- The abandoned secret base in Wilkocin has been tempting us with its secrets for a long time. We decided to take a quick trip to check out this post-Soviet command post.

The forest in Lower Silesia, near Wilkocin, is the area of a former training ground, first German, then Soviet. There are a number of clues that this is the Backup Command Post of the Western Theater of War Operations, but it is not certain because it was a secret facility of the Soviet troops. From January 1, 1989, the Reserve Command Post of the 4th Air Army, codenamed "Mgła", operated here.
Some of the buildings served as the headquarters of the meteorological service, and the bunker housed a communications center and a command post. More information can be provided by discussion in the comments, which, as always, we encourage :)
If a conflict had broken out during the Cold War, the key location for the Soviet Army in Lower Silesia would have been Wilkocin, Bory Dolnośląskie, south of Przemków. The headquarters of the Northern Group of Forces, which numbered nearly 60,000 in the late 1980s, was located here. soldiers. Even though the official command was in Legnica, an underground city was prepared for the officers with kilometers of shelters under the Wilkocin forests, which have survived to this day and are available to visitors.
Both complexes are open to visitors, although that may be too strong a statement. They're just not fenced or walled up, and entry is easy. Additionally, in the center of Wilkocin there is an information board with plans of bunkers and shelters, which encourages people to visit the place. However, next to the bunkers themselves, several boards placed by the Przemków Forest District inform about the prohibition of entry and danger, which is a reminder of your own responsibility when visiting.
Additionally, it is worth knowing that bunkers are adapted for bats' hibernating areas, so you should avoid noise, flashlight or lighting a fire so as not to disturb their hibernation. Educational activities in the bunkers are available from May 1 to October 31, so you should avoid visits during the remaining months so as not to disturb the bats. It is worth remembering this when going to this fascinating place in Lower Silesia.
