  • The Kreisorchester Borken, with its conductor André Baumeister / @andrebaumeister , performed this composition as part of the 33rd commemoration day of German unity.
The composition "Symphony of Freedom - We Are the People" is a symphonic poem describing the German people's idea of freedom and the reunification of Germany in 1989. Quotes from the national anthem of the former GDR repeatedly permeate the musical arc, interrupted by the ever louder calls of "We are the people" urging towards freedom.
World-famous audio quotes from Walter Ulbricht, John F. Kennedy, Willy Brandt, and other great politicians on the creation and fall of the Wall awaken memories in the listener of one of the saddest parts of German history but also of the unbridled joy of the peaceful revolution that led to the reunification of Germany.
The work leads inevitably to the German national anthem arranged and orchestrated in an extraordinarily contrasting manner. Fast sequences of notes in the woodwinds reflect the hectic and excited atmosphere of the first hours of the opening of the Wall until an unmistakable organ sound confirms the new chapter in German-German history like a marble pillar. Enriched with impressive choral singing, the grand finale with orchestra and organ resounds at the end, echoing the hope of freedom for the German people.
The composer Guido Rennert was born in Saxony and is a child of the reunification of Germany. His passion and joy, with which he realized his composition from a wind orchestra's broad spectrum of sound colors, is unmistakable.
