    Ok y’all, listen up:
Percussion includes anything you hit to make the sound, which includes piano, bc the strings are hit with hammers, not plucked.
Saxophone is a woodwind bc it has a single reed, instead of a mouthpiece. The flute/piccolo is the only exception to this woodwind vs. brass rule.
Oboe is a double reed woodwind, and is quite difficult to play. And it’s sister instrument, the *English Horn* , is my pick for best instrument to hear in a soundtrack. Look it up, it’s haunting💕

    • @wolfiemuse

Saxophone player here for 12 years:
-The reed needs to be wet to make sure it doesn't crack. It also allows it to vibrate, which in turn makes the sound. You don't need to slather it in spit dw, just hold it in your mouth for a min or two lol.
COULD do it w regular water but the reed ends up in your mouth anyways, so doesn't matter much
    - Saxophone IS a woodwind even though it's made of brass, cause the wooden bamboo reed is the whole reason it can make noise :)

Although humans have never had success teaching an entire language of ours to an animal, the one we got to understand the most words? Dolphins. They can grasp present and past tense. They can't understand future tense, but still. You can straight-up ask a dolphin about past actions and they can recall and answer. (And also one of the dolphins at the Monterey Bay Aquarium lies and says he didn't do anything wrong regardless of what he actually did. Perhaps we've taught them TOO well...)

Easter- or Eostre, as the Pagans spell it- is yet another one of those holidays that Catholics and Christians… shall we say _“borrowed?”_
It’s a fertility celebration, which is where the Eggs and Rabbits come from. In a nutshell, Spring, which when everything is born, or comes back to life after the cold, dark, dead of Winter.

It was an attempt to get pagans onboard with the Jesus.

    • @flintlock17
      @flintlock17 Před 11 měsíci

Easter isn't borrowed from pagans, that is just a modern myth that comes from social media. The holiday amongst Christians is really called Pascha, so its true name is not an adaptation of the pagan Eostre. It being called Easter in the West DOES come from Eostre, but because Eostre was a time period on the calender, not a specific day and Easter fell during this time on the calendar. As well, it was not just an attempt to change something from pagan to Christian. What the Christian Pascha celebrates is an objectively Christian event that we think actually happened, its not just a Christianized version of a pagan story. And it falls on a pagan holiday because literally every single day ever is a holiday to some pagan out there. It would be impossible to establish a holiday on a day that isn't a holiday to some pagan. And it doesn't even always fall on this same day, this "pagan holiday." The date for Pascha is different every year for Christians, and even then there are two different dates. Orthodox Christian Easter (Pascha) and Western Christian Easter rarely fall on the same day. The rabbit is a thing that, yes, does not come from Christianity. Orthodox and Catholic Christians (the original Christians) typically don't use easter bunnies, at least in official capacities such as Church celebrations. Eggs come from an Eastern Christian story in which Mary Magdalene went to dine with the emperor, and brought a basket of eggs as a gift. She tells the emperor about the resurrection of Christ, to which he replies that the story is as likely as all the eggs changing color. Right as he finishes speaking, all the eggs in the basket turn blood red. This is why originally, Easter eggs in Eastern Christian celebrations were only red, not many colors. This story specifically isn't necessarily one that absolutely happened, but it is the traditional origin of Christian easter eggs.

For the naps thing, humans used to sleep twice a day. One at night and a smaller one at like 2-3
basically humans would do all their work the first half of the day, sleep, then spend the rest of the day/night just hanging out or eating the shit they caught
but because of the 9-5 Capitalistic system, you can't do that anymore. almost no one gets enough sleep at the end of the day
also fun fact its kinda still a thing in spain, where from 2-5 in smaller towns all the shops will close, evryone will just go home to eat lunch and have a nap
then from 5 onward the next shift of work happens

So Easter might be an Old German word resurrection. The easter bunny may have been introduced to America via German immigrants. Upon further research it was a egg-laying hare called “Osterthase” or “Oschter Haws.”
Its around the same time as the Spring Equinox so a lot of people now celebrate Easter of a time of renewal and fertility. 🤷‍♀️

21:47 Idk about orchestra, but in band, 1st chair gets the main melody pieces and the solos. I was first chair trumpet when I was in band so I always got all the really difficult and loud pieces, whereas 2nd chairs got the accompanying melodies and basically played a "backbone" piece for the 1st chairs.
Just for anyone who was curious about "chair ranks" lol

I like how out of the both of them Ethan was the one who got the identification of the saxophone correct a saxophone is a woodwind for the reason he said it's because the mouth piece or the reed is wood which makes it a woodwind a brass instrument would be a trumpet because the mouth piece is metal not wood which wood make it a brass instrument not a woodwind like a saxophone.

1:06:23 Story time: I walked into my kitchen once when I was a teenage lass, and saw a plate of bite sized fudge squares, beckoning me as they basked in the light from over the kitchen sink. Excitedly, I grabbed one and popped it into my mouth, ready for a sweet treat that can’t be beat.
It was not a sweet treat.
It was chopped up, raw deer liver that my mom was gonna cook up for the dogs.
I’d say that’s the worst flavor to get when you’re expecting chocolate.

Oboe and basson soaks their reeds in water, clarinets and sax's just keep them in their mouth, it's about the vibration that it needs to be wet

  • @MuffinTunes
    @MuffinTunes Před 3 měsíci

33:36 Hi, master clarinet player here! We have to soak our reeds (the little cane piece we force vibrations with our air speed every time) in water or saliva so the reed can become more flexible.
There are a few preferences with water or saliva, where a small vial of water is always dependable to soak in if our mouth is dry. For convenience, we can use our mouth for the same purpose.
Double reed instruments (oboes and bassoons) need to use water, they have two reeds to soak which are held together with string. Us single reed instruments (clarinet and saxophone) have it pretty easy! 🤗🎵

I cannot consume ranch plain because of that.

The first chair of each instrument is the "best" player. You usually audition and yes they lead their group and get the solos. And it is a tuning at the beginning of the concert though it does kind of signify everyone is tuned and ready.

From someone who used to play saxophone, it is absolutely a woodwind, and you "lube it" or wet the woodwind with your spit because it's easier. Easier than having a little pot of water next to you the entire time since it is not as crucial. But with things such as the oboe it does actually need that wetness to be more consistent, so you have a small pot of water with you. I may absolutely be wrong but this is the information I learnt from my old saxophone teacher.

    Soooo
I took a physics class in College and here's the thing:
What Ethan is retelling is a common lie that can get you killed. You can't open the door under water, especially with modern cars due to the way they're made.
If at any point you find yourself in a body of water, you roll the window down immediately, take off your seatbelt, and get the fuck out of the car before it goes under if possible.
It can take up to several minutes for a car to fill with water and hit the bottom of a given lake or river etc, and by then you may have panicked and used up your air and started to suffocate.
Just yknow, some advice. You can also find videos of first responders and firefighters explaining similar things & more in depth too.
