Lyrics
Midnight to six man
For the first time from Jamaica
Dillinger and Leroy Smart
Delroy Wilson, your cool operator
Ken Boothe for UK pop reggae
With backing bands sound systems
And if they've got anything to say
There's many black ears here to listen
But it was Four Tops all night with encores from stage right
Charging from the bass knives to the treble
But onstage they ain't got no roots rock rebel
Onstage they ain't got no roots rock rebel
Dress back jump back, this is a bluebeat attack
'Cause it won't get you anywhere
Fooling with the guns
The British Army is waiting out there
An' it weighs fifteen hundred tons
White youth, black youth
Better find another solution
Why not phone up Robin Hood
And ask him for some wealth distribution
Punk rockers in the UK
They won't notice anyway
They're all too busy fighting
For a good place under the lighting
The new groups are not concerned
With what there is to be learned
They got Burton suits, ha, you think it's funny
Turning rebellion into money
All over people changing their votes
Along with their overcoats
If Adolf Hitler flew in today
They'd send a limousine anyway
I'm the all night drug-prowling wolf
Who looks so sick in the sun
I'm the white man in the Palais
Just lookin' for fun
I'm only
Looking for fun
I'm only
Looking for fun - Hudba
The Clash, simply the best band ever.
Husker Du.
This is one of my favorite songs by the clash love it 😀 😍 ❤
@@herbertrichard614 - Mmm, love me some HD for sure!!!! "Metal Circus" and "Zen Arcade" rule!!!
I'm a little late (in nyc) but remembering the legend Joe Strummer on the day we lost him (Dec 22, 2002), listening to one of his favourite songs ❤❤❤
I sure hope Joe's mural is still up in the LES!♥️
Fantastic song from when the youth of the day realised that sticking together was actually a better idea than allowing themselves to be divided. The music of 1977-1982 will never be topped. Punk, ska, mod, 2 Tone. I didn't realise how lucky we were.
You are so right 77-82 was an incredible time foe music
Me , I was 17 to 22 . It was freedom ,plus tunes.
totally agree
There are bands that are hugely popular. And then there are the bands that actually matter.
I remember when the Clash came out in the 70s, real game changer for me. Thanks guys for being "The Only Band That Matters."
Such a great song... The Clash are one of the greatest bands EVER!
They are the greatest band ever. The only band that matters. They are the culmination of rocknroll. All roads lead to them
Yeah I'm Scottish but this song resonates with me. Brilliant as a 14 year old in my cold bedroom. Friends didn't understand but it was a talking point to have a punk as a friend. All lovely friends and we shared too many giggles. Yes we did
Joe Strummer’s mother was Scottish.
I know you lot like to act special but England and Scotland and for that matter Wales are very very similar in a lot of ways...
@@zay-ju8fb We're a special kind of fukt up
The Greatest Band Ever.
The Clash isn't only the great band. Moreover, it is honest way of thinking about ubiquitois unjustice in world then and today and straight receipe for way of living.
THE MINOR 7 KINGS PMSL. GOOD BUT BETTER OUT THERE
Joint Top with the Jam and Pistols
Los mejores
@Dan Dugan Joe left us way before his time.
Such a massive loss.
Dancing with my seven-year-old in the morning to this!
Don't bother
Play the album

Beautiful man ! God bless Joe ! ☘️ Irish people loved him !
When I check out, I’m having this played, and I’m telling ya they all better sing every word, always loved this song
One of the very first records I ever bought played it to death loved the lyrics ….just goes to show how music brings people together regardless of colour
Best band ever. Best track ever. That's all.
Probably the most important band, of my life. I had a Clash patch on my backpack in Jr High, back in the early 90's.
A good time to be 15/16.
I saw them at the Electric Ballroom and it was... wonderful.
Pure entertainment.
Man Eletric ballroom in Camden...memorabilia
@@jcmagnus One time in the EB, they were supported by Mikey Dread. Probably many times, but I saw him with them only once. The ventilation failed that night and everyone was just soaked with sweat. Walking home (probably aged 16) I was stopped by the Police and questioned. I was utterly soaked and steaming in the cool night air. They thought I'd been in the canal. Aah... Youth slips away.
Forever grateful for this song. One of the first songs I heard that really urged me to question the white-centric narratives I had been raised with. It took me a while to catch on...and I'm still working on it.
Still relevant today great lyrics." Why not phone up Robin Hood and ask him for some wealth distribution"
Today President Biden proposed a $2,000,000,000 rebuild of America. That would be some serious Robin Hood. Especially in addition to the $2T Biden already recently secured for rank and file citizens in this country.
