I think if Van Gogh were to hear McLean's "Vincent" (great song, I admit) and this side by side he would sympathize more with the sincerity and straightforward love exuded by Jonathan.
@@brianheffron3686 That's okay. It was a half-hearted comment. But hey, check out my "Jonathan Richman Speaks (NOT!)" video and you won't hear anything at all!
I remember a snarky review of this era saying something like “The problem with Richman now is typified by the fact that he seems blissfully unaware Van Gogh *was* called an asshole…”
@Ken Lieck ... Yeah, Pablo Picasso I liked. But the way John-John does this song, not so much. It sounds like weird background music intended for a LBQT/Gay Pride Rally. Too much swishy-n-swaying, and his lyrics go nowhere. No, .. just no. John-John got that Pablo-Picasso song right and he should've stuck with that approach. Nobody wants to get called "Asshole!" when they're hustling the hot chick at the local bar. ;---/)
@@madjack3956 That was a common reaction when he abruptly changed his style - and furthermore refused to play the old stuff live! (See my comment about the snarly review) It’s a long story, but worth looking up on Wikipedia or wherever…
He's the Best. We are from the Same Hometown. Saw him in the Coffee shop one morning. Couldn't even speak to him.

Coolest guy who ever lived!
See jojo. Worth the trip

If they were side by side he would only be able to hear one of them!

I never realized until watching this video how much David Robinson looks like Aaron Rodgers during his mustache phase.
It's not David Robinson. he was long gone from Jonathan territory by then. This is Johnny Avila.
He needs some black on his sweater so its cooler. His neighbours don't like him.
LOL! WTF is this?!
Check out Jonathan Richman’s earlier song “Pablo Picasso”. That’ll help you understand…
