Almost 2 years later and I still wonder if the outcome would have been different if Thornwell had been 100% healthy.

He's the main reason I'm rooting for Gonzaga in the Final Four. Watched him at FIBA EuroBasket 2015 with the Polish national team and loved him. He's not just big and strong but also skilled.
I hope he'll get drafted soon, trully a smart fellow
his story is incredible too. not a lot of people know about his horrible back injury last year. they were worried he might not even be able to walk the same again, and he lost around 60 pounds (which he has gained back)

that would have been better...
I know but they are not going to they lose to Gonzaga it will be Tarheels will win in the championship it will be Gonzaga vs Tarheels and the Tarheels will beat the Bulldogs. I know it is the past 2 or 1 years ago, but it was not uncommon that the tarheels would’ve not made it that year. But me as a tarheel fan I know Gonzaga vs Tarheels game would be a good one. But at the end was to good. Block dunk and all that stuff. I was jumping and was happy. A few weeks later I see my dad with a final 4/Championship shirt. It said National Championship.
No contest, UNC would win. Better school, better athletes, better coach and best history.
@@scottworley1479a lot of the teams sc beat were wayyyy ‘better’ in terms of athletes & skill .. SC got that far because they played hard and close up .. they had the #1 defense in the tournament that year .. also thornwell #0 was sick this game , if he played 100% surely sc could’ve won , they were already close .. but this is old lol I’m just revisiting..
@xxsskyyxx SC was good that year, no doubt. If unc wasn't in it, I would've definitely been rooting for them.

Gonzaga really impressed me with there win here. There biggest player karnowski got hurt and Gonzaga didn't let that faze them and they still played great Basketball. North Carolina was playing slightly above average against Oregon. North Carolina ain't going to cut it against Gonzaga if they continue to play that way on Monday.

@@lild-ssert662 NO WAY. Baylor was the superior team. But GU was unbeaten going into 2021 title game. They would have greatly benefitted from playing that Baylor game in the regular season that was cancellled. I felt the 2021 team was superior to the 2017 team. The 2021 team KILLED every top 15 BCS opponent besides West VA. They were dominant. They BREEZED thru the first rounds of the tourney. Suggs was special.
The makeup of those two teams could not be more different... 2017 Gonzaga was defense focused and mid-paced; 2021 Gonzaga was offense-focused and the fastest paced team you will ever see

Gonzaga made a lot of contested shots. Gamecocks were playing them about as tight as they could.

The chances he stays 4 years are incredibly low, but I would like to see him get one more year under his belt. He's very talented and has a natural basketball instinct, but he's still raw and makes freshman plays.

I don't understand the decision by South Carolina in the last 12.5 in the game. your down by 3 and you hold the ball until your fouled with 4.5 seconds left SMH... South Carolina player goes to free throw line and Hits first but misses the second on purpose SMH.. you hit that second one and your down by 1 point ....you put the defense on and get a 5 second count or a steal . If all that fails it's 3.5 seconds left with Gonzaga on foul line with you still having a chance at win or tie. *** Why didn't South Carolina come down and just shoot a quick 3... SMH...

Chasebus But it's all about a chance 2 win and they blew it twice first by holding the ball until getting fouled .. Second missing a free throw on purpose with 4 seconds left .
I agree with you that they should have shot the three cause even if you miss and potentially get fouled then you take three free throws but no in that circumstance after Thornwell got fouled you gotta make the first and purposefully miss the second to come up with the rebound. Likelihood is very slim that you would get a steal on defense then shoot a shot with only a 3 seconds left on the clock.

*Gonzaga has come along way to get to this point. I remember the first year being noticed by upsetting teams in every tournament. They would eventually get better and better every year. Even though I think this tournament bracket was rigged for upsets and certain teams. It's still been exciting to watch. I told my buddies 5+ seed would make it to the final four and possibly the championship but I did have Gonzaga winning it. Gonzaga by +4!*

So, i live in Spokane. At halftime, me and my dad booked it downtown to get dinner (We made an order with a place there), and were listening on the radio when they came back. The Zags were up 14, and i figured there was no way they could lose.
Then, we got home, and all of a sudden SC is in the lead. I wanted to scream; this was going to be the worst day of my life. But somehow, they survived, and won. Rollercoaster of a night for me!

Such an efficient team. UNC normally runs and plays sloppy. Also, no one to contend with the front court.
