    I'm done spending countless hours fooling around with these inverters. There are too many hardware revisions and discontinued models after just a couple of years. Please let me know what you think and if you have experienced similar frustration.

      yea mpp solar is junk thier suppoort is horrible, I had to wait almost 2 months for parts, I dumped em and bought a AIMS inverter, great never a problem since ! Sold off my 2 MPP's and never looked back.

      @@LithiumSolar I went with a AIMS 12kw, I originally had 2 6548's with the parallel cable etc... this was like 2 yrs ago, ... a BUNCH of items in 1 of my 6548's blew up (exploded)... no idea why only using them as 120v... Also the support guy I bought em from in utah was crap, went directly to the mfgr took em 2 MONTH to replace boards etc. was a major pain and major downtime on half of my system decided once I got new boards I installed em and sold BOTH units.(the 6548s) the AIMS 12KW was almost a exact replacemewnt cept I bought 4 Midnite solar chargers (less to go wrong comared to a all in one..) DEFINATELY more $$ as each midnite solar charger was like 650$... but im much more happy and really dont care about all of the battery communication as my midnite solar chargers get all 12 of my eg4 bats to 100% :) (I have a large system, usually pulling in about 70-80 kwh a day on panels.) I dont know about the 10kw aims but omg the 12kw aims... like almost 200lbs ;( Its the difference cause the AIMS in a lot of transformer based.. although I just opened my aims 12kw to replace a fan about a month ago...

      Truly sorry to hear about all you had to go through. I have learnt a lot from watching you.
      If you are looking to give one away, I would accept it, as I simply don't have the resources to buy an inverter at the moment.

      I was beginning to suspect this just from watching other people experience problems. This makes it impossible to add another inverter to an existing system, ruining a lot of the modular / parallel capability for me. I hope the EG4 over several years is a better choice. I really like their 18K 😁. I'm not sure if for me there is any reason other than mobile to go smaller. Right now the only other brand I'd consider is Victron.
      A feature which may be key for me is generator support, e.g. the ability to set a limit on the A.C. power input and monitor the output load to reduce charging and even start inverting to provide additional power to A.C. loads without exceeding the A.C. input limit.

    If you thought this was a long explanation, then mine must be books!
    I think you did a great job explaining the issues. I know how frustrating it can be trying to get a problem resolved from a companies support team and either get no answer or different answers each time you talk to someone else.
    Looking forward to what you see with the 6000XPs.

    My first all in one was an MPP LV2424. I became wiser last year and bought a Victron MultiPlus-II due to the idle consumption being 11 watts versus 40 watts.

      I have an LV2424MSD as well. I like the inverter, it's been great, but yeah the idle is higher than desired there as well.

      @@LithiumSolar That is the exact first MPP product I bought as well. Dismantled it 100% before ever even turning it on. Build seems good, but the lesson I learned with MPP is you better buy all the inverters you need in one go... else later on you will find the model discontinued and the "replacements" incompatible with linking/paralleling. Like you said, they keep releasing new revisions or totally different models. I had wanted to accumulate additional units over time as funds allowed. MPP sent several emails asking if I still had any interest in their current offerings and I was honest with them - buying a unit, then not even a year later finding it discontinued and incompatible with the current offerings... is discouraging.
      The high idle consumptions also stink... but Victrons are so expensive compared... The 2424 has two fans, 12V @ 0.4A each. Full blast, thats ~9 watts. I'd like to see the MPP and clones work on getting better idle consumptions down.

    Being that, I don’t understand half of what you’re talking about, I’m glad I stuck with Victron! I’ve had a few issues, but they’ve all been caused by my stupidity!
    Big learning curve for a man in his late 60s whose new to solar 🖖

      I sure hope so! They check pretty much every box on my list of "nice to have" and the idle is reasonable as well (yes, I cheated already haha).

    Wow, sad story indeed. As an engineer, can relate. Tech companies ought to uphold higher standards than this... releasing 2 different hardwares under 1 model number is "wrong enough" already - but as you explain, it only gets "better". Thanks for publishing!

