My favorite part is that Disney and Unicef never copyrighted the song because it was a "gift to the world." To me that really shows how the world unifying theme meant to them.

The first time i went to Disney was in 1993 and i remember my grandfather took me to Small World many times....he sang it in Italian and spanish... Was beautiful... I miss him so much....
Small World mesmerized me as a child, especially outside whenever the clock chimes. I fully believed that building was magical. The chime has a Sherman Brothers theme of its own complete with Wonka-esque sound effects and a royal fanfare. I didn't know Walt himself conceived of the clock. No wonder it's so awesome.
I actually LOVE the "America" room because of the 3 Navajo native Americans on the cliff. It was really cool of them to add since ironically people don't usually think of them when they think of 'Merica.
its a small world is my fave ride ever there and it means so much to me its kinda sad when people say its anoyying and scary but they dont realize how much thought and work was put into this walt is amazing and i have soo much respect for him and the ride. i mean the music is sooo pretty and when ur in the ride and when u listen to the lyrics of the song u just understand and Remember when u were a kid that this is exactly what it was like when i was and maby u were a little kid we used to look at the world so different then how adults did and we always thought it was magical and crazy XD
Sorry for replying so late but I totally agree with you. I like to keep on the surface of Disney rumours and only see it as one of the best parks in the world!!
minty truffle YASS! Finally someone agrees with me! This ride brings back so many memories and I LOVED this ride as a child and I still do. I can't get enough of it. I ride it like twice in a row before my parents tell me they want to do something else. I love the song and the dolls are really cute! 💖😊
Well Disney doesn’t seem to like emperors new groove very much. I am surprised they added Mulan since it’s seems Disney doesn’t want to sell very much merch.
I made a paper model of the It's a Small World clock and facade, there's music and effects that I use in it. I've shown it off at Autism fairs, museums, and other places. I also got a 1st place award for it at an art contest! FRESH BAKED!!!
The Clock Tower is one of the best first bosses in any game ever, and is a perfect way to solidify how the paint and thinner mechanic works in players' minds. It's also fucking terrifying.
Ireland (green + shamrocks), Scotland (tartan and bagpipes), The Netherlands (wooden shoes)...many countries not mentioned are specifically called out on the attraction.
The Philippines are also represented! There is a single female doll in traditional Filipino clothing awkwardly placed between Ariel and Australia, in the same room as the Polynesian and Hawaiian dancers. She used to have a male to dance with, but he disappeared a few years ago, mysteriously.
I first rode "It's a Small World" in 1964 at age 4 at the New York World's Fair. I then rode it again in 1967 at Disneyland, having forgotten the 1964 experience. I experienced serious Deja Vue on the ride. It wasn't until taking my own kids through It's a Small World in 2005 at WDW that I remembered that I had first ridden it in 1964.
I actually like having this characters on the ride. I always forget they were added then get surprised when i see them. I don't think it takes anything away from the experience. The holiday overlay is probably my absolute favorite aside from the haunted mansion. Great video Dave!
I'm surprised he didn't mention the incident where a young boy was found hanging in the rafters of this ride. I'm not entirely sure exactly when this eerie and tragic incident happened, but it would have been cool to hear him talk about it. Afterall, it is a serious incident that occurred in this ride, and incredibly terrifying and sad, especially considering no one ever found out the true cause of the kid's hanging.
I went on that and I was singing that damn song for two weeks without even thinking about while doing everyday things. In gym class I was running around the football field and I was STILL SINGING IT
Yep. That's what happens to me every year that I go. It's kind of a tradition to go on It's a Small World every time(unless it's closed) and we always have to get at least (and only) one ride. Every year that damn song just sticks to my brain. That song is such an ear worm. It'll just implant itself into your brain and continuously repeat.
I only really noticed Woody and Jessie inside. I never knew there were tons more Disney characters. Also I heard a rumor that somewhere in the ride, it's hard to see but there's an animatronic that's supposed to look like Walt Disney. Does anyone know if this is true or not?
Great video, Dave! I like the concept of It's a Small World and Pirates and how the lines move extremely quickly because of the style of ride through. I think there should be at least one more of this kind of ride at Disneyland, personally. It would take the edge off of the entire park during the exceptionally busy seasons. It's amazing to me that ALL of those holiday decorations go up in ONE night... simply unbelievable. One thing I think Disneyland should have changed are the bright blue half tubes the boats go around in. I think it makes the ride look a bit cheap, for when it's quite the opposite.
One of my favorite attractions. By the time you reach it in Disneyland, the cook sit down adventure sure hits the spot. Remember Disney doesn't call them rides. They're attractions.
This is great backstory on "It's a Small World". Disneyland is MY LAND. Mr. Disney said so when he opened the place in 1955. I was there with my dad at age 3.
