Does forgiveness mean i have to reconcile and continue to allow myself to be abused. I forgive and walk away from people betray me and dont even care... narcissistc people, family members, spouses will betray you cheat on you and feel entitled doing it. Best thing is to forgive...do not stoop to their level no matter how it hurts...and guard your heart against them by resisting the temptation to retaliate. Forgive and stay away from them.

Forgiveness should be immediate, as God has forgiven us.
Reconciliation comes after offending parties repent and ask for forgiveness.
Reconciliation and trust may take a while, but forgiveness must happen right away.
Forgiveness and reconciliation are two different things.

The "liberty" that Paul was taking about was liberty of not needing to be justified through the keeping of the Law. We are free from trying to be saved through being good, by doing more good works than bad works, etc.
Paul said very clearly that though we are free from trying to be justified by work, we are not free to sin.
Galatians 5:13 says...13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Smoking one cigarette or having an alcoholic beverage once in awhile isn't going to cause you to lose your salvation. But remember that our bodies are temples for the Holy Spirit. We should WANT to take care of our physical health. So chainsmoking and binge drinking obviously isn't going to promote physical, mental, emotional or spiritual health!

We believe that Jesus was speaking about loving all people, not just other Christians. Hope this helps!
