Probably because of rainbow meta. You're going to want multiple elements in your dice and ramping is just generally nice. Though I'm more surprised it got popular without the inclusion of Tubby

Eh a lavachurl deck! I've been using one too, but I don't like double geo, especially since his shield for some reason still gets taken when shielded....
So I used manifestation and agent. Manifestation as the clean up. But sometimes lava as last if I want overload early
Also lets me use monster Gamba.
