I've got a new level of respect for James Cameron after this interview. I love his enthusiasm for what he does.
He has always been a man of great vision, one of the absolute greatest in Hollywood. Every time he makes a movie he breaks barriers and set a new bar for everyone else to follow. If you don't count Piranha 2 (which is his first film actually, but not 100%), Terminator is his first film. before that he worked on special effects on some movies (for example Escape From New York) And he wrote the script for Rambo II. Ever since he started directing his own movies, he has always pushed the envelope. Just see behind the scenes on "The Abyss", holy shit. That is maybe the most difficult shoot of all time.

Say what you will about the merit of this movie, but when I saw this movie in theatres, my jaw was on the floor because of the environments. I mean, the floating mountains and glowing plants? Breathtaking!

I am fortunate one, have visited Disney world's PANDORA in THE WORLD OF AVTARS at Orlando.
Truely amazed and still I can't imagine how this atmosphere was created .😮
I met him while working at Disney in 2011! He was staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge while working on blueprints for this part of the park. He's a super nice, intelligent guy and really inquisitive and curious when it comes to anything Disney.
What I don't understand is how we got this before we got Star Wars Land.

Lock Shock Barrel I think I read something a while back where Disney signed the deal with Cameron thinking they could cash in. When the movie came and went and the enthusiasm died down Iger and Disney didn't want to do it but Cameron pushed them. It looks like Disney didn't spend as much because It doesn't look as big. I would assume that they compromised on a fairly small piece of the park. It looks cool and it gives people something to do if they like avatar. But I think it's a loss that Disney is willing to take.
On the issue of Star Wars land, this deal was done long before the acquisition of Star Wars. With that land my hope is that it will be more along the lines of a diagon alley feel at universal or totally immersive. YOU GET TO GO INSIDE THE FRIGGIN MILLENNIUM FALCON!

This was basically a joke. I mean I'm surprised that we hadn't gotten any Star Wars theme parks in the past even if it wasn't connected to Disney Parks. They do have the Launch Bay and Star Tours at Disney but Star Wars should be so much bigger than that. Its just a bit weird that it's taken them this long to come to their senses that Star Wars deserves a lot more love.

Hopefully the river ride will use the same ride system as Pirates Of The Caribbean in Shanghai Disneyland because that is one of the most incredible rides Disney has created to date. The set pieces, projection screens and animatronics were all top notch.

I've seen on-ride footage of their version of Pirates and I have to agree - it looks like one of the most amazing experiences in any park today!

Ever since the movie first came out when I was still in Elementary school, I've always wanted to be an Avatar! I absolutely love the movie and I cannot wait to visit Walt Disney World to see this omg!!

Kind of disappointed that the banshee ride is just a VR experience... I was hoping for an actual dark ride with screens, physical sets, and animated stuff... Like the Wizarding world rides at Universal... oh well...
Don't sell them out just yet. One video showed us a physical banshee that someone could ride on. Years ago, there was also a leaked floorpan of a ride building, and there was 4 huge screen rooms. Plus, another recent photo showed those ride vehicles stacked up on layers. So I'm guessing you start there and at some point it will extend out and really immerse you into the flight in front of a 3D screen.
They said it was gonna be like Sorain with 3D glasses, and Disney settles with nothing but the absolute best. They go above and beyond when working on their park rides and such.
And besides, those weren't VR goggles. Those were 3D glasses.

It's not VR, it's a completely different kind of 3D motion simulator ride, but it's kinda hard to describe exactly what it is to the public so they're just calling it VR.
It won't disappoint. Can't really say more specifically......but I will say it isn't just a VR experience and it is a ride that isn't meant for the elderly, small children, so on, because it is pretty intense.
Going to Disney in September. I cannot wait to see this!

It's an amazing idea that Disney has and it will grow with the movies. It still feels to me that they had to think quick with Wizarding World taking over at a rapid pace.
I still don't know if this is the right answer to rival that, since that's what it looks like. I think something a little bigger like Marvel or Star Wars would have been able to be its rival.
I agree completely..I just got back from a beautiful vacation in Central Florida..my girlfriend and I did Universal Resort and I must say Volcano Bay is going to be something to recon with. However both parks will have a great summer I'm predicting.

The preview the little they show in the video clip looks great! I cannot wait to visit this October. You get two completely different experiences day to night. A full submersible VR ride Awesome!! Animal Kingdom was a half day themed park. Now will be a full day experience! 😊
The one thing I'm most curious and excited about Pandora is the Flight of Passage ride. Not just about the overall experience, but the ride technology as well. Hopefully, Flight of Passage will represent a new benchmark in thrill rides.

Hello I hope you are having a nice day. This is a great positive story to cover! I really love the movie Avatar. Such a beautiful place with interesting characters. The fact that Pandora is at Animal Kingdom is pretty great. I learned that our imagination is here for a reason, anything is possible and to care for the planet. Caring not only just environment of the planet but also to the people in this planet. This is great entertainment! The food! The drinks! The virtual ride is great especially for those who are afraid of rollercoasters and also the NaVI river ride looks very mystical and tranquil to the eye. Thankyou for sharing! God Bless!💙💙💙

I really don't understand why people seem to be so wow'ed by the "floating mountains" in the park. It doesn't exactly look like they're free floating in the air when they're tightly connected like that.

