It's like I can hear music that isn't there when he is playing. Very musical drummer.
I would hope he plays his instrument in a musical way!!
@@slowfreqsome drummers are plain and don’t have that musicality thought. This guy plays in a unique way
No matter the instrument, when it's on the hands of a true musician, it's like magic.
I really love players like this - you can tell someone is incredibly talented when they can make a kit sound not like a collection of drums and cymbals, but like a single instrument made of a cohesive cluster of sounds. To use piano as an analogy, beginners assign a series of notes to each finger while playing chopsticks, much like a young drummer assigns a series of drums and cymbals to each limb, whereas a master simply recognizes chords and voicings while playing Chopin and allows their fingers to materialize what is mapped out, as this man does with his drums.
Thanks for the kind words!

That 26" with the rivets has great harmonics and the 30" is surprisingly crisp!!!
Oh yeah. That 30" was surprisingly washy.

True! Loved the 26" with the rivets.
What a sales man!! You can use it for a beach umbrella he says. What a guy, I love these videos
That kit sounds amazing.
The second he hit that first kick note I just wanted more. I came for the cymbals, but I left wanting more of that kit.

Love the part where he goes, "You could use it as a beech umbrella if you want to." Amazing sounding cymbals! I really like that deep low dark sound from that 26" on his left! Great drums too!
I can't get enough of watching Steve play. He's a melody maker on the drums. Such an amazing musician. I've never enjoyed a cymbal solo as much as this one.
Watching the technique of these old school guys is inspiring. Makes me want to hop on my kit and try to use it in my own style
It’s the ultimate Millennial kit! Tiny little drums and gigantic cymbals.
psh, my 22x22 bass drum I got like 15 years ago begs to differ haha
Lol
Ba ha ha
@Dr.FrankCoco By what parameters “better?”
Hey I resemble that! Picked up 16” hihats for my birthday on Thursday. Love the wash.
I could listen to your playing for hours!
Cymbals have a very cool haunting type of sound to them……Excellent!!!
OMG! I have a 26” Zildjian heavy ride I bought a very long time ago: a good bargain as it was a special order that the customer never picked up and the music store was happy to be free of it. It sounds good but has limited applications. I had a teacher who had a Fibes kit in black fivel! Never thought I would hear of one ever again. Easy to keep clean with a vacuum!
You should try putting both the 26 inch ones on your high hat stand and see what that sounds like
The subtlety of your playing is amazing. Such brilliant control and deft touch
The 26" Riveted Cymbal sounds Awesome.
The rivet cymbal far right is my favorite overall for pingy ride sound and crashability. For single-purpose riding, the cymbal 2nd from right. I like the nice dry sound that enunciates all strokes, but I wouldn't crash it. But the star of the show is that beautiful 18" bass drum! I really want a drum like that for gigs where there's not enough room.
Wow, I'm pleasantly surprised. I love the hi-hats and the 30" sounded very lovely. I was expecting it to be very washy but with your touch it had such an amazing voice to it. Those cymbals sing beautifully
The way you navigate the hihat and flow around the kit is truly outstanding. Great drummer
Always enjoy watching you play, Steve. They do sound good!
agreed!
Me too
Fascinating!!! I like the 26" with rivets and the 30" the best.
“Ping ping ping”😆
Steve, I think that this has now become my most favorite video of you playing. I have a 26" Meinl that I really enjoy playing in all settings, so I do love each and every one of these Zildjian Cymbals. The kit sounds marvelous and the 15x15 sounds really special in the mix. I always enjoy watching your flair at playing. Thanks and Blessings!
WOW!!! That was Great! Love the kit, the cymbals, your skill, and all your video’s. Thank you many times over!!!😃
Thank You Steve for all you give to the world of drumming!
Now that's what I call a feast of sounds.
This was really cool. As being a Drummer for over 40 years, I really appreciated this. Very nice.
This is one of the smoothest guys out there! Very fun watching this
Really. Thanks for this.