One part most people miss is that some of the Disney Characters has motifs of the songs played by them. You can here “I Got No Strings” next to Pinocchio, and several others.
I went to Disneyland for the first time ever as a 25 year old in France and without even knowing much about the history behind the ride, it's a small world became my absolute favourite ride. It made me so happy that I rode it twice when I didn't really have time for all rides and I still listen to the song on a regular basis.
My father was part of the original construction team on this ride. As a kid, he would tell me how in the final weeks/months of construction, the soundtrack would play continuously. He grew so sick of hearing it, that he refused to go on the ride with us when we would visit.
You didn't explain the reason why some people think that the thing hanging from the ceiling is a boy that committed suicide and why other people think it's a doll.
Well it was, but it was technically a rip off of the Disnetly Ride. The ride that rip the song was It's a Small Wotld After All, but in China. Disney should just sue them people. The video is here on youtube if you want to know what I mean.

The song "it's a small world" was nice. When I heard it today, I quickly searched it up. I heard the song in preschool, Disney did a good job on the song.
Whilst at DL two years ago, we (three kids, the Male Unit and myself) got stuck in the ride for about 20 minutes. Every time the song started over again, I got the most insane case of the giggles! I also got some good photos, since we weren't in motion. Disneyland: even when things go wrong, it's fun.
I have been to Disneyland twice in my life, and both times It's A Small World was closed. I hope that then next time I am able to go to Disneyland I can ride It's A Small World!
Dunno if anyone has previously listed these. Try as I might, I can find 30 characters rather than 37 (which most sources list as the number, including FreshBaked :D ). They are: Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Alice, White Rabbit, Cinderella, Jaq, Gus, Pinocchio, Jiminy Cricket, Aladdin, Jasmine, Abu, Magic Carpet, Mulan, Mushu, The Three (+3) Caballeros, Simba, Timon, Pumbaa, Ariel, Flounder, Dory, Nemo, Lilo, Stitch, Jesse, Woody, and Bullseye. If someone knows the additional 7 (if they exist), I'd love to hear them! Great job, FreshBaked. Keep it up!
I just went yesterday and also saw the following countries represented as well: Spain, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Ireland, Holland, Germany, Scotland, Egypt. There might be more, but those were the ones I was able to identify.
Fun fact about the gold leaf, in his book, Rolly said they pretty much used up the U.S's gold leaf supply so they had to get some Germany but it tarnished but luckily the US had enough to order again.
I LOVE this. So much. So so much! How do you feel about the Disney characters being put into the ride, Dave? I just recently realised that where you see each character, along with the Small World song, there's an underlay of a "theme song" that corresponds with the characters movie (ie Alice has "In a World of My Own" and Aladdin has "A Whole New World") and I love it lol
Actually, I have been to the Disney in France, and Pinocchio is the most common character to be seen. If Pinocchio was Italian, then the French wouldn't of sorta worshipped him. At the park, they even had multiple Pinocchio floats!
Why did this just show up on my feed as a video to watch (not complaining). As I have already seen it lol. I think I have only missed a very few amount of videos from Fresh Baked!!
I enjoy this ride every time I go! It's amazing that this ride exists across the world in Tokyo, Paris, and Hong Kong. Sometimes it's odd to look up videos of the Disneyland version in the 90s and you hear the Paris soundtrack playing (and you see the white facade in pastels). I listen to the DL soundtrack, Holiday overlay soundtrack, the Eurobeat version (and Ducking Hardcore Mix), the broken sounding rendition from Epic Mickey, and the Epic Mickey music that plays during the boss battle against the clock.
With so much crap on youtube, thanks for a non suruppy video! Good to hear that one of my favorite rides has even better wheelchair access- i should trek down there and check it out. Last time i was on that ride was when i was 7 (when my Dad carried me on- a very long time ago). Not too crazy about the addition of the Disney characters- don't we get enough of them outside the ride??!
The song was actually, secretly developed in 1942 as a way of breaking Axis Spies and POW's. Most could only take 10-15 minutes of hearing THAT SONG before giving up all their secrets.