Ha that reminds me of how I always wanted to visit Alfea from Winx Club and finally got to when I went to the location in Rainbow Magicland. I wanted to go on the ride "Pianeta Winx" (which is the only Winx ride there) but I remember my parents said that they had a bad opinion about dark rides since they went on "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey".
You know a movie is fucked up when it takes the studio longer to make the movie than it takes Disney to make a freakin theme park about it.

this ride was absolutely beautiful . it took my breath away but not because it was fast or gave me an adrenaline rush but because it was so stunning . the very first thought i had when i first saw the visuals were - holy hell , is this was heaven looks like ? the only complain i have about it is that when i first went into the room to wait for it to start and they gave us a background history on the ride ( like what our " mission " was ) i guess part of the script was the guy on the tv saying that he had to go after a fake alarm went off . it was sixteen people all alone in a room without a guide just standing up for 25 minutes exactly . other than that it was so stunning words can't explain how beautiful the ride was . i'm sorry i'm rambling but damn it was well worth the wait and i strongly suggest you get a fast pass for it since all the waits will be at least two hours .
Going in July, I cannot wait to visit the new attraction I love the movie avatar and I know I will love Pandora the world of avatar.
I believe this ride is coming to Animal Kingdom, not Magic Kingdom as is stated above.

Camilla Moe it will be in Animal Kingdom, somewhere in the area originally planned for Beastly Kingdom(which never came into existence, although some designs in the park have references to it(example: there's a sign that, among some dinosaurs and normal animals, has a dragon))

2 in Animal Kingdom. 6 in all of WDW. Expedition Everest and Primeval Whirl. Dinosaur is pretty fast and jerky as well, though, as is Kali River Rapids.
I wouldn't really count Dinosaur as a roller coaster ride though. it's a dark ride EMV..

just one more reason i need to go to WDW asap 😪😭 they really are the best at themeing their parks. they're such well made, high quality, immersive environments that it's easy to imagine yourself in that place for real lol. i wouldn't have guessed something like that was possible either, but that's also what people said to walt about everything from snow white up to disney world and then he always ended up proving them wrong! that's why i'm not surprised they pulled this new pandoraland off so flawlessly 👏🏼☺️💘

I can imagine that Avatar is his special pet project. Its an original property, land, world, language, characters that he has been developing since the 90's. Its the problaby the project that he wants to be rememberd for. Besides, he has enough money so he can do what he wants

Look at it this way, Meg -- new attractions ALWAYS have bugs that take some time to work out (I say this as a former Disneyland cast member who has seen it many, many times -- I was there for the Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye opening, and it took them a couple of years to get that running reliably -- down times ranged from 2 minutes to 2-3 hours on average, and the next weekend after it opened, it was closed that ENTIRE weekend because of stress fractures they found because they didn't properly design the vehicles in the first place, and they ALL had to be retrofitted to be safe and not just run off the track). By the time you go, those bugs in Avatar Land should be worked out (there still may be occasional breakdowns, as all attractions experience from time to time, but nowhere NEAR as many as there will be in late May/early June when Avatar Land opens).
There's also the fact that, as a brand new land, Avatar Land is going to be PACKED for its first year or two. We're talking 2-3 hour waits, most likely.
So while it may stink to have to wait a few years, your first experience is likely to be BETTER than those who see it first.
And as you said, there's always CZcams. I'm guessing (based on the flight goggles thing) that the Banshee ride will be 3D and may not translate so well to video (if Disney even allows video on that attraction -- but even if they ban it, I imagine that SOMEONE will get a video up on CZcams), but you'll at least be able to get a taste. And the upcoming videos of the boat ride (forgive me for not knowing the name of the attractions off the top of my head) will likely be pretty spectacular to watch.
When you DO get to go, I hope you have an amazing time. While I've had my quibbles with Disney Parks, and am not a big fan of Avatar (the movie), Disney has the potential to make a sub-par movie into a world-class attraction. Time will tell if Avatar Land is in this group. So I am really hoping for the best, and when your kid(s) are old enough, I hope you (and they) are amazed at what you will see.

For many people living in mundane or rural areas the movie was pure escapism. More-so if you have a handicap or condition like the character.
I'm sorry but I really cannot be the only one completely underwhelmed by all of this. This looks like the exact same type of foliage and atmosphere found in Animal Kingdom but with a few alien life forms scattered around it. The floating mountains looks like an archway you can walk under rather than the mass spectacle of objects floating in the sky. No matter how hard Disney tells me that this area fits in with the spirit of Animal Kingdom, I just don't buy it. Forever devastated that Beastly Kingdom was replaced with this.

Maybe I'm weird, but I saw Avatar and...although it wasn't terrible, I just couldn't quite see what all the fuss was about _as a movie._ Yes, the visuals were groundbreaking (especially in 3D), but the movie itself was kind of average, to me. I had the same reaction to Jurassic World: Decent movie, but 1.6 billion at the box office? I just don't get it (The first Jurassic Park was a MUCH better movie in virtually every way).
Anyway, I digress. Still looking forward to seeing this at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

This is Animal Kingdom, Animal Kingdom is more like a wildlife preserve park, minimal rides, the attractions focus mainly on the animals and nature. There are 3 other parks with a lot better rides.. of course, I don't discount Everest..

I was wishing to see Billy Paxton on some of the Avatar sequels, I knew I'll see him in at least one more Cameron movie, makes me so sad,first Jim Horner and now Billy, nothing will be the same.