Buddy of mine (recently passed away) had a HUGE (heads) kit and cymbals (Zildjan A). His toms were all huge diameter. Sounded like thunder. As he was passing away, I joked with him "Well, it's your fault, you know... It those huge heads and cymbals you played all these years. They did you in, brother." His reply: "y'know I think you're right?.... worth it. Damn I love that kit."
Thosecymbals had SO many "zones" I could find on them, versatile.
once again, your drums could not be tuned more perfect. Can't get enough of the sound coming off those Fibes.
Lovely sounding kit, thanks for the demo
Thanks Steve I enjoyed that. They sound very good. I particularly liked the 30", surprisingly enough.
What a beautiful sound!!!!!
Great touch too....
I'm not a jazz fan but from a drummer 's perspective it's the ultimate dream as it frees your talent ....superb technique...
Beautiful! Thx for sharing the fun and the story!
Just love this Steve! I own a 30 1/3" A. Zildjian at 5,896 grams wth plenty of edge wobble. I also have a 30" A. Zildjian China with rivets. The funny thing is that I play 7A sticks which looks ridiculous with these. I wish I still had my 26" 1950s Hollow Stamp A. Zildjian Thin Ride that was almost like a crepe and was more of a warm crash than a ride!
Nice Gongs! :)
Great drummer too . I didn't know what " dark " sounded like until I acquired a 24" Dream bliss cymbal . I love the sound . Works in contrast with a brighter " rain forest " ride on the kit . Been running 2 rides lately just for this reason.
This Was Amazing! Thanks Steve!!
You're right as rain about that 30"🤌
I once had 24" A but it never got used,
I gave it away to a youngster with hard and loud ambitions.
I'm sure the cymbal didn't survive very long! 😉
I love small bass drums, they sound very clear. There is never a lack of low frequencies, you can add as much as you want on the remote.
Great kit and GREAT CYMBALS!
I used to own a great Camco drum kit, including a 20" bass, 12" mounted tom, 14" floor tom and 16" floor tom. The snare was a Ludwig Supraphonic 400 chrome steel snare. My favorite ride cymbal was the Zildjian Rock 21 12" heavy ride. It sounded amazing. I played this kit in church for a couple of years, before going off to serve 6 years in the US Marine Corps.
The drums sound beautiful
Wow, those big ol’ beasts sound amazing. I laughed out loud when he first said 17 inch hi hats but man, these are awesome. That kit sounds great too.
Love all those cymbals (didn't know Zildian or anyone made a 30") and the sound of those Fibes. What Steve plays is fabulous. Man, that cat can swing!
great playing...and great tuning on those drums!
I love how menacing the big cymbals are when they vibrate and you can see the metal shaking
wow these all sound great, the drums are killing too
Gorgeous kit, gorgeous player! Bravo!
Lovely sound the cymbals and the kit , nicely played Steve 👍
It's the way you're playing them man!! Brilliant 👏
Thank you, I really like it, I think I have them all, patiently collected through many years of "snuffing" around.
The allien I added to the bunch is a Paiste formula 101 flat ride which is a delight to listen to.
Beside the snare, I truly believe that a drumkit is mainly... Cimbals.
Thanks for the refined and swingy moment.
Take care,
RC
I’ve never seen rides or a pr of hats that large before, I started playing in the sixties. Thanks for sharing!
The only guy I've seen playing hi hats that big is Greg Saunier of the band Deerhoof. He uses them as a crash as well.
@@Darrylizer1I've been not playing for about 10 years, and I couldn't imagine playing cymbals that big. I ran 13" hi hats. 17? That's crash cymbals.
@@Mike-lt6sj Yeah they are! Greg uses them as high hats and crash cymbals. Somehow he makes it work, but it's not for me that's for sure. I play 13" and am quite happy with them.
Loved the sound of the bass drum! And the toms also👌 awesome swing👏
30' Cymbal??!!!😳😳😳 Didn't think they made them that big! The 17' high-hats sounds good!
Love the video creation mr Maxwell!
And LOVE the 17 hats (kind of like all the cymbals, but the hats are gold for me)
Dear god id LOVE to be in the room listening and watching. MASTERPIECE.
