Thanks, Hunter, I have been waiting for this one... It is indeed a beautiful watch, and I see it as kind of a hopeful investment in what Huawei may bring in future updates. I love the workout tracking, I love the training load (and yeah, it is nowhere to be found in the phone app--maybe in the future?). I was able to get my Polar OH1 and H10 to both connect to it, so that is a bonus. Also, it really is stone-cold solid accurate in HR tracking--I am amazed. A minor quibble--I hope Huawei provides functionality to sync notifications with the phone (dismiss from one, dismisses from the other and vice versa.) Thanks again for the great work!
Hey! Oh my gosh how do I missed this! You were able to connect the polar H 10 to it?!?! I totally missed this. This is something that I need to alert people love if so. I will try it today because the last time I tried it did not work
See PINNED comment! Thanks so much, again!
UPDATE AND CLARIFICATION ON SENSOR OPTIONS for Heart Rate: A couple of subscribers noted that they could connect it to other heart rate chest straps and it actually works! But with a (big, for me) caveat. Once it makes the connection to the Bluetooth chest strap no other devices can connect to the chest strap even if it’s dual channel. At least I haven’t found a way. So basically once I’ve successfully connected my Polar H10 To the GT3 it is no longer connecting to Polar Beat or Polar Flow or Suunto/SportsTracker app. And the reverse is true, which is why it was not working for me before. If it is actively connected to one other Bluetooth device it’s not seen as an available sensor on the GT3 when you go to pair it.
I’ve successfully connected it to the following:
Polar H10
PowrLabs Chest Strap
PowrLabs Arm Band
H7
Suunto Smart Belt
This is pretty major news for General GT3 owners because you don’t have to get some weird older model chest strap but you can get a polar H-10, and I would assume a polar H9 and you’ll be good! This doesn’t help me at all unfortunately because I need to connect to three different apps or devices at any given time!
Thanks for another great review. There is any app inside that allow to structure a weightlifting/gym workout with reps, weights, rest like Garmin or Coros?
FYI I got the Gt Runner on amazon to test it out, it's the running version of the GT3 and it connects to the H10 check strap. Seems similar to the GT3 just lighter weight and has a few more metrics when you're running.
You did?! That’s great. I tried to pair the GT3 to my H10 and it would not find it. It looks awesome just reviewing the specs. Keep me posted on what your experience is like. Thanks!
@@fitgearhunter I saw a video for GT3 where it was connected to HRM too
Hi, what other metrics does it show? I want to buy one od those but i don't want to buy gt3 if it missing any features that the runner has
Thank you for the video, it's very helpful! A short question, did you check out if it's possible to customize an interval timer for hiit workouts?
so sorry for delay - good question - I have to think it's possible but honestly don't know! Have you tried it?
I’ve just sold my GT 3 after 6 days of usage. I’d been a Garmin user for 6 years and going back to Garmin again.
Pros of GT 3;
- The most accurate HR sensor in the world after Apple Watch, more precise than Garmin, Polar etc. And also Pulse OX.
- Good sleep tracking; not as good as Fitbit or Polar but better than Garmin
- External HR sensor support; easily connected to my HR belt purchased from Decathlon
- Superb build quality and design
- It has advanced training metrics such as training effect and recovery time
Cons
- HR sensor is magnicifent but lacks frequency; records HR data every 5 seconds, not every second
- Only shows active calories, not showing overall calorie per day.
- It measures stress and doing it in accurate way but it doesn’t mean anything, it lacks functionality because they don’t have Body Battery like Garmin or Resources like Suunto and this makes this HRV data useless.
- You can not place unlimited widgets on the home screen. For instance it doesn’t have a seperate steps widget only seen on watch face or rings.
I think that is a pretty good summary! What Garmin do you think you will go back to? Because I really love the AMOLED screen, but the Venu does not have Training Load, etc. But yeah, Garmin's Body Battery is killer, I wish other wearable companies would come up with something similar.
You could changed the HR mode.
I found this on Huawei website:
You can set MONITORING MODE to either Smart or Real-time.
Smart mode:
The heart rate measurement will be performed once every 10 minutes for low-intensity activities (such as when you are not moving).
The heart rate measurement will be performed once every 10 minutes for moderate-intensity activities (such as when you are walking).
The heart rate measurement will be performed once a second for high-intensity activities (such as when you are running) and it takes 6 to 10 seconds to display the first heart rate value, though this may vary between individuals.
Real-time mode: The heart rate measurement will be performed once a second for any type of activity intensity.
Were you able to track your training index? Any use for fitness and fatigue levels?
Thanks for the review! I just wanted to ask you why is that you need a chest band for the GT3, I've seen another video from you where you compare the hr sensor with a chest band and it seems to do really good in workouts.
