      @@classicalbum I like the idea and how finely it is done. I also feel one major disillusion: from 6:29 on I can see on the booklet pages Michael has, regrettably, once again failed to restrain himself from reiterating his usual woes and grievances about his elder brother. I assume he may be right in many respects, lack of credits is a fact, but it begins to look as an obsession of his. We already know he's been robbed of gratitude, recognition and probably royalties, but how many more times should we hear the same old story? How I wish they'd reconcile before one's or another's final hour!

    Great to see so many Schenker fans here - he's truly a one-of-a-kind guitar virtuoso. He's been name-dropped and cited as an inspiration by so many world-class guitarists, it's amazing he's not better known outside of guitar circles. I've got all of his UFO, Scorps and MSG records and never tire of listening to Mike rip it up. Love your channel!

    I was drumming in a local band with my late brother on guitar at the time of the first album..My brother had a good friend who was lead guitarist in a great band called Dedringer, they supported Gillan and MSG ..We went to see them at the St George's hall in Bradford..Cozy was a hero of mine so i was thrilled to be sat on a balcony overlooking the stage .Cozy must have noticed i was watching him and gave me a wink at the end..Great gig, great album...good memories..

    Already pre-ordered, I know these albums have been remastered before and are included in The Chrysalis Years 5 CD set (long out of print) which also incorporates the live albums from that period and other extras. I did see MSG with Cosy Powell at the Liverpool Empire 1981, mostly through the hair and sweat of the guy behind me who obviously was in awe of Cosy and never missed a beat on his “air kit” .....good times!

    Was listening to an MSG bootleg when this vid was recommended. Coincidence! Thanks for letting us read most of the booklet. Musically, this is unbeatable, though the second album DOES need remixing - the bass is inaudible. Great that both mixes of Built to Destroy are included. MSG came along when UFO were doing well with Tonka, so we new converts had two great bands to follow, along with Lizzy and Gary Moore, plus the three Purple offshoots.

    Many will find this difficult to digest, but I have never heard Michael Schenker apart from UFO. By the 80's my musical focus had digressed into other genres, so unfortunately, hard rock and metal slipped to the wayside. Bands like Jethro Tull, XTC, Oingo Boingo, Madness, and others took on a more varied appeal. I am only now going back to review and digest artists that slipped through my fingers during my "tunnel vision period". This set looks like just the ticket to enjoy some great rock from one of the premier guitarists of the time. I always utilize Barry's programs and subscriber comments to point the way to artists I missed along the way. Great program, Barry, and I'm looking forward to checking this box out for myself!!

    Saw them a few times, about 40 years ago. Newcastle CIty Hall, Middlesbrough Town Hall. God it seems like a long time ago now. Because it is. Closer to the Germans surrendering at Stalingrad than the present day.

    The live at the Budakan albumin was a real staple for me in the early 80s alongside all of the NWOBHM bands. Got to see MSG at Reading in 1982 when GB was supposed to appear and Gary Barden turned up instead!

    The main attraction for me (already got several versions of the main albums) is the rarer and unreleased stuff. Im sure there still a few live shows out there that could have been added too.

  • @derekclacton
    @derekclacton Před 6 měsíci +1

    Nicely presented repro album covers and the printed inner sleeves are a great addition - my original Assault Attack LP doesn’t have a printed inner and I hadn’t seen that before.
    The booklet looks very good - thanks for taking the time to show this in full - and was probably worthy of a ‘big box’ release imho, to make the most of it - even if that meant leaving out the ‘bonus’ CDs, to keep costs down. We already have much of the bonus material and it’s of limited interest compared to the original albums.

  • @walterevans2118
    @walterevans2118 Před 6 měsíci +1

    Were there some different mix recordings of the tracks on the MSG 2 album recorded in 1981 ? …The reason I ask is because in interviews in 1982 Michael mentioned that the mix down on that record had some problems with Ron Nevison doing the production in the studio…Michael said that in the original mix Ron had left out the bass or it was so low in the mix you couldn’t hear it and that he had also left out one of Cozy Powell’s bass drums . This may have been the reason why the double live album ‘One Night At The Budokan ‘was recorded and released because the band wanted a better sound mix balance for the new songs on MSG 2 in 1981 because on that album they had not been optimised. Maybe these alternative versions in this new release will put things right….On the two mixes of ‘Built to Destroy’ I seem to remember in the original mix the production people had left sound processing off Gary Barden’s vocals and they sounded very DRY in the mix even though the recorded takes of Gary were good….So Aerosmith producer Jack Douglas came on board to re-mix the album in New York…I believe he not only fixed the lead vocals but he also got Derek St. Holmes to re-do some of the lead vocal parts and Jack and Derek were involved in the next MSG live album project. Apparently when the Stateside re-mix of ‘Built to Destroy’ was being done with Michael in NY he was horrified to hear that the original version of the album had been released in the UK without his approval ..So this era had a lot of problems to iron out. ‘Assault Attack ‘ was a brilliant album production by Martin Birch but live Graham Bonnet has problems despite being a fantastic vocalist…But that’s another story.

    I've just been getting into Michael Schenker's playing. I'm likely to order this and the UFO Complete Studio Albums 1975-1986 sets very soon! Is It Loud Enough seems far superior to picking up the now overpriced Original Album Series or The Chrysalis Years sets. If I want the One Night at Budokan, however, I guess I'll have to look elsewhere.

    Shame there isn’t a stand alone release of the rarities. I have the EMI reissues from a few years ago and this box set is kind of redundant.
    Still, a nice collection. Should’ve had the two live albums from this period included. But hey, maybe the next time!
    Still, a great collection for a newbie.

  • @markkaminski4496
    @markkaminski4496 Před 6 měsíci +1

    In a way a bit of a rip off as pretty much or the tracks on disc 5 and 6 are on the first 2 of the 2009 remasters as bonus tracks, and the live bonus tracks from the original ones are not in box set as only studio stuff 😬 so still need the original 2 to have the live stuff , but as said the booklet looks great and disc 6 have the tracks not on the 2009 ones, a few like radio edits are a waste of time. But be good to have in one neat package.

    • @jeffreybrady927
      @jeffreybrady927 Před 6 měsíci +4

      To me the best Scorpions album was Lovedrive which Michael played on. Having seen Scorpions and MSG multiple times Scorpions were better rehearsed and have tunes with better hooks .The musicians with Michael Schenker were better than Scorpions and with Michael playing lead and his solos and also in the States playing smaller venues. If Scorpions were playing an arena and MSG was playing a small hall or club I would choose MSG every time. For that matter if they were playing the same sise venue I would choose MSG. Not that into comparisons am a huge fan of both band

      No way is he inferior, early Scorpions was great as well, but Michael is a bonafida axe hero he may have gone through a few weird look dress hats etc but no no way inferior.