    Yes, this guy is sharp, so what he’s saying will not bode well for MPP Solar. If he’s perplexed, and tech support is worthless, nobody’s going to get near these. What a frustrating mess! Sorry you had to go through this. I hear the EG4 idle consumption maxes at 50w w/batteries, 30w w/grid and 10w w/solar!

    Great video.
    I have a single LV6548 in my RV. Has been rock solid for over 2 years now. I have updated the firmware with no issues. I have a DIY battery with JBD BMS's. There is no communication with the batteries, but I use a Victron shunt to tell me the real story on the SOC and it works great. I'm using Solar Assistant to monitor/control the inverter, which has great data collection and decent user interface. The Watchpower app I got with the MPP is total crap.
    At this scale I don't have much to complain about, but I can see that at greater scale I'd be facing the same problems you are. I'm looking forward to your experience with the EG4 inverters.

    Well said. I nearly bought one of their inverters a few years ago but never did because of the insane standby power.
    MPP have really missed the mark here. All they had to do was make a cheap, low standby, high input Voltage inverter. They were so close, but so far.
    Like you say, who in their right mind would buy one of these from MPP anymore, because for a few bucks more you can get one that has all those features.
    Unless MPP can do that, they will be regarded as obsolete and their company will dissolve

    Thing is from my perspective:
    There’s a lot of us that can use their robust headroom and output either singly or split phase. We just connect them and run them- and other than occasionally observing the daily output screens for mostly anecdotal purposes - all the information we need to know or care about is that it is working, and works in the event of several sequential cloudy days.
    Canbus or whatever protocol never crosses most people’s minds, and I’d bet 9 out of 10 buyers haven’t even a clue how to reverse engineer a native protocol to write code against.
    All I care is that they work. They do.

    I have been using my lv6548s for almost two years, I don't even know what you are talking about with the complaints so good luck with the new ones (not saying the problems aren't real but a lot of people may not encounter them due to their use cases)

    I held back and bought a Growatt 3 Kw unit mounted to a hand truck to make a portable unit to learn from. I finally settled on an all Victron off grid Quattro system. Boy I’m glad I made that decision.

      I had an earlier iteration of an earlier model that had 175W idle draw. Imagine having two of those? That is the night time draw of my entire 4 bedroom draw. So happy I ate that purchase and bought something better for a lot more money.

    I have 2 LV6548s and I 100% agree with you about their support. It takes forever to get a response and things seem to go into the "we need to research this" blackhole and never get followed up with again. I've given up and am running the system in a mostly working state on the original firmware, but boy did I have buyers remorse once the EG4 version of these inverters came out, since they can natively talk to the EG4 batteries and have the increased max Voc for PV. They are powering loads fine, but before we replace/expand our rooftop array, I will be switching to something else because the 250Voc/18A limit is just too funky for today's panels.

    Why using All In One? In the past, you had separate SCC and Inverters.
    I think for DIY, I would prefer using separate SCC so I can choose the optimal SCC combinations for my PV system.
    And for the Inverters, I could use separate efficient Inverters for low consumption (lighting, computers...)
    and largers Inverters for heavy load (refrigirator, HVAC..) which can go in stand by when there is no load demand to improve efficiency.

    I bought mine march of 23. I set them up with no communication and 15 kWh of battery. I haven’t had any issues in almost a year. I have about 6 mwh of pv produced thus far. Idle consumption is about 65w per unit. I’m really liking the new eg4 units though. I hope you have better luck with those

    Out of the frying pan and into the fire. The 6548's (MPP & EG4) all had really good reviews "at first". Similar to how the 6000ex are getting rave reviews now. I hope they are truly better but only time will tell. At least you are getting responses from MPP. I usually do not get a response from SS so I rely on others like yourself for info on how to resolve issues. SS has 'sunset' the 6548 and 6500 and even removed them from their site. I can see no longer offering them for sale, but to remove them and leave those of us who bought them high and dry is just not right. Good luck

    I had the EG4 6500EX, the same inverters. Constant issues. Changed to the EG4 18k’s, turned them on 7 months ago, and have never had to touch them.

