My father took me to The Third Man when I was four years old. The love affair was moving and believable. Seeing Harry Lime's face ignite at the point the light turned on was frightening while captivating. His disappearance down the spiral stairway added tremendous depth. Yet, the mood established by Anton's graceful, but powerful gestures is still irreplaceable. I've owned a copy of the theme on a London 78 for fifty years. My father bought it but didn't play it much so, is in great condition. My system is equipped with two turntables, one of which plays 78RPM. Although there are special width styli available, a Shure MR78 does a great job of pulling the signal from the track. I'm almost brought to tearing, each time the music takes me back to the first time. The fascination that comes from a zither is produced by the constant tremolo of the left hand, requiring a hell of a lot of endurance, to make the movement of the notes just float.-Andy Knapp
This takes me back to the years in the 50s when I was stationed in Austria. Being a soldier in those days also meant being stationed in one of the most beautiful and musical countries in the world. It shaped my life!!!
Robert, I'm glad to hear that you had a great experience. There is something haunting and beautiful about the zither: it reflects the warmth and friendliness of Austrians. Thank you for your service!
veryveryvery juicy Vienna rhythm and such a beautiful elastic melody , various tempo in each phrasing is so so so charming(sorry poor English) 89yrs. Japanese.
Quien no recuerde nada amoroso . . . mmm... solicite hora al médico o revise fotos antiguas. Chao---------- Boris

I was stationed in Germany in the 1960s and I listened to Radio Caroline.
This is a kind of music I like best. In my opinion, Anton Karas was the best Austrian composer of the 20th century.
If this music was played on the radio- the world would be a kinder place- it's beautiful!!
B shuler I am sure it was played on radio.
This beautiful music goes deep, so deep........
In my younger days I holidayed in Austria many times during the winter.Loved the people, the country and the music...should have been born there !

Delightful music, thanks for posting. Happy memories of skiing in Kitzbuhel - Cafe Praxmair with the zither player in the corner.
Mag ich. Mein Vater stammt vom Burgenland.

💖🙏🏻💖
Takes me back to the 'Third Man'. Anton Karas made the music for a whole movie - much better than a big orchestra could do.
Mon dieu, que c'est joli ! ♥
C'est vrai. C'est charmant aussi. Forgive my French. It's been a long time since highschool.
MAUREEN E Donovan Haha and please forgive my English, I'm just....very bad 😂 And your French is quite good, so don't worry !
Very catchy.
Hi again:-).
Where did you find this beautiful music?
Tadellos!
Do we know anything about this orchestra. When did they play this beautiful song and the name of the orchestra.:-).
Muy hermoso

Nobody mentions weina was under booths of allis and suffered so much, third man show us that atmosphere and for this reason music is dark and bitter.
How do l get more music from this orchestra ?
This music was heard often just after the war. Then the world went mad,and tone deaf.Thankyou for bringing sanity back to music.