Great song, communist lyrics. Not a fan of that. (But dang The Clash is such a good band!)
@@waltysalamander Truth
@@herbertrichard614 won't even keep up with taxation and increase energy cost. Failed policy just like Obama
@@user-xy3gd4vq8b The price of renewable energy is down 70% to 90% in ten years. How is spending on that not good? Obama cut unemployment from 10% to 5%. And by extending unemployment three times kept people afloat so they could take those jobs. Where is his failure? Glad you listen to The Clash.
remember as 16-17yo with radio held close to my ear between 10-12 pm listening to John Peel and Festive Fifty - that music has stayed with me for 40+ years, my own favourites in order were SLF, Joy Division, Sex Pistols and Clash but complete control in my top 3 songs along with alternative ulster and god save the queen...you can envy the youth of today in lots of ways but not in their music!! the lyrics of white man resonate still now, and every 10 years or so, they shine a light on our society and it's issues
So true we also had the specials, music changes so quick now ,no style or history, sad really.slf ,the jam and throw in the beat the list is endless mate.I’d never change places👊
where is the rest of the song? why have you cut it off half way through?
**Wanna call up Robin Hood, and ask him for some wealth distribution was a line that hit me hard as hell as a young kid from a poor single mother family.
** I thought that was the lyric when I was listening to my dub waaaay back lol
Hope you got all the Real lyrics
Instead of censoring
One of the greatest songs, ever.
My favourite song of all time and my favourite band of all time.❤
remember when I first heard this an it blew me away it was that good, still not diminished 1 little bit over time.
Glasgow Apollo 1980 one of the best I have seen live, strummer legend!!!!
Amazing lyrics.. The Clash was very unique
My favorite song from the clash.
One of the greatest singles ever released by the best band that ever graced this earth.
For everyone asking, rest of the song is against artists who are singing only for money and because of which companies like Vevo earn their profit. That's why they censored it.
I thought it was because they mention hitler.
@@susanmck4632 It's both. Unforgettable, though: "if Adolf Hitler flew in today, they's send a limousine anyway"
I'll buy a copy of the album in support of this song. Its actually tied for my favorite on the album with Janey Jones. And I need another copy anyway. Thanks! Lucky I listened to this today! (BTW I thought they censored it because he mentioned Adolf Hitler...)
fucking hate censorship
How dare the censor the greatest Punk song ever written
The Clash, the Jam, the Undertones, Stiff little Fingers, Steel Pulse, the Selecter, the Specials, ............where have all the wild times gone
Am I the only one here that thinks it a crime to end this classic song halfway through as if the remaining half is dispensible?
Love this song! Totally ICONIC. Amazing band, glad I saw them, back in the day!
This seems to be the resonant song...... pink sleeve.......'Sundown Records' store, Wolverhampton, the one with the listening booth -1978. Reggae meets Verlaine. Danced to this all over the world.....and 45 years on my ears are still ringing.
Awesome to hear your experience, may Tom Verlaine rest in eternal peace. That news beat me up for a few days
I miss rock. Punk was perfect timing, when rock was going soft and disco came along. Punk got us through it. Yes, I know some people don’t think The Clash was punk…new wave, they say…but they were political and became famous enough to communicate their views to the masses. Grunge/alt rock had their roots in punk and saved rock once again. Who will save us now?
This song is one of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame's 660 "Songs That Shaped Rock And Roll."
miss you Dr. Strummer
Easily the best band in history
Subjectivity is ever present!
Ever heard of The Jam?
I'm 13 and one of my dreams is to make films. I want to be behind the screen rather then in front and I feel like if I ever made a movie, I would want to add this song in like 10 times...
+Eric Lamar Will be great to see your works. Good luck man!
Rockkley thanks
+Eric Lamar ...if you like this lot,and you want to make films, find out all you can on Don Letts...cool guy...
I'm 23 and have the same dreams, and this is not the only one by The Clash I would like to use!
I want magnificent seven in a film somehow
I've given specific instructions to my family to play this at my funeral.
If I’m not mistaken, Strummer was so proud of this song it was actually played at his funeral haha.
On "The Top 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list from "The Rolling Stone" magazine, this song was ranked number 340.
Why does this video cut off nearly two minutes before the song is over? It's a four minute track. I can't imagine The Clash, of all bands, to sanction such a dramatic edit of one of their greatest tunes. Strange.
