    I'm more excited about your episodes than anything I could see on any of the networks. You are two of the most charismatic couples on CZcams and so much fun to watch plus the knowledge that you share is amazing. I wish you could post more but know you are saving history and for that I thank you!

    After seeing how Janie's kitchen turned out, I am making some changes to how I rework my kitchen in the coming year. It's a total gut job (doublewide). Was going all white farmhouse, but have decided to add more color. I inherited my mother's Fiesta dishes and some Wedding Ring milk glass, as well as some 1950's tablecloths. I also have some green glass, cobalt glass, and cranberry glass to add splotches of color. Wish I had a true farmhouse on my farm, but that isn't possible, so I'm making do with what I have.

      I would love to see your before and after kitchen redo. Adding some of your Mom's green glass, cobalt and cranberry glass will look amazing. Your Momma's 1950's Tablecloths will add so much too. I only have a bit of what my Momma gave me before she passed with 4 younger sisters they took the rest. I always asked for a few of their wine glasses but don't have any. I love you in Christ. Hugs from northern California.

      I envy your milk and colored glass. I'd have them lined up on shelves where the sun could, ideally, shine through them but if not, at least get to them. Wavy or bubbled glass fronted cabinets? I'm excited for you. :)

    My husband and I have just recently found out about your channel, so this was great to be able to get up to speed on all your projects. We live in a house built in 1910 that we restored 13-14 years ago. We love old houses like you do. Our old house was very plain when it was built, so we salvaged a lot of old house parts and gussied it up a bit. We love watching your channel!
    It’s funny that you live in Conway, Arkansas. I have been subscribed to a channel of a gardening family who just moved from Vilonia to South Carolina. Laine, I wonder if you would be interested in looking at some of the houses in Bramwell, WV. The history of the town is amazing. It’s a one square mile town with huge homes built in early 1900’s by coal barons. History tour says that in 1911 there were more millionaires per capita in Bramwell than anywhere in US. Some have been restored but some are big,beautiful treasures just wasting away. I would love to see someone like you get involved.

    I love the fact that, well, I guess that I found you. You've been around forever but until recently, I never saw your channel. Meanwhile, my ex-husband and I managed to fully restore one house, that should probably be called a "Sears Kit Victorian" ** and it was quite a job. We then bought a marginally run down Ante-Bellum house (circa 1850) which, unfortunately, we were never able to finish. But I have always loved restoring (NOT renovating) and believe in it SO MUCH!
    I always knew there were others who felt the same but it is good to see your work and progress. My only wish is that might be able to find a partner in my area (the Mid-Atlantic area), especially for house tours or houses for sale. And, possibly, in other areas of the country so it really would be "national." Perhaps some day that would be possible.
    ** For any who don't know, in the early 20th century, Sears & Roebuck, Co. which was best known for its catalogues, even offered a a whole line of full house "kits" that one could buy. It included every single thing one needed to build an entire house and was intended to help people, especially in the western states, so they would have everything, right down to the nails and fretwork, for any kind of house style available at the time. If you do a google search for "Sears House Kits," there's much more information about them.

    I love watching you both. I learn so much and your enthusiasm is infectious. In this “throw away society” that we live in it is refreshing to see the old houses come back to life. A lot of our old houses in Australia are torn down to make way for apartment buildings and townhouses, which is a crying shame. I wish there were more people here who appreciated the history that comes with these gems. That is why I love anything old. I often wonder what the story is behind who owned a home and, if the walls could talk, what would they tell us. Keep up the good work. With best wishes from Down Under 😘💕🇦🇺

    Thank you for the summary. For those of us who arrived late to the dance, this video is particularly helpful. My wife and I rehabbed a 1936 Norman French wreck two decades ago. (A friend described the place as "dumpster bait.") It was powerfully rewarding but exhausting. I appreciate all you're doing. Thank you for sharing your adventures.

      Tell me more, Chris. I've never heard of Norman French. Droolworthy?

    • @mkofftiger
      @mkofftiger Před 3 lety +2

      @@mala3isityMany Norman French houses have conical entries. Ours doesn't, decorative red brick and stone instead. It does have other features typical of the style: steep gable roof (sufficient height and windows to transform an attic into third floor usable space), dormers intruding into the fascia, stone lintels and entry surround, brick and stone construction, multiple double-hung windows. It was such a wreck when we bought it, the former owner began negotiating by saying that the asking price was for the land only. My wife had to ask if the house came with it! One plumber suggested that the master bathroom shower pan had been leaking since "the Truman Administration." It took a year; we survived, and the house did too, but there were times when it was touch and go. That's why I enjoy your videos so much. I love what you do for these places; I'm however no longer up to the task. God bless you, you're doing the Lord's own work by saving these places.

      @mala3isity Před 3 lety +1

      @@mkofftiger Your home sounds lovely. I love stone lintels. I've heard that really old ones had carvings in them. LOL on the Truman administration. Gables and dormers are a favorite, too. Thanks for providing an overview of what y'all are doing, I'm a recent viewer and this helps to get in to the "loop." My wife and I have spent the last 42+ years restoring an 1899 National Register Edwardian home in a small South Carolina town and moved another house of similar vintage to our farm . Neither will ever be totally "finished." We are now redoing projects which were first completed decades ago. Two can be overwhelming, five is hard to imagine. As a "purist" I commend your dedication to preserving these homes, not remodeling them. Most "old house" print and electronic media have, unfortunately, now become simply advertising outlets for expensive restoration products or services. You keep the enthusiastic preservation spirit alive without which restoration can become a self defeating exercise in frustration. Our Restoration Nation gives a morale boost to many of us perpetually in the thick of the restoration process. At the very least, we know that we're not the only ones still demented enough to take on such endeavors! Bless you!