Another question I have is if you know if the GT2 has also all of these training analytics as to the GT3, especially the recovery time suggestion. I'm considering if it is worth spending almost double.
Thank you again!
Hey! And yes - the GT3 is a much better device than the GT2, namely bc of the heart rate sensor. It is good in workouts but I always suggest a chest strap to make sure - thanks!
@@fitgearhunter Finally got the GT3 today. Thank you!
@@zolen3046 Nice! It’s been a couple of days. How are you liking it so far?
@@zolen3046 Is it not the most killer screen?!
@@fitgearhunter Hi! I ordered on Amazon and didn't even pick it up yet because of the eastern holidays. I'll get it tomorrow and I'll tell you these days when I try it. But since I only tried Amazfit band 5 so far sure I'll be pretty satisfied. Cheers!
Great video! Can this connect to the Polar Verity Sense?
Thank you! And yes it should, but I can’t confirm unfortunately. Sorry!
How can you check the accuracy of calories burned within workouts?
Will this watch work with U.S Android phones? Sorry for the question but I thought Huawei products were banned from the U.S?
Are you aware of any HR straps that can connect to two devices that are compatible with this watch? I have read in your comment section the Wahoo Tickr X is capable. Still no support for H10 for example? Thanks!
So funny you should ask this! I literally for the first time in months forgot the strap to my polar H 10 for my workout today, which I usually connect to three different devices to keep the stats going for Polar, Suunto, and Garmin obviously. I had with me the less expensive PowrLabs chest strap, and the Suunto smart sensor belt and Polar H7 which is are the two only devices that connects to the GT3 - was so frustrating as all are single channel and not ANT+ on top! No I don’t think they’ve added any devices to the optional lineup, that I am aware. And I somewhat don’t think they will
Oh and yes I’m not sure about the Wahoo Tickr X - that has not been verified.
Hold up. Someone said they got H10 to connect. A trusted subscriber. Off to test it now
@@fitgearhunter Thanks for giving it a shot
I bought the watch but I don’t have crossfit and fitness workouts inside it ? How to add them
Yes it is slightly a pain, but completely doable. Go into the work out list, scroll all the way down to the bottom, click "custom", click the plus sign at the top of the menu and you will find 1,000,001s that you can simply add quickly by checking the box. Let me know if this helps!
Unique comparison! Thank you for the vid!
What is your personal feedback of GT3 overall so far?
Do not buy the GT3 42mm version. It is not made for sports.
I noticed that the watch using GPS in running, bike or walk uses an average of aproxametly 17 to 20% of the battery. And this is with all extra things off.
So since I was not able to do any activity over 5h to 6h, I decided to send it to warranty.
The report said an anomaly was detected, and they replaced the board. When I got it back I went on 59 minute walk, the baterry went from 82 to 65%!!
It has been sent a total of 3, and their final reply is that it is the normal consumption for the watch and I quote "This topic has been escalated to Huawei's R&D (Research and Development) department for a more detailed check, which may improve the equipment's performance in similar situations."
That is not at all normal. If they have the option of hiking, trail that are activities that go way on more than 5 or 6h. What happens? Easy you run out of baterry before your exercise is done.
In no manner can this even be considered a sportswatch nevermind for hiking, trail or biking or any type of extreme activity. And the brand will not assume that is has made a watch incapable of long hours with GPS and barometer on.
I have been totally ripped off buy the brand! And the brand says it's a nromal value fo consumption. If it is normal at least put in in the specifications "not adequate for any type of training over 6 hours with GPS usage"
Have to go back to my cheap but durable battery on my amazfit pace.
Omg that sounds like a nightmare - I’m so sorry you’ve had such a bad experience. Crazy you’ve gone through three devices!
GT3 bike riding session not making sense every time I try, saying Walk and after 5 minutes Run repeats till reach to target. May be just me or anyone has experienced with this?
Oh gosh that sounds so messed up. And so frustrating! I did not experience that personally but I did not test extensively some of the GPS outdoor activities
Hello...... Is there a solution to get rid of the beta mode in the Huawei Watch GT3
Hmmm - I don't know about options there honestly. Sorry!
Oh thank you

In the main app screen go to
ME ---- MY DATA
There you'll find training load and training index (showing fitness and fatigue figures)
I contact Huawei support and this is their reply:
The running ability index and training index are currently only supported on the HUAWEI WATCH GT 3 and HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner. To obtain both index data, user needs to start running course in Huawei Health app.
Oh I totally understand what you were saying. Unfortunately, it’s not there for me! iPhone user so maybe not on the app
@@fitgearhunter I just downloaded Huawei health app on my iPad and it shows / the same metrics on my Android phone (with minor difference in their titles). It could be a region bssed problem?
I noticed a missing features on IOS