I went to see PIL in Torquay 2023 and John was absolutely brilliant. It was a fantastic experience for me.❤❤
Nice! About time we had a music video of this classic.
Ahh its 2023..And there still wont ever be a more talented, enigmatic, fantastic performer than our Freddie..So missed and still loved.❤
レゲエとパンクがすごく上手く融合しててカッコイイ!!
Awesome 💯
This is the best song ever
Joe Strummer at his very best
Absolute classic
Love the Pistols Stranglers Jam but the Clash were the best punk rock band ever without doubt.
don't forget Crass and Stiff Little Fingers
You forgot The Damned.😎
I'd never seen the official video before -- weird that it cuts out the 2nd half of the song.
Sconosciuta 🎶🏖
This is the greatest song ever. Debate me...
Great song ever ever
love the notting hill and westway shots :)
bellissima........
penso sia tra i 10 più belli dei Clash!!!
amazing song - such a unique sound!
Légende !!!!
Greatness
Happy Birthday, Joe! You'd be 70 today x
Great band!!!!!!!!!!!
great time for me , 1979 Hastings peer 17 ,, back room after gig making splifs till 5-6 am :)
Legends
Saw Them at Bonds....Life changing
🖤💔🖤 Clash Forever.
The clash é mesmo muito foda
Awesome! I was just thinking about The Clash today.
I can smell London in this tune , 77’ in a bottle, drink up kids
I am glad and proud I am older. I witnessed it. Nothing modern can stand up to seeing How Strummer live, yelling in your face. I would give up everything to feel Joe Strummer chastise me again in person. again.
We used to cover this in the band I was in in the mid-80s in France.
fine reminiscence of a great gig, and a bit of sniping at the boneheads. marvellous.
🔥🔥🔥
This was Joe’s favourite clash track so I can’t disagree with him it’s superb
Best
❤
The Clash and Dead Kennedys made me to the person I am now...
Same
Jimmy Page
Much love for that ♥️♥️♥️
The best band ever 😊
this song is the bizzzzzzzzzz,
what the hell, why is the song cut short? missing the best verse!!
Vevo
+Luke Campbell best punk rock u will ever her
make redemption song
1:05 is the best line.
what exactly did he do there?
it worked, but wtf just happened?
"White youth, Black youth, better find a better solution. Why not phone Robin Hood and ask him for some wealth distribution". Favourite Clash song, amazing.
i went to their concert when they came to japan
Happy belated 44th Birthday WMITHP! 16 June 1978 (2022)
Great British song ever ever
Escuché esta canción por primera vez en Trainspotting 2. Me dije: "¡Tiene que ser The Clash porque ése es Joe cantando!". Y resulta que es esta canción tan genial.
Such brilliant song and video, but where's the rest of it
Roots rock riddem baby
BOO! The verses they censored:
Punk rocker in the UK
They won't notice anyway
They're all too busy fightin'
For a good place under the lightin'
The new groups are not concerned
With what there is to be learned
They got Burton suits, huh, ya' think it's funny
Turnin' rebellion into money
All over people changin' their votes
Along with their overcoats
If Adolf Hitler flew in today
They'd send a limousine anyway
I'm the all-night drug-prowling' wolf
Who looks so sick in the sun
I'm the white man in the Palais
Just a'lookin' for fun
Only lookin' for fun
Oh, please mister
Just leave me alone
I'm only
Lookin' for fun
A stone classic.
Why was it so short? They cut out half the song?
Here after 311! This song is relevant today in 2021!
When I finally peg out this is getting played, and by god those present better sing every fucking word
Hopefully by then the Adolf Hitler and wealth distribution parts won't be true anymore :) but this song is legendary, cheers!
The Only Band That Matters
"the only band that matters!"
I wish my ppl that posted music on here would put the damn date in the description. I want to know the exact day this shit came out
Joe Strummer shoes kick ass! 🤟💕
where the heck is the second half of the song?!
Me as soon as I hear the first note "Miiiiiiiiiiid- nigggghht"
😍
Plenty of other versions available though old boy What!
I enjoyed and loved The Clash when I was 14 yrs old 1979. Also I'm from Inverness and I now know that Joe Strummer's Mother was from Bonar Bridge. Bonar Bridge is 3 miles from Clashcoig, Ardgay IV24 3AS. Maybe Joe show the name for The Clash close to The Clashcoig
Wait, did Paul Weller (in his Burton suit) run off with the rest of the song?
TM Fitness 😂🤣
Paul Smith suit if you don't mind .
The Clash. Enough said.
Try the whole song next time! Half of it is cut off.