    I had more problems than that, even the firmware had 90v lock at the mppt, every morning or cloudy days, they would go down to 90v.
    After i made firmware update, it worked better.
    After 3 years of use i just took Victron Multiplus II and i have no problems anymore.
    The MppSolar 8048 Max was ok, but now is more quiet and zero issues.

    Dude, so sorry to hear of your trials. My single 6548 continues to chug along so no new inverter for Ed, yet
    Question for you, how far out of balance can you push the new EG4? I haven’t seen that addressed anywhere yet, I have been lookin at those as a preemptive replacement now that the LV has over 24 months of continuous duty on it

      Yeah I had a hard time fronting the cash for a new pair of inverters when I already spent on FOUR of the LV6548's. I then came to the conclusion that it had to be done...

      I bought the Lux/EG4 unit and look forward to your opinion on how it works for you. Good luck finding someone to buy your mpp units. What a shame they were so unhelpful and didn't consider compatibility between their own units!
      I just finished building my power shed and will be installing the equipment soon and can't wait!

      I enjoy both of your video reviews. You both have different styles which is natural. Solar electric components are complex and contain tons of priority stuff. The literature on these theory etc is sketchy. In many cases the only info and most often valid is only available from you both based on your hands on experience. Thanks.

    MPP Solar has been making inverters for over 20 yrs now. Back around 2008, many in the community complained about high idle, lack of ability to fix or improve the product due to the fact that they bought the tech IP (same as AIMS and many other Taiwanese companies), and didn't have a design engineer at their disposal. The Aussies gave up on this brand fairly quickly. Now 15 yrs later we have new community members that get to realize the same things. But all this info was out there. You just have to look for it. Bottom line: don't buy tech from some company that obtained their design anywhere but in-house. All they can do is trial and error tweaks to attempt to improve it since they don't fully understand the tech.

    I literally just finished my installation, and I'm already thinking the same thing, lol. They are loud, and I found a ~30V AC back-feed in my PV array from the MPPT inputs! Crazy... I heard of this happening with either you or someone else, but I could not find the video. With that said, I absolutely love the lv2424. It's a well-built and balanced unit. BTW. 4AWG wire does fit in the terminals for the mains.... Good luck!

      @@LithiumSolar Offgrid in Sweden 240V, 48V 560 Ah, MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-50 230V goes for 1400 euro's, Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250/60-Tr (12/24/48V) goes for 509 euro's. Rasp3 for VenusOS, Odroid N2 for HomeAssistant talking modbus to VenusOS

    I've been running the house on a PowMr 5500w for a few months now with zero issues. 500v MPPT, 71-74 watts at idle depending on settings. I use a separate transformer to split the 240 and create a neutral. Transformer is only 1500VA because it only needs to handle the difference in current between the legs. It has CAN and RS485 and supports parallel operation, but I don't use those features, so I can't say how useful they are or how well they work. Overall pretty good for a sub $500 inverter.

    Yeah, I feel what you are saying.. part of me is a little concerned that manufactures are treating these things like cell phones... many of us want to buy and have it in service for many years,.. not have to replace with incrementally improved units every 14 months... I hope the rate that these units were discontinued and incompatible is not a sign of things to come.

      Considering they're getting "permanently" mounted onto a home or structure, treating it as anything less than a 10 year+ *inspected electrical component* is kinda dangerous. I've seen breaker boxes and smart meters burn down homes, if a company is haphazard in one area, you're rolling the dice that they didn't mess something else up too.

