    I've got to say, your daughter presentation about HER goats was very impressive. I know you & your wife must be so proud.
    Moving on, I had to reroof my little cabin after hurricane Zeta blew through couple years ago. We pulled out all the pink insulation & put the 1/2" foam between the rafters & the metal roof & I could feel an immediate difference, even had to turn off the A/C a couple nights, which has never happened. The cabin is in southern Alabama, 80 miles from the coast & I normally run it 24/7 when I'm there. I'm pondering on trying your "safari roof", but afraid it would become a wasp condo. Love your channel, found it looking for plans for a plant pit & found your in-ground greenhouse, still waiting for updates on that, hint hint. Thanks for the entertainment & sharing your vision(s), skills, etc. Cheers

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  Před 2 lety

      Well thank you so much David! We are so proud of her😊
      As for your cabin in AL. Sounds like a great place. I think the safari roof might help but it sounds like your 1/2 rigid foam did a great job as well.
      As for the greenhouse. Oh man, I get so many questions on it and just keep putting off update videos as I like to show progress…. And I haven’t gotten to doing the gabion retaining wall that I have planned for so long🤦‍♂️. Right now it’s just a hot box. But come this fall it’ll be back in full usage. Stay tuned as I will definitely be doing some more vids on it as my wife has started to remind me as well😉👍

    Oh how adorable Joe & Marley, & Mom. What a fun project to do as a family. The little goats are so cute & funny. I can see that Marley really enjoys them & I think Joe does to?
    Congratulations on the new additions to the family. You need to get one of those dogs that are breed to be guard dogs now to protect your little farmstead. Them dogs stay w/the heard & will fight to the death to protect whatever kind of heard you have. Even your chickens. You might think about that Joe. It would watch things while your not there like camping trips that last longer then 2 days. Would be nice to know the animals would be safe when your away or @ night while you sleep.
    Have a great time w/them goats girl. Your amazing to have done all the research to be allowed to raise them right. WTG,
    Chris from Missouri

    When I built my pole barn I was told to insulate under the metal so the metal doesn't rust from condensation.

      Yeah that can happen for sure. But luckily…. Or not so luckily we don’t get dew or much humidity except for monsoon season so condensation is more rare

    I'm curious, what do you do to the milk, if anything before drinking/cooking with it?

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  Před 2 lety +3

      First thing we do is to double strain it through coffee filters. Then we throw it in the freezer which stops any bacterial replication. Then at that point it’s drinkable just as is. But we are also experimenting with pasteurizing some before freezing it for future use. So far the taste from the raw and pasteurized is almost unnoticeable. So if we are using it within the first day or two. We have just been using it raw. But if we are freezing for longer term storage, my wife is pasteurizing before hand.

    Congratulations on the addition to your flock. The improvements to the goat area are impressive. I noticed in the background of your closing statements that the tree is somewhat fenced and being nibbled on by the kids. What are your plans for the goat milk?

      Thanks! It’s been a fun little adventure so far!
      As for the milk. We’ve been using it just like regular milk… with cereal, oatmeal, etc,. But I’ve got plans to try our hand at cheese making very soon.
      I’m not much of a milk drinker. So cheese and maybe some other things like trying it with some soap or lotion, etc,.

    Really happy to see the new additions. Watching the kids leaping around sure remind me of Marley jumping from rock to rock when you were out camping. It is easy to see why she likes goats. Did you folks like goat milk before you got them? This is going to be a great project and she is also becoming quite the on-air talent. Watch out dad, she is coming for your job. Thanks for sharing and always love videos that have the whole family.

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  Před 2 lety +1

      Oh my gosh that’s one of our favorite camp spots! Back then she was all into the ‘parkour’ thing….. but now it’ll be jumping “like the goats” on rocks😂
      As for the milk. My wife and and daughter had tried goat milk but I never had until now. And I’m not much of a milk drinker to begin with…. More interested in doing cheese or soap, etc,. BUT I have to say they Belle’s milk is really good! I was surprised! Tasted very mild, almost simlar to cows milk. So I’m not sure why people will say it has a taste. But then again they are eating mostly alfalfa and not weeds. So I’d guess once we start getting them out and letting them eat tiger stuff it’ll change the flavor a bit.

    Chuckle, I was just commenting on another video of yours about how I wish I knew someone as skilled/resourceful as you around here to make some dog agility equipment like aluminum A-frames and teeter totters to weather better than all wood (and be lighter). Professionally made ones are ridiculously expensive. Anyway, then I saw this video and saw your goat “agility” items and thought it would be better to comment on this vid instead. 😉 The goats have a great area. Looks fun!

    Marley went from the awkward kid in front of a video camera to a veritable creator within a year or so. Dad being a great example will give her the option to become quite an influence to deal with.
