This message was important long before now. White people have got to step up and stop systemic racism and white supremacy. We created this horrific problem and we need to fix it, as well as pay reparations. Black people should not have to beg and protest for their lives simply for being black.
they could have easily just cut his rope saving that one black man. However the problem wasn't the rope in actuality it was the enormous and difficult to cut down tree being the metaphor for the entire system of oppression that disinfranchises the back community as a whole. And not just one of us but ALL of us black, white, and and every other race needs to stand up and work together to end institutionalized racism because injustice is a threat to justice everywhere! He did a good job!

A modern day "Strange Fruit". Chilling, graphic, heart wrenching. But we have to face that this was and in some ways still in existence in terms of racial tension. Many people want to act as if racism never truly existed, but the cold harsh reality is that it is responsible for countless numbers of deaths and it is still a major problem today.

This song means a lot to me! I have spent the majority of my life trying to hang myself with the rope that I have created. Thank God for my family. They have held me up and refused to let me die. I'm still shopping at that damn tree but I wouldn't even be able to swing the axe if not for my family and I know they are standing next to me everyday chopping just as hard. Family is all. Even if you weren't born with a good one you can make one.

Got snagged by this melody a few months back - understood the lyric “rope around my head” thought it was a suicide theme - every time it played randomly on the music feed - it stopped me in my tracks and cried turn up the volume. Decided to give money for it. Then watched the vid. Cannot watch without tears streaming - hits a deep place of shame.
