We stopped by Tonopah for the night when driving through on vacation, (from the UK), we thought the town super interesting & friendly; stopped in a wonderful room in The Belvada for the night - would love to return one day.
Declining population! Half the average income that Nevada has! Fix up a property taxes go up and value but no one can afford to buy or rent it! Nothing in the way of jobs or services either!
I used to live there for about 6-7 years, and the schools were awful, just like the lack of an actual grocery store and restaurants. AND there wasn't even a hospital/doctors office, there was only a clinic which was still not much help so when my mom really needed professional medical care we needed to drive all the way to freaking Las Vagas' hospitals/ healthcare I'm glad my family got the chance to move away from that misery you would call a town...
Traveling through one can see it’s a dying city. I was going to stay at one of the few hotels but the place didn’t seem safe enough to leave my vehicle unattended. Not because my truck is an expensive vehicle. It’s just a 2006 pickup truck but it has good tires and the locals don’t have those things.
Let's face it, most of rural North America looks just like this. I'm in Edmonton and you can literally go from 800'+ tall skyscrapers downtown to eerie ghost towns in like half an hour. Once a town's resource is dead the population declines and what's left is what's left. Think of a nightclub at closing. This is what's left over at 2 AM... I get it, I'm from an area like that so yes, siding on an old house is quite often... ahem... optional... I've seen many an exposed shack like this and that's just in the last few months...
Quite depressing. I noticed the same when I visited. It’s a dying city which is being propped up only by a small tourist business. It’s been losing population for a long time
Tonopah has Nevada's Secret Airforce Testing range and a Huge Mining industry. Lithium boom may come shortly making it swell in population. The state of the city is more Cultural than economic.
Utility services usually stop & the towns roll up. Or the jobs are not around. Sad, considering that Nevada is a popular place to live. Lots of towns like that in Texas too.
Yes, it is. Spent the night at the Mizpah, played a little blackjack, had some drinks, and relaxed in their gorgeous lobby. The bar across the street was great too. If youre into ghost towns or history, its definitely worth the stop.
Looking up the town it lists the population at 23.. but I see several brand new houses being built and sold.. Maybe Bill Gates is starting to build his company? That would bring workers to the area.

Thank you, for your input. I am from Texas and will be going later this year.

Thanks for this. Been doing some research on small town living in Nevada for when I retire. I think I can scratch Tonopah off the list. Yikes.
3:09 minute mark. I lived in that house when I was age 7.

@@Willow2budo you think it would be a good place to invest in a property?

You are confusing it with Tonopah AZ, Tonopah NV has a pop of about 2K. 😊