    I have been slowly phasing out all my MPPT inverters and went with Growatt 6kw & 12kw Low frequency off grid inverters that can start 3 1/2 ton heat pump & 4 ton heat pump and a 12.7 ton pool heater heat pump. I can run my 3 /1/2 ton ac overnight in summer with 5 server rack batteries. Now I have 7 server rack batteries for this years summer. I now use the EG4 3000 watt inverter which is great once set up but can not run large appliances like listed above. I will be looking at the EG4 12 kw output to replace growatt low frequency inverters in the future. I gave all my MPPT inverters away, waste of money. Will get rid of last MPPT inverter once I get 2nd EG4 3000 watt inverter and in parallel. I suggest cutting your losses and use inverters that actually work from Signature Solar. Hope things go better for you with new inverters and hope you have a truly wonderful and extremely blessed 2024.

    Hello friend. I know my answer will not be so kind but here it is . I think you are thinking about it too much. MPP Solar isn't any way bad company in regards that other one. I bought 5kW version inverter from Victron energy. Then i bought another one about 2 years later. When i wanted to connect it together in parallel mode it didn't allow me.. So after discussion with support i had to buy new control board for my old inverter and change it myself..once done it started working as it should ..it cost me about 300 Euro plus and i didn't do anything wrong..they just finished support of old boards and moved on.. So yeah that is life. MPP Solar is the same and your new inverter will be the same. That is how it works unfortunatly.

    Let the testing begin with the new inverters! I'm also considering these same inverters. So far my only hesitation is the 30ms tranfer time when in parallel. I only run 1 6548 as i don't need 240V and its transfer time is much faster. But the battery comms issues from back when you made those videos still is broken for me and SunGold was zero help in getting me new firmware. I now have the firmware from back then that MPP used to fix that issue and will attempt to flash it soon, if it bricks it, o well my attitude is the same as you..Time to move on. However, I would also recommend staying away from SunGold as their support was horrible.

    I agree though I have the EG4 with the better VOC. I plan to make the same switch from the 6500EXs to the 6000XP. late this year or next year. I didn't know that the higher idle consumption has to do with the mppt improvements. For me I have been disappointed with overnight battery consumption. The specs say they are supposed to be like 91% efficient on battery but I seem to be getting more like 80%. The final straw for me was some months back when EG4 had to research a flickering problem and found that there was a change in the hardware or firmware that wasn't documented and they had to find the hard way.

    Just pulled my MPP 6548WP pair and swapped in a pair of EG4 6kXP's last weekend. My batteries are lasting way longer, and everything just worked out of the box. Had multiple hardware failures on one of my 6548WP's within the first year, so much wasted time with buggy software and working with support. Only thing I didn't understand about the 6000XP's is how it only runs the load from grid OR battery+PV. Getting some light flickering under certain load conditions and light dimming when high current appliances kick in. But the ATS is super fast, and integration with Tigo rapid shutdown is way better.

    I fully understand your frustrations. The large idle power draw is clearly a problem. The fact that the company removed the idle value from their marketing specification suggests they are aware of it. There's seems to be a passive quality to the nature of their support... It is also disappointing to hear about the proprietary nature of their bus and that only newer models support the update.
    However, the decision to install firmware into a device that is "not" compatible with the firmware was bound to cause an issue -- honestly, I would say you are lucky it even worked at all.
    You definitely seem to be very annoyed by the excess power draw. I am just guessing but if it was less than 70, I think you would have been much happier.
    Ps... Yes, those EG4 6000XP models seem to have a lot of great features. I don't own one, but I found that 6000XP would NOT accept 48V DC Solar, the input voltage range is 100 to 480 DC. I personally would like to see it able to handle lower input voltages. Sub-50 volts would likely reduce NEC compliance issues.

      I agree, they are trying to improve features but seem to lack the engineering required to make the features work efficiently. These are all things that should have been engineered and ironed out BEFORE releasing the inverter model for people to purchase.

    I have similar problems with the newer MPP LVX 6000 WP. The latest firmware increased the idle consumption to between 250 and 300 watts which is unacceptable. The fans are also unacceptably loud. For those two reasons, I would recommend staying away from this inverter. I also purchased mine when they first came out and found that it too was replaced by a successor model only six months later with different firmware. The firmware on my older LVX 6000 WP has also not been upgraded in a long time and I doubt it ever will be. So I am also considering just cutting my losses and upgrading. I just don’t know what yet.

