Melaka, or Malacca is a UNESCO World Heritage City on the west coast of Malaysia. Malacca is definitely one of the most important tourist spots in Malaysia, a city built in the 14th center, being under Sumatran, Chinese, Dutch, Portuguese and British rule for centuries.
We visited Melaka because everyone recommended to explore its colorful alleys, majestic temples, delicious food and colorful arts and crafts stores.
On the Harmony street of Melaka you will find a unique place where a Chinese Temple, an ancient mosque and a colorful Hindu Temple wait for their worshippers.
Nearby on the highest point of Melaka an ancient church overlooks the entire Malacca bay, one of the most strategic sea points, connecting East Asia with South East Asia, the Middle East and the West.

There are still portuguese people in here Malacca. The Portuguese Settlement Melaka, or Kampung Portugis, is located a couple of kilometres outside of Melaka city centre in an area known as Ujong Pasir and is home to a small community of around 1,000 people descended from early Portuguese settlers.

9:20 beg to differ. Portuguese maybe nice in Brazil but not in South East Asia. They were the most hated back then in 16th century. As you can see the St Paul church on the hill top were build on the ruin of Malacca Royal Palace after they burn it down post the Malacca conquest. Compare to other european powers, Portuguese was the most vicious towards the locals. When the Dutch came in 17th century, the local kingdoms collaborate with Dutch to expell Portuguese for good in 1641.

The Portuguese were cunning and used trading as the pretext to conquering the place. Their intentions were not good, similar to the Spanish. The Dutch and Portuguese destroyed the port of Malacca, which was before that the biggest trading port in the world,, by stopping trade in Malacca after they conquered it. When the English came, they were no longer interested in Malacca, but were more interested in Penang, which they made their administrative headquarters for Malaya and Southeast Asia.

Hi I don’t want to be nosy but avoid putting your wallets and hand phones on the table while eating near roads/easily accessible. I have seen wallet stolen from the same scenario. The thieves acted very fast and the open area gave them plenty of time and space to run away. They simply come near you and quickly snatched valuables on the table. By the way, enjoy Malacca! It’s a wonderful state.

By the grace of God, most people in Malaysia now can afford at least the cheapest brand of smartphone. So.. yeah... the snatching is not as rampant as when the smartphone was new to the market. If you got snatced, it was probably by a junkie.. need money for a fixed or two. Anyway... we'd rather be safe than sorry. Good advice Marty.

Yes thats true, be extra carefull esp when you are walking along the road. They come on a motorcycle and snatch your handbag from behind. It only takes them a few seconds to do it. I am saying this in general where ever you are in Malaysia.

Islam isn't a different religion than Christianity and judaism. GOD/Allah is the same for all three religions. Muslims believe in Moses, Jesus (peace be upon them) too just don't take Jesus(pbuh) as God rather takes Him as a mighty prophet while Jews don't even acknowledge Jesus.
whether u guys atheists or not eveyone should have minimum/basic knowledge about all religions. We just can't ignore religions because it is the dominant force behind every culture, customs around the world.

The "covered" thing in the ruined church on the hill was the temporary grave of Saint Francis Xavier, a Basque Jesuit priest who came to be known as the "Apostle of the East" or "Apostle of the Indies". He did much to evangelise India, Melaka, parts of Indonesia, Japan and China. He died off the coast of China and was buried there for a while before his body was reburied in that now ruined church you visited. A short while later, in the 1550s, his incorrupt body was taken to Goa (now part of India), where his body has still not decayed. I do wish people wouldn't throw money into that temporary grave in Melaka.
By the way, the sea you saw used to come right up to near where you saw the A Famosa gate. The land beyond that is reclaimed land.