    Really enjoyed the update! Since Louise was struck by lightening, is there possibility of installing lightening rods and grounding historic homes? I know how dry the wood is and how fast and hot it burns. It’s like a death when the old homes are lost. I asked a friend of mine what were those posts on top of her house. That’s when I learned that this was a thing to do. We have not done it to our house, but it has always stayed with me… especially in a lightening storm!

    We owned a house in East Texas and realized that we were having some floor issues because of a leak by a door.
    When the repairman pulled up the carpet he said, "it's a wonder that someone hasn't fallen through the floor." And that would have been about a 5 ft. drop!😬

We have some beautiful Victorian, Mission style, Spanish style, Queen Anne homes, some have the Carriage house in back and iron fence and gates that came around the cape. We're in northern California next to a City established in 1854, that still has an old Brothel above a Saloon Restaurant where photographs were taken during Beckwourth Frontier Days that can be found online. Her name was Chateau Debris. Of course she got torn down to add more university buildings. Her old wrought iron fence was saved by a friend along with a scary stained glass window. The glass was held in by a lick and a prayer.

    The houses are all beautiful but I think Janie is my soul child, as you put it :) That's so charming, by the way. I love your use of color. It's true to the era and evokes such a peaceful aura to enjoy. Thank you for the update on all of your houses and I look forward to every video. I do understand the couple of degrees shy of Hades reference here in Galveston and like you, I'm waiting restlessly for Fall. I can't wait to do more work on my 1920 house and carriage house. It's time for painting again on the exterior. Thank you for all of the hard work you're doing to restore these old treasures. Once they're gone, we've lost a valuable piece of our history and that would be truly heartbreaking. Many thanks and great appreciation to you from Texas.

    Thanks for sharing your updates on your houses. Louise was so beautiful and so glad you are honoring her memory by keeping her in the intro of your videos, I love how you both are like kids relaxing on her front porch, just precious. If you ever have reason to go through South Carolina go through Due West. They have the most amazing abandoned historical homes there and just outside the city. If I had a Kevin I would definitely be working on one. Thanks again for all you do and for sharing your adventures.

    You're really doing good work, saving homes. I have never lived in a Victorian Home, but I get so excited when I see one that's being kept up and looking good. I don't know why I favor Victorian's and even decorate with old Victorian trends from the past.

    I would love to go around finding old Victorians to fix up and collect, but I’m too old now to do it and I’m all alone. So I really enjoy watching you do it as I don’t have to get exhausted. I really love what you have done with the bungalow, oh my that kitchen, and sea foam green is my favorite color. You do such amazing work and you’re both adorable, you really remind me of my best friends who live in California, I moved to Texas and I came this close (-) to buying an old Victorian but I just couldn’t do it. I do however have a beautiful grand Queen Anne three story dollhouse that I built and have collected miniatures for over 40 years and she is magnificent. Each room is on its own circuit so I can light up the house however I like, she has a two story wrap around porch and a three story octagonal tower. 2 little attic rooms and a conservatory/artist loft on the top making it really 4 stories tall. It’s in 1/12 scale and over time since 2008 I have invested nearly $50k in her construction and furnishings. I say she was built in 1897 but the viewers date is a summer day in June 1927, that way I got to update the kitchen and have a beautiful Art Deco bedroom. Nothing has been left out. The little drawers are full of little clothes and assorted things that you would find in a drawer. The armoires have the owners clothes hanging in them all custom made. I have used the talents of many Etsy and eBay artisans in the miniature community from all over the world, the 30 different wallpapers are all from Spain and period accurate, the furniture is all museum quality and I hope to have her put in a museum one day. You would really love her she is overstuffed in true Victorian fashion with collectible pieces from all over the world. My dining room has an exquisite table set for six with bone China in the willow pattern that I had custom made from Stokesay England it took a year to have it made and delivered and cost a fortune. Each place setting has a sterling silver charger, sterling flatware, real crystal blue stemmed goblets in three sizes, real folded linen napkins all the serving pieces, tureen, gravy boat, and matching tea set on a beautiful hand tatted miniature lace tablecloth an artist from Turkey made. I have a wonderful collection of miniature Asian pottery, pink carnival glass, sterling silver,actual readable miniature library of books, wine bottles corked with real wine inside and oh so much more. I named her Linda Louise after my mom who passed away in 2018. She is currently still in her packing crate waiting for me to get her base built and finish the exterior landscaping, and she needs all her draperies to be custom ordered and then she will be done. She is truly my passion project and a dream I have waited for ever since I was a little boy. I believe I have pictures of her on my Instagram @ ChuckandMax if you like little dogs you will love my little Max it’s really his Instagram page. He is my little service dog and has traveled everywhere with me domestically and internationally, he has his own little passport and global chip. Well I don’t know if you will ever read this but if you do, I’d like to be your friend. And get to know you better.