    Ha, MPP solar have said so many times to me that they were going to fix, get back or even give me money back but NOOOP... They even blocked emails and stuff and then blame other issues when you call them up. They have no support nor do they have any on-going proper support or maintenance on the gear. As soon as my inverter dies im swapping it out to either growatt or Victron. There is one thing about the support but another thing is that they are just badly hardware and software from start.
    Buy cheap, buy twice... is sooooo true for the MPP stuff including the clones.
    I havent recomended them for years and stopped doing that after my phone calls some years back.

    Wish I would have waited to build my system. I installed a LV6048 as a battery backup system, I don't have any meaningful solar setup, just a few hundred watts.
    The 6048 is a tank, but its idle consumption of 65W is less than ideal. And when I do get solar, I will be limited by the 145V input. It has 2 inputs at least. I have a small house and lot so I can't utilize a very big array anyways.

    Good price,and we'll preforming. Have a 3 fase grid setup for over year.

    Makes sense. AIO Inverter tech has drastically improved over the past 2 years. Makes it tough to find an AIO that will still be efficient compared to what’s available in 4-6 years. Not really much today that can beat the 6000xp for the money. Next year, who knows? DIY Brands better start improving their customer support or many will soon be obsolete…. 👍⚡️☀️💡🤣🤡

    I refuse to use the LV 6548s in the split phase configuration... I only set them up for single phase. In fact the only times I ever see them have issues is when they're set up for split phase... But I've never been brand loyal to any inverter. We've installed them all over the years. I'm not even sure about the new EG4 inverter I just ordered one but until it gets tested for a year or so it's kind of an unknown quantity..

    It is very frustrating trying to solve problem with these inverters. If it brake under warranty they would give you another one but you will have to pay for 50% of the newer version.

    Got an MPP PipMax11kw (230V EU). 120W idle is a lot, but since its 11kW (PV and power out) I need only one. The idle consumption is bad on all Pips. 6048MT 60W, 4048/5048 50W. I got several of those (started 10 years ago with them). But they still work. Same Can problem, my Max 11 was made early 2022, so no Can bus update. Tech support is slow and not always useful. There are now other brands I consider, maybe a Deye. But after 10 years the old 4048 still run, got 3 of them for 3phase, charging the car 3p and 3p tools and kitchen. Only on when needed due to 3x50W idle loss. When the 230V output is off, inverter off, it still charges from PV, but as soon as there is some volt on the PV input, idle loss comes on again. Too lossy when having multiple inverters

    *Looks at me Victron inverter with 20w idle consumption 6kwin or out 11kw solar @ 450v and perfect software and firmware and communications* Ye gets what ye pays for as they say! With that idle consumption per inverter you actually need a complete extra 48v rack mount batt just to cater for the inverter use. Suddenly your not saving as much money as you thought on these cheap inverters!

    good video , hey I have a video request. I have a 6548 ( EG 6500 ) anyway I run 220 volt to my well with this unit using a Growatt 5kW Split Phase Transformer | ATS 5000T-US . With good luck, works well . We have added the new EG 6000XP which is 220 volt output. I have not switch the well over to it. But because its a little less outut capacity I was think would load balancing work using this growatt or any other transformer (Victron, outback etc ) . I know you can load balance with some of this transformer , but that's normally adding power from one leg to another. I don't know if you can use it to help with inductive loads on an inverter that already outputs 220 volt split phase. Can you do a video on this maybe ? it doesn't have to be with the EG 6000XP , but any split-phase transformer. the well I am running uses 3200 watts running but start-up Im sure is a lot higher ( I forget now )

    Soltaro batteries, I have 200+KWh of their batteries still in the shed. Busy stripping them and throwing all the electronics in the bin and rebuilding the packs in 48V instead of the 12S 36V PITA.