I thought it was all going to fall apart on the 30" - but it didn't. It was actually my favourite.
They all sound great. So does Steve (as usual). Very nice post guys!
Keep That Train Rolling...Earth Soul Blues Jazz RocknRoll...
I've never seen cymbals those sizes!! They sound absolutely amazing!!!
And that drumming is top notch, to say the least!!
Fr!
That was amazing!!! The drums and the cymbals sound so well together. 10/10 dude!!!
They all sound beautiful! Very cool!
amazing rides.......thank you to show them.....
I could listen to dude just jive on rides all day
He makes it sound so good! Great playing!
Wooow! Sound crisp and harmonious!
Very cool!! I always liked the old bigger cymbals because of the bell, I found a 26 in a pawn store once and used for a couple years playing rock/metal. After a while it csacked on the edge and eventually a 3” wide by 4” or so chunk came off it looked like someone took a bite out of the cymbal ! Instead of throwing it away, I let my brother, who was a welder at the time, take it to work, and a machinist put it on a lathe and cut ie down. When it was don, the cymbal was about 17 3/4 “
That thing sounded amazing!! Especially the bell!!
I got a lot if compliments on it!
I think those large cymbals were used for orchestral applications!
You were right about that 30". I could see a piano gig. Lol! Jeez, beautiful cymbal.
I've always loved the way those big floppy hi-hats looked.
Great sounds too.
That crescendo build up was magnificent!!!!
great style, amazing playing and tones!
Fabulous hi hats 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾soft and crisp!
fantastic. thanks for sharing it.
Steve, You crack me up. Thanks for this video.
Fantastic demo sounds great.
Such beautiful cymbals! I have a friend with a 30, and I absolutely love it.
Fantastic! Thanks
Those beasts make my 24” Paiste look like a splash! Well done, Maestro 👍
Wow, those all sound absolutely amazing. You should record samples of these for e-drums.
Those cymbals are amazing!
Those giant zildjians rides have the most beautiful tone of all the zildjian rides...Even better than the K's...
Amazing cymbals. Great sound.
I saw that look on you, like that was fun ! you look like you had a blast man sometimes you just got to open up and go crazy and run with it that's kind of what you did you change the way you played those big symbols . I believe those big gargantuan symbols affected the way you played,. I think they gave you a spark of energy and it was interesting.nthey are they're pretty cool...... you know for a certain novelty effect . What I found to be the most interesting was how they affected your interaction with the way you approached and attacked the drums. You're Rudimentary and stick tip control is phenomenal ! As a guitar player I can really appreciate that!
Beautiful sounds. Some of it reminded me of the Stan Kenton Orchestra.
The hats and that 30" ride sound great..had no idea of ride cymbals that big. Biggest diameter ride cymbals I thought were 22" or maybe 24". Would have to have a really big cymbal bag to haul those babies around.
Sweet sounding monsters!!!
My Drum teacher was an old classic jazz guy, god rest his soul!!
Very cool Fibes kit too!
01:47 "Who wants cymbals that big?" ME! I love big pies.
Those all sound great, cool comparison. 👍🏻
I remember those drums, that sound hit me in the 80's. They have a great boing to them.
Great fun ! Love those giants !
That was a great clip. The guy can really play!
I love this sound of cymbals. I miss it in the modern music so much.
What a great sounding kit!
I’m not surprised at all that my buddy Gary Asher found that beautiful Fibes kit. I think these unique kits are just attracted to Gary and they actually find him first. Enjoyed the video. 👍
Cool bass drum sound.
wow those sound awesome, and you are amazing at drums! subscribed and liked!!
Very musical indeed. Thank you for for that fun, Mr. Maxwell. Everything sounds fantastic. As I think about it, it is a very interesting mix of “less is more” ie. the shells and “more is more” ie the cymbals.
Nice sound treatment panels as well. Relatively inexpensive materials but well executed so they are functional but don’t look cheap.
Thanks Steve. They sound great.
I'd love to know the weight and stamps on these. Also, are there pictures of these on your website? I couldn't find any.
