      the thing I think that strikes the hardest is the wording. The use of "can't" instead of "won't." I've always thought that was an interesting choice. It's almost accusatory. This interview gave some insight into that.

    I lost my mom to cancer when I was 12. 25 years later, I still think about and miss her every day.
    Now I see her spirit alive in my daughter and that makes me cherish every second we spend together even more.

    My beautiful mother is in a hospital bed now fighting the last fight of her life against lung cancer and end stage c.o.p.d. She's also battled M.S for the last 22 years. I heard this song and it brought on the most intense, powerful emotions. It feels as if it were written about her. Nothing more put into words and music feelings that all too many of us feel through the loss (or impending loss) of a parent but find hard to express. And i'm thankful....

    • @jchinckley

      czcams.com/video/KLjgBLwH3Wc/video.html maybe that video can give you a new/different perspective on/about your MS. I hope you see it and I hope it helps somehow. BTW, I lost my mother to a rare (very aggressive) form of lymphoma type cancer at the beginning of 2013. It was heartbreaking because she had been living in good health with her sister for a decade and had just been home for less than a month when we all (including her) found out about it and she was gone less than 2 months later. It is still hard sometimes when I think about it. So I very much identify with both this song (God Went North) and Nothing More's song "Jenny" (as a family member was also diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and went through a time period that was for us, as a family, simply horrific).

    Their music is way above the norm... So enriching, deep, and full of reality. I love this album for so many reasons... It definitely helps when you feel you're the only one with these realities to know someone else has been there and you're not the only one.... Beautiful and powerful!

    By far my favorite song by Nothing More. The raw emotions that are captured in the performance on this track reach those who have experienced loss in their lives. This is a masterpiece in my opinion and it hits me every time I listen to it.

  • @samucross
    @samucross Před rokem

    I don't cry where I feel like most people do in this song. For me, it's the "keep holding on" that gradually gets drowned out by the choir. From the perspective of the one dying, they're leaving Earth to "ascend" in whatever way they see that, but the person remaining, they're shouting into a void, not knowing that what they're saying isn't being heard. That's such a heartbreaking thought that has always got to me since I first heard this song a few years ago. Also, I would recommend the song "Eiley" by Too Close To Touch for another sad story of loss.

    my father is not doing the best with his conditions so when I heard this song I felt similar to the directed audience of it. I wish the interview was longer though because he said he was losing faith as she was gaining it but he never said how he felt afterwards.... whether he believes or not. We have a faithful family but we don't blame our struggles on God. We pray that what's in store for us is much better than what we experience now.

    Before I was always mildly religious, I prayed alone, I didn't go to church, but I had my relationship with God and that's all it needed to be, but I lost that when I got Cancer at 21, I didn't blame God but I sat in a bed and asked why. What did I do to deserve it. What had I done that was so terrible to have to endure this kind of suffering and I talked with another very logical friend of mine and he said everyone tries to put a God or a higher power on things, for some people it works and it helps. But honestly the world is a giant heap of chaos we cant control. There's no plan, no end goal, its just the daily lives of every single being acting in motion.
    Otherwise you have to conclude God is evil. How can God watch the world suffer and only act in small minuscule ways. How can devastation and evil be so rife unless there is no higher power.
    He said, life has a lot to offer, not everyone is going to have the same experience. It's just random.

    I love this song in so many spiritual levels. It hit me right in the feels specially because I know how serious her conditions are. With my dad also. It sucks big time. When you can only do so much yet isn't enough. This song doesn't help me to get better. Makes me more depressed but keeps me in check to not do anything stupid. But to sing to this song and cry my eyes out because I feel so powerless against not only my problems but having to deal with the fact that your parents won't be long forever. It sucks that when you grow up. You grow more aware, and the worse is to have to deal with the loss of the ones that gave you everything. Man life is so beautiful yet so evil. It's an evil we all love to enjoy. But man.

      Jesus never promised us a good life here in this world, but said "In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world." We live in a fallen sinful world but Paul in the new testament said "if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world." He was saying if your living for Christ just to have a good life here in this fallen world then your going to be very disappointed, We follow Jesus because we love Him and He has promised us a place with Him in Heaven and the new earth. The life to come. If anyone told you that Christianity was going to give you your best life now, you can mark them down as a false prophet just by looking at Jesus's disciples. All but one of them went to their bloody deaths claiming they had seen Jesus risen from the dead. Most people explanation for the origin of Christianity is that the disciples made up a story so they could spread Jesus's message, but that explanation doesn't make any scene. If your willing to die for something, you obviously believe it. When a terrorist blows himself up, no matter how wrong he truly is, he's obviously sincere about he's belief. So Jesus's apostles had to truly believe what they were dying for, which means they were truly convinced they had seen Jesus risen from the dead. When most religions are willing to lay down their lives for something, its for an ideology they had heard from someone else, and that ideology could be true or false. The disciples were dying for something they SAW. What convinced so many people that they had seen a resurrected Jesus. You can probably explain one or two of them away as being crazy, but all of them. You can think about it all you want but there's no other explanation for why they all had that same level of confidence, even to the point of death, than they actually saw Him. Which means if Jesus did what He said He would do when He said He would rise from the grave on the three day, then you can believe there's a better life to come when He said there is. Just believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. God bless.

    anybody got a solid definition for the term "go north" or for here "went north"? The term went south usually mean something went bad. One would naturally think since north is opposite of south, it would be a good thing. Well the overall tone of this song says completely otherwise. Thoughts?

      It's not "went north", its "God Went North." Its a full sentence. Go north isnt an idiom. It refers to God leaving, being somewhere else. He also says "it may feel like God went north, and left you to be." If that doesnt convey the meaning of the sentence to you in total I've no clue what will.