    I think once the EG4 6000xp came to the market, other inverter are just worthless if they cost as much as the eg4. shame that MPP cant even handle a proper line and configuration on the equipment, many video shows the product is good but seems the software isn't.
    I have 2 growatt and also they have the 250V 18Amp max, so I added external Victron solar charger... they are amazing . 150/30 is great product/
    by the way, how's the sungoldpower battery doing so far ?

    anoying, but you just need someone to low level flash the chip directly. but ya firmware updates that are needed for a product and not managed good is bad. netgear does the same thing, lots of versions of the same product and hard to even know what one you have

    i was wondering if you have updated your " 3000W/5000W Portable Solar Power Stations 2020/ 2022 models " with newer market items. these videos have been very helpful in my projects and it would be interesting to see what new ideas you might have for these kinds of builds today. maybe a 12v system for emergencies or as the prepers say.. a Bug-out or Doomsday unit. or even a wind turbine set up for an RV could be fun

    The problem with these inverters is that they use cheap, Chinese engineered, high frequency technology. After 24 years repairing these light weight, high frequency inverters, I would highly recommend purchasing a hybrid, low frequency, transformer based inverter instead of another low cost, high frequency inverter. Your system will last far longer,you'll have a much higher surge capacity, and you'll have a much safer system because of the galvanic isolation between the DC section of the inverter and its AC output.

    Hi,
    I have some recently bought lifepo4 cells.
    Out of ignorance, I connected them down in series, while waiting for my daly BMS to arrive my home country.
    Upon BMS arrival, I went checking the voltage of the batteries, only for me to find each and all, reading negative (-26.40V ) on the multimeter as against 26.40V as at the very day they were connected after top balancing. Please, is there anything I can do to correct this?

    We had a few luxpowers (5 of them) 12k/18kpv. Got them between may 2023 to August 23. Had the luxpower engineers come visit as 3 of them failed. Come to find out these were released in April 2023 and by September 2023 there were already 4 hardware revisions.
    So thinking the newest product on the market is going to be rock solid from the beginning is a myth.
    ONLINE firmware updates can be horrific, one day works like a champ, next day blows up in your face due to the complexity of version control for all the flavors of hardware.
    Victron / sol-ark has been around for a while, hence stability .
    Sorry but the Chinese model is to just make a new version if there was a problem in the old. The only benefit is the cheap cost.
    Strange that we always think the new shiny model is going to be rock solid

I only use 120 in my CL panel (nat gas furnaces, no AC) but I do on occasion pull 5000 watts and my panel isn’t perfectly (or all that well) balanced. When you get them could you see how well they deal with a single leg over 3k please?

      @@rosalieroku3818 are you 100% grid free? I lack the unshaded lawn for sufficient panels even were I willing to absorb that aesthetic. I refuse to place them on a 12 year old asphalt shingle roof, or on any roof 30 feet off the ground with a steep pitch for that matter. More problematic is my roof’s SE face. So there remains a place for the grid in my, and my neighbors world. No inflection point, yet

    I really don't understand why people get so exercised regarding close loop comms. I just buy a quality inverter, quality batteries, set the parameter and be happy. Never had a problem.

    Your choice of inverter model is incorrect. MPP solar have more suitable models with 500 volt DC input. Have you looked at Solar Assistant as your inverter monitoring system.

    After 3 weeks of struggling with an earlier version of these, circa 2020, then replacing it with something that was promised would be much better then losing power for no reason that I could see a week later on a sunny day. I threw in the towel and bought a Solark. Almost 4 years later it's still working to the point that I rarely think about it other than checking the power generation and the battery state of charge in the morning before sunrise. How much is your time worth to you?

    I'm using an 54.7 volt ebike charger , will the 54.7 volt do damage to the LifePo4 battery?

    Sol-ark and Eg4 is what I'll be going with.Same issue's with trying to parallel different year hybrid lv2424,slow support and no readily available info on firmware on older version's that can be updated,It's a confusing mess It would be easier to know beforehand If It's compatible or would I really have to replace a control board.Also bought from Maximum Solar US stock but shipped from Taiwan air they will not fix shipping lost issue's (waited 2 months) for a Paypal refund on a parallel kit and bought from real US stock at Watts/247.
