- Jeff Nolan, Hard Rock's resident historian and all-around music nerd, sits down with Kip Elder, one of the best luthiers in the country, to talk about some of the pieces from Hard Rock's memorabilia collection.
Here, Jeff and Kip show off one of Malcolm Young's insanely cool guitars, a 1959 Gretsch White Falcon that Malcom used on both the Back In Black Tour and the For Those About To Rock Tour. Jeff and Kip also discuss a little about the process of "rehabbing" older memorabilia. "To fix or not to fix?" is the question the memorabilia department asks all the time. - Hudba
No mention of the story about why Malcom quit this one and switched back to the Jet. Apparently the electronics were broken in some fashion the whole time he was using it. His tech got it repaired and Malcom didn't like the way it sounded anymore.
That guitar should be over here in Australia where AC/DC started, and it should be in a glass cabinate.
Australia literally threw AC/DC out of the country, when they started. Thats why they have such a huge fanbase in both Europe and US
@@UserUli we didnt throw them out at all they went to america because thats where you go if you want major popularity
@@Nickgaming-sy5og i totally agree
Malcolm and Angus were Scottish born but emigrated to Australia as kids, so fuck you acdc are scottish
Agreed 🤘
RIP Malcolm a top top top top-man
“Plugged into some old amps this thing rocks!!”....doesn’t plug it in....
The guitar is the same size as Malcom
lol ikr
Very cool guitars from the most worthy unsung player of all. And he's a decent guy from my limited experience.
Greatest rythm guitarist of all time. And that's it
@Bad Boys Boogie I don't think he ment anything by "and that's it" besides that nobody was a better rythm guitar player.
How about, um plugging it in?
Malcolm Young's guitar.
About to rock.
Back in Black.
So why was this guitar not plugged in for the demo??????????!!!!!!
Thinking the same thing, was waiting for him to plug in and hear the tone!
I think it could be to do with the Project-O-Sonic system, but I’m not sure if Malcolm rewired it normally
Is that the great Jeff Nolan? I thought i recognized that lick at the end!! We know the hiiiiiigh fooorward. Cool stuff. I Love YOU ROCKS!!
holy hell ive always wondered what happened to this guitar
I would kill to own that beauty!
great guitar.
anyhow Malcolm played it only during Back in Black tour. then the neck was broken and after repair he sold it because it didn't sound just right. (have read it in some Malcolm's interview)
+MrTooco The neck was smashed in transit and he didn't think it was right after it was fixed, however he actually had two, he was using a modern centre block one on his last tour for some songs.
+Djarra hi! thanx for info! glad that now i've found out what was that guitar on last tour
Any chance of demoing the stereo sounds & all the 4 switches at the upper bout?
Why didnt you run it thruogh an amp? Why wasnt the guitar tuned before filming? Why do the strings buzz like an old bee's nest? :/
Where is the museum where i could see this beautiful istrument in real life?
would of been great to as that thing plugged in
Hello you are always there?
Girls Got Rhythm!
Conheço perfeitamenta essa maravilhosa guitarra de Malcolm usado no dizco back in black não sei pq malcom nunca mais usou ela
ele deixou de usar ela, pois durante uma turnê (Do for those about rock, se não me engano) o técnico de som teria mexido nela e tirou aquele som característico dela.
@@ace575 sim. Achei um vídeo dele tocando com ela em 2009 em um show da tour Black ice
@@kauagomes3818 aquela lá não é essa mesma, porém, é bem parecida
@@ace575 ataa, mas realmente essa guitarra marcou história
Just out of curiosity, how much is the White Falcon worth considering it once belonged to Malcolm Young?
+knopfler1993 Upwards of 35/40 thousand dollars, easy.
Thanks mate
Since I don't want kids, I'd give one of my balls for that guitar. Doubt anyone wants one of my balls though.
@@anemoia2661 probably quite a bit more than that now
You cant do this heavy bendings on Malcolms gauge. I am 6 foot tall and I play those strings in an AC/DC Coverband sometimes. You just cant bend 57"-13" strings. And he plays chords btw.
I'll validate what you're saying. I was Angus in an AC/DC tribute, and our Malcolm had a Gretsch Duo Jet. He strung it with the .013s like mal. There wasn't much bending possible. It became a totally different guitar strung that heavily.
He had a powerful swing aswell!, he even broke a string while playing live at Donington in '91.
What has being 6 foot tall got to do with bending strings ffs?
It's not Malcolm's guitar he just used hit on the Black Ice tour tour I don't think he got rid of his guitar
Il l’a joué sur la tournée back in black en 80/81!
the one he used on the black ice tour was another one, very similar, but it was another.
he filled his guitar with socks right
He did that with his Firebird in the late 70s after he pulled the neck and middle pickups out, the socks filled the holes since those guitars are actually semi-hollow.
they are stoned !
hey can you send me this guitar? i need it. :P
Two other good guitarists that played a White Falcon is Sylvain Sylvain and the late great Johnny Thunders!!
Alex Lifeson of Rush is well known for playing his White Falcon.
Don't forget Billy Duffy....
@@AceBaseKingOfSpace Whenever I hear or think of Gretsch I always immediately go to Billy Duffy!
You can almost imagine that Falcon going, "whoa, never been played like that..." No disrespect to Mal.
Not pummel power chords- WHY THE FUCK NOT?!?!?!
:(
It doesnt rock...its not plugged in...and why would you plug into an EVH set up....shite
You play "girls got rhythm" very bad
I doubt it’s Mals. He doesn’t even tell how he acquired it. I call bullshit on this.
Knuckleheads again! No fucking Marshall stack? What's the point???
