Great point! I feel the same way, Patti is just unnecessarily melodramatic, she is the Shirley Bassey of the US. She has poor interpretive skills, the original It's My Turn is a ballad and you just have to go with the melody, there's no need to turn it into a church song, the way Patti sang it just lost meaning for me, all those naunces in the original melody got thrown out the window. Diana Ross was just too perfect for this song(she's a classic case of less is more), you don't need a huge voice to be a great singer. On the other hand I believe someone like Gladys or Dionne would have done justice to this song.

The best singer in the Supremes was Mary Wilson.
Diana didn't need that range, she's a classic case of Less is More especially concerning ballads such as this, all those vocal acrobatics become meaningless in the context of such melodic songs, infact the more you belt such songs, the more you lose the meaning therefore Diana's voice is just fine, she's a balladeer.
