In this short clip join me on a Qantas Boeing 737-800 landing at Sydney International Airport (YSSY) on a golden winter (it is southern hemisphere) afternoon. The clip starts with the plane passing Chatswood (North Shore CBD). Then it reaches Sydney Harbor with landmark Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney CBD and Sydney Tower (Sydney's tallest structure and the second tallest observation tower in the Southern Hemisphere) on the left side. Moments later, it touches down gently on Runway 34R with the opening of thrust reverser clearly seen. This was filmed onboard Qantas flight QF535, from Brisbane to Sydney , on 18th May 2022.

Sydney has grown and spread so much since I was a kid, I can still remember the opera house being built I was 9 when it opened and Centrepoint tower "Sydney eye" being built and when the QVB was all boarded up they almost bulldozed it, it's like another world now, great video love it thanks ❤️

I also remember that time. Sydney had such a boring skyline with everything around the same height, and it was amazing to see it improving so much.
I also remember the amount of pollution back then. The smog would envelop the city in dense fog-like clouds for a couple of weeks straight, usually around April, back then, especially in the early mornings. I would love the sight of it, because from Kings Cross we would see the tops of buildings sticking through the top of the smog layer. But it was very bad for health. Sydney is so much cleaner than it was back then. People have mostly forgotten how bad Sydney smog was back then, but I remember.
When I got to know Murray Rose, he told me he was amazed at how clean the harbor has become. He said that when he was swimming at Redland at Double Bay back in the 50's that had to take turps with them to get rid of the tar and oil that would get on his skin when swimming in the harbor water. I remember the oil slicks on the harbor from the time when I was a watchman down at Darling Harbour, and it was still a working cargo port and the rail goods yard was still there. Murray was amazed how clean the harbor water had become in the decades he was away.
Even places like Parramatta and Chatswood which were such horrible places back then have become attractive places to go now. Even Mascot, down near the airport is now a vibrant and attractive community around the high rises, while back in the 1960's it was just grimy and uninviting.
I was living in the Cross when Centrepoint Tower was being built. It was fascinating watching the central column being built, then jacking the restaurant section slowly up the column. I remember the newly opened Opera House. I remember the building of the MLC Tower. I remember well the fight to save the QVB. My local library was in the QVB back then.
I loved the opening of Martin Place. I was living in Woolloomooloo then, when it was a squalid slum, before the building of public housing. I was a member of the Woolloomooloo Trainspotter's Club, which of course disbanded the day the first Eastern Suburbs train ran, because the whole point of the club was that there was no trains to spot, and we were merely observing the building of the new line.
Sydney grew from a bit of a self-absorbed hick town, to the wonderful cosmopolitan metropolis that I am proud to call home. The Opera House was really a turning point when the city started to really want to be something special. When the beer culture of 'They're A Weird Mob' gave way to the real multiculturalism that makes the city so stimulating these days.
I now live in a CBD tower, something that was not possible when I was young. I remember how it was illegal for cafes to have tables on the street, and the fight to get laws changed. Sydney without street eating is now unthinkable, but it never used to happen as late as the 1970's.
Sydney's changes are not perfect. It took too long to start expanding the rail and motorway networks, but over all it has improved dramatically, and these days it looks fantastic compared to what it once was.

Sydney is easily amongst the top five most beautiful cities to fly in to. Sadly, once the new Western Sydney Airport opens in 2026, there will be a portion of new arrivals who will not be able to experience these views. And since it is likely that it will be the budget flights that go to the new airport, I will probably be amongst those who miss out.

I did not do any configuration for my iphone 13 Pro, and the default setting is used. The only thing that I know is 4K 60fps. 11Pro should not be quite different from 13 Pro.@@vanessasvetec5366