I liked this attraction when I was a kid. In fact, I have the pin in my shadow box along with the Little Golden Book that I plan to read to my audience remotely from a facility that I miss volunteering at so much now that COVID-19 has entered the picture. I've been on It's a Small World 5⃣ times with my parents even though we enjoyed seeing it during the holidays twice for my birthday celebrations. In fact, I've been to Disneyland with my parents 5⃣times before the coronavirus pandemic occurred. My 2⃣friends that I know from an agency that's located in the city are both going to Disneyland separately. One of my friends who participates on my hangout on Saturdays is going in Fall 2023. She's hosting a tour group called New Group whereas other friend who's a member of my support posse is going down there in Summer 2023 with his family, because he's renting a van at the moment.
it wasn't in small world, that hanging boy was seen in a Chinese ripoff of the small world, just look up its a zombie world watch the video and the camera man will close up on the ceiling showing the hanging boy and then he says poor baby
Hey Dave. You didn’t mention that in addition to removing the old fantasyland train station . They rerouted the RR track and berm to the north to create the fore court and que for the attraction as well as putting the show building out side the new berm. The pathway between the fantasyland theatre and Casey jr. RR was the original 1955 routing on that side of the park.
the first time I went to small world when i was 3 with my mom I was terrified and started screaming in the whole ride although she never knew the reason y but now I think I do...
Quick Tip. When you're in the queue stay to the right side as the left is used for the loading and unloading of wheelchairs, and it is significantly slower. #FreshBaked!
I'm so glad It's a Small World won't be closed when I'm there in 2 weeks. Going to have to cancel my reservation to Blue Bayou. I'm not going to pay that much money and not get the Pirates of the Caribbean atmosphere
there's 2 things you missed. 1st was the little girl's body hanging on the ceiling. 2nd you forgot to say after they found that out, Walter and Disney workers said the dolls would move or change places over night.
I used to sing that song at Girl Guides before I even knew it was a ride at Disneyland. It's a world of laughter, a world of tears It's a world of hopes and a world of fears There's so much that we share, that it's time we're aware It's a small world after all It's a small world after all, It's a small world after all It's a small world after all, It's a small small world. There is just one moon and one golden sun and a smile means friendship to everyone Though the mountains divide,' And the oceans are wide, It's a small world after all. It's a small world after all, It's a s,all world after all, It's a small world after all, It's a small small world.
And three or so weeks before, I went to Disney World. We rode It's a Small World to get out of the rain. There were hula style dancers in one of the countries. They were shaking their hips rapidly back and forth. My sister poked me a said, "Aggressive twerking?". We laughed the whole rest of the ride..
My favorite part is that Disney and Unicef never copyrighted the song because it was a "gift to the world." To me that really shows how the world unifying theme meant to them.

it wasn't in small world, that hanging boy was seen in a Chinese ripoff of the small world, just look up its a zombie world watch the video and the camera man will close up on the ceiling showing the hanging boy and then he says poor baby
Great episode. Like the incorporation of the history and secrets of the attractions.Would love to see more!
Thank you, I would love to learn more about all of the attractions at Disneyland.
This used to be my favorite ride. When I was a toddler,I was afraid of the hippo that was blue with the flowers (now pink with flowers)
It is the scariest part of the ride...
Especially when it appeared in the game epic mickey
the first time I went to small world when i was 3 with my mom I was terrified and started screaming in the whole ride although she never knew the reason y but now I think I do...
I love these feature videos, David! Keep 'em coming!
aaaaaahhhhh now I'll never get that song outta my head
5:50 I thought that was Universal for a second.
* * shame
Quick Tip. When you're in the queue stay to the right side as the left is used for the loading and unloading of wheelchairs, and it is significantly slower. #FreshBaked!
I had to learn it’s a small world for second grade choir and I both love and hate it.
I know?!
Those are Urban Legands. Plus the body was a doll, in the ride It's a Zombie World After All; a ripoff of Disney in China
People who believe in these rumors are the people who make me hate the current generation.
I used to sing that song at Girl Guides before I even knew it was a ride at Disneyland.
It's a world of laughter, a world of tears
It's a world of hopes and a world of fears
There's so much that we share, that it's time we're aware
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all,
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all,
It's a small small world.
There is just one moon and one golden sun
and a smile means friendship to everyone
Though the mountains divide,'
And the oceans are wide,
It's a small world after all.
It's a small world after all,
It's a s,all world after all,
It's a small world after all,
It's a small small world.
For me, it's a small world was the scariest thing i'd ever seen!
Disney World REALLY needs the Disney characters put into the ride. The WDW version is so outdated that I just no longer go to it.
SabertoothCat many here in SoCal think the opposite. They think the Disney characters are a sacrilege.
Fresh Baked Disney actually i live in California and i have no problem and neither do my friends or family. We think it's nice. But that's just us.
Awesome job David! Very informative. Thank you.
BEST RIDE EVER!!!!
as a kid i used to bob up and down chomping my teeth together because i loved mimicking anything that fascinated me.
"at least one of those guys is lost and probably not just nemo" hahahaha
my dad did think it look like santa was playing a saxophone
Yesterday, an ice cream truck passed my house. It played an 8-bit/retro version of the 'It's a Small World' theme. No lyrics, just the song.
When I think of that music I want to run away because its torture
Aaaaaand it stuck in my head
