As a broad explanation, no the world in the movie did not run on chess games (at least before the war, after the war the God put into power rewrote the laws of the world to force people to settle conflict by playing games rather than shedding blood), the chess is just a representation of how the main characters fought the war of their world by manipulating all the other sides like pieces on a chess board.
Also the name "Imanity" is a reference to the word Immunity.
This series is a masterpiece, especially the movie.
There is very little chess in this show, it’s more of a theme than an actual story aspect (at least in the anime so far)
No Game No Life Zero is the best animated movie I've ever seen, he didn't beat her, he loves her and she loves him. They both are lovely boy and girl.

1st of all, the guy is not a wife beater. Both of them are from different sides in war and the girl appear in front of him when he agonised by the facts that he sacrificed someone else. After that, both of them join forces to end the war.
The said war is a world war where every 16 races in the world fight each other to reign supreme, by getting Suniaster, the proof of one true god of that world
N no. the anime n movie is not about chess game. At the end of the war, Riku (the guy) body was destroyed when he want to take the Suniaster. Therefore, he prays to God of Game (which even he didn't realised if that god exist or not) to have someone take the Suniaster and ending the war for good. Then, God of Game, Tet, himself appears and take the Suniaster
Being the One True God, Tet forbid every malicious thing like murder, war, robbery and he make the rule to settle everything with game. You want to rob someone? Play a game with them. You want to conquer other nation? Play a game with them.
At the end of the movie, it was revealed that Riku played a chess game with Tet. With help of Shuvi (the girl), they make a last move against Tet (which they thought they won, but Tet counter them by making it's a draw)
Tet then declared that humanity in that world don't have gods like other race and even confused how humanity was there and how they still survived in a world where they are the weakest and don't even have magic. So by the end of the war, Tet gave the humanity a proper name for their race, Imanity
Fast forward to Ep1 of the anime, Tet played a chess game with Sora and Shiro (arguably Riku and Shuvi's reincarnation in our world) and he lost against them. Then he bring them to his world to continue their game... And that's how the anime started
The plot of movie is a war between 16 different races that have destroyed all the planet, each race has a god that created them, this gods fight for for the title of true god, the humans, the weakest race is involved in this war trying to survive.
The main character Riku meets Schwi and have their own story, bla bla bla... the two try to end the war and they achieve it but they die and the throne is taken by the god of the games born of the imagination of Riku, this god changes the into one in which all is resolved by playing games.
In conclusion this is not a chess anime but more like a game anime, also the movie has almost no relation to games and is there to explain how the world of games was created
You're trippin' asf. They're both from different races, the guy has thousands of reasons to kill Schwi the moment he saw her but can't. That's why he's 'beating'(he's just destroying things, didn't even touch her at that time) her at the start. They got to know each other and loved one another throughout the movie.
I'm more than a year late but all I can say is you better not say shit when you serious don't even know shit.
To explain this anime in more simple term it's the game of gods where human is the pawns
this is not a chess anime. chess is shown as theme because it's the representation of a game that you can't cheat on

As a note, this video is focusing on the movie, which takes place BEFORE that was a thing. It specifically focuses on the war that lead up to Tet becoming in charge and rewriting the laws of the world to force people to play games to solve their problems.

Dude sees a video with dragons, angels, cyborgs and all kind of mythical creatures fucking each other up, and he asks if it's a chess anime😂😂. No this is not a chess anime, they played chess at some point but the plot is bigger than that. Otherwise overall this story is really good. You should def check out more of it.
They do use the chessboard to represent things happening though. Sora and Shiro beat Tet at a game of chess and were given the chance to live in a world of games. Riku and Schwi managed to summon the Suniaster, but Riku who thought he had achieved victory, only ended up with stalemate as his body deteriorated before reaching the Suniaster. As a last ditch effort, he irked out a prayer to the god of games, the ultimate gamer to take the Suniaster. This is represented by Riku's last move on the chessboard, rather than checkmating Tet as he had believed, instead forced Tet into perpetual check, thus a stalemate.
Bro, this anime is not just chess....this is just a simple picture..this is not a chess anime...you have to think maturely, I give an example of the olden days, winning a war requires a strategy and strategy is a picture and after having a strategy, war will happen. ..what this animation conveys is about the game that determines between life or death...I think you have to watch this movie to understand...in this amv video it doesn't show the real story because that's why you don't understand.
