Feeling good about my ZV-1 pre-order. I have been testing out the A7RIV at similar focal lengths and I have no problem with an extended monopod/tripod/selfie stick. Thanks for the critical overviews and comparisons. Hopefully next Thursday...
I have the M6 II. You need to reduce the contrast on the picture profile and enable Highlight Tone Priority to make it look good.
You gotta use a ND and Cine style on Canons (they don’t have the dynamic range of the Sony’s) and expose for the highlights then recover the shadows a bit it post. Sony looks good though, they really improved their colors and have tons of detail.
Priorities for vlogging:
Content > stabilization > framing >= exposure > toneh >= sensor size
Everytime you ask "is this good content?" I always answer out loud YES...Yes it is my friend.

As a menu anxiety sufferer I've spent I lot of years avoiding Sony, but what bullshit was that? I've just picked up an A7 mk1, they cost so little now, and I'm loving it!.....I'm taking a night class in Sony menu systems so all will be fine by the time graduation comes around.

Do you think the ZV-1 is ok with a 19" ring light or will that 1" fall apart? Considering the M6 II, A6600 & A7C. Would love to save a few bucks if it would work well. I'll likely be in Full Auto most of the time indoor & outdoor... I think the A7s III is out of my price range, but do love that higher frame rate.

Oh god, don’t use the standard color profile on the Canon, it sucks. Go with faithful, and maybe knock the contrast down a couple of ticks.

@@MomentousGaming Canon colours are fantastic, but not with all Picture Profiles and not in all lighting situations. I've never seen a camera that maintains consistent colour in all lighting situations, unless white balance has been manually set for each situation.

Somehow you magically compared all the cameras I’m looking at lol. I have the m6ii, been wanting to compare with the RP & I want a ZV-1 but it’s still not out. I have a weird feeling that the ZV1 is going to win for me but I’m worried I’ll miss the toneh in a studio setting. 🤔
I know it's a year later but what did you choose? I have the same issue but instead of a sony, i'm looking at the Lumix G9 and it's bugging the hell out of me because i really like the M6II look and body, while being tempted by RP's full frameness.

These videos showed some amazing camera performance, yours was pretty good too lol. That sv1 seems bad ass. 24 mm seems perfect on that camera. Toneh is pretty sweet. Too wide looks gimmicky to me. I would shoot almost anything with it. I’m getting one. Yo what’s up with you screwing up that Olympus vs sv1 comparison? Lol great camera reviews, camera operator not so much ay. Thank for the comparison. Try if the canons allow you to enable their "highlight tone priority" (buried deeeep in the menu)in video mode. Its awesome for saving clipped highlights.
My Sony filter adapter and Vivitar wide angle thingy are on the way. Will they give us the wide angle so many are clamoring for on the ZV-1? TBD

How is the canon dynamic range is about the same as phone camera's dynamic range, say it's default profile but why can't it be at least better than a phone at default?

I think you mean no headphone input. The M6ii def has a mic input.
I hear a lot of good things about the Sony A7S II and A7 III for vlogging. Both are not cheap but Id definitly like to see you compaire those 2 full frame cameras.

Great video but something that was said a lot kept bothering me. In full manual mode on the M6ii you can’t control ISO, shutter, and aperture??? I can absolutely control all 3 in manual mode on my M6ii or set auto ISO. I’m not sure if its something you enable in the menu, but I shoot manual mode, 4K, 24fps, shutter 50, f1.4 with a Sigma 16mm. Stabilization on, ISO 100, without HDR, AF/ face detection servo on and I’m pretty happy with the footage. I’m no pro though. Really shocked at how great the ZV1 is too. For a point and shoot is great. I thought I wouldn’t like the crop (which technically I dont) but its small enough to throw it on pod and go. Just curious about those M6 settings. I couldn’t recreate the AF issues were having with mine. This Canon AF from both cameras is horrible lol like AF was broken or something weird.
Try other lenses on the m6 mkii, i'd like to see it with the standrad kit lens, but even better with sigma 16mm f1.4

I agree, the Sony ZV1 looks better! I've been on the hunt for a compact APSC to replace my RX100VA (soon to be ZV1), is there anything out there that is almost as compact? I tried out the Fuji X100V but it doesn't seem to have decent enough autofocus for video and videocentric features like on the ZV1 (or RX100 series).

ZV-1 + wide angle converter in active stabilisation, please test it! :)
How? it's a point and shoot with a built in retracting lens with no filter thread. if you were to some how attach one it would fall off when the lens retracts or break the retracting mechanism.

What happened with the autofocus on the RP?
Consider the vertical presentation. With the longer focal length (Sony), the bottom half of the image is the Vloggers shirt/top/chest. You might say, it creates a crop where the viewer is presented a (guessing here) 16:9 ratio image on top of a (using your black shirt as example) a black bottom image.

The RP's phase detect SF in 4K is even worse than Panasonic, which I thought was impossible. I was very disappointed overall by the M6 II and I asked for it.

I can't remember if you ever looked at the Sony E 10-18mm OSS om am aA6000 series body? Pretty good, not that I've tried it for a walking vlog. Then you can put one of those small Sony mics (no battery) in the hot shoe, Which you can plug a lav into and then switch back and forth depending what way you're pointing the camera. Nice small set up with stabilization and external mics
Wait wtf? I'm an avid sony user, and I though that the in the beginning the left was better, but i assumed it was Canon. The depth of field is phenomenal there, Im surprised the sensor on the Sony actually looks as good as that. I was skeptical of the ZV1, but this video really sold it.
Its pretty simple. the ZV1 uses an internal ND filter so it can use f1.8 even in bright sunlight. the canon was in a very high aperture. thats why the background didnt get blury. You would have to put a ND filter infront of the lense(he raised the shutterspeed later which is not a good solution because it will cause weird motion blur).

I’m curious about how you’d get on with an X-T4 and Zeiss Touit 12mm combo. I don’t own either, which is partly why I’m curious. I doubt it’ll end your search either. But the lens sounds a bit quirky and should give you plenty to talk about ;-). Also...is it even possible for a lens to be...sexy? Ponder upon that one.
You should really consider testing the ZV1 with 0.7x wideangle converter lens. Thats assuming there is a filter thread available in the ZV1...
