonCresswellUk
      @JonCresswellUk  Před rokem +2

      I wanted you to go to a military calibre, always liked .308/7.62. Plus it has a longer barrel life than creedmoor 😁. The precision rifle comps have a “limited” division too, so I can compete against others who shoot .308 or .223.
      It’s one of Victrix Professional series rifles and is used by military across the globe. I believe Victrix and AI compete in the same league - both are very capable rifles.
