(And usually regretted it)
@@apurvboseSame. 12 hours workday, 6 days a week. The one day off, all I want to do is sleep.
I absolutely loved the first remnant. Different rewards depending on how you took certain bosses down, which led to some serially long sessions trying to beat the bosses the exact way, randomized boss encounters and souls like combat and saving. The story was light but interesting still, and the different worlds you went to were fun. If Remnant 2 is more of the same, I'd be happy.
@@whysoserious4274This comment is reaching SOOO hard😂 They are one and the same. You must nitpick the fact that small apples aren't apples😂😂
@@jayjaymerritt2785 he’s saying the game is a gem… seems like you’re the one reaching for a problem lol
A big aspect is the procedural generation. Instead of just reorganizing things randomly like most games, the realms actually have multiple map bases on them so things feel fresh. Sometimes you're in the slums in a realm, other times you're in the palace area, there are also multiple stories in each realm so you get a different overall experience every time. It's pretty interesting actually.
Also, why didn't you guys mention this aspect of the game? This is the type of game that needs to have good replayability and it does, but it wasn't even mentioned in the review.
Procedural generation is only good if used properly. Otherwise it leads to soulless games.
Jake does just briefly in the beginning and not as thoroughly as you just did, sometimes Jake seems to focus more on telling the viewer his experience rather than the game itself, which isn’t inherently bad just can leave out some details from time to time
@@tylermaccallum3529 exactly, which is why I wish they would have talked about that aspect a lot more, because that's the thing that sets this game apart from other looter shooters. Fortunately, other reviewers have talked at length about this and it seems it was well Implemented.
I really enjoyed Remnant I. I really enjoyed how alternate methods of defeating bosses gave different rewards. The same goes for certain side quests. I do hope that the RNG is tweaked some. Having to re-roll worlds because I need an amulet or ring for a build that only appears in specific situations on specific maps was more tedious than necessary.
true, the rng for some weapons are borderline ridiculous and we have to use a world reader script to save time.
@@tomshepard9050 Console couldn't even do that (unless I missed something). I'm glad I'm not alone in my sentiments haha.

I'm currently playing Before the Ashes funny enough while listening to this
Same. I loved the first game. I gotta go to work in like 30 minutes. Hahaha.
Can't wait to get home. I'm buying the early access edition.
Game looks like it's Albion online meets borderlands which should not be good but it is 😂 but Undawn still better release this month
@@powerfulshammy it's dark souls with guns - that's how first one was described, and it's quite accurate
Loved the first one, put probably over 100 hours in with my sniper/crit build. One of the issues I had was it being really hard to play solo bc I just get one- or two-shotted by 75%+ of enemies due to how my build was structured, so I'm really excited to see how the build system has improved and evolved. I played it on PS4 with two buddies after it was a monthly game back in Summer 2021, and we loved it so much we bought all the DLC and replayed it a few times. One of the biggest reasons I finally bit the bullet on upgrading to a PS5 recently was to be able to play this game as well with those same buddies (PLEASE indie devs, find a way to do crossplay on co-op first games!).
Beyond pumped to dive back in!
Thank you guys for using the wide-screen format for the videos. I truly appreciate that in finally getting to use the real estate my phone offers without having to sacrifice some of the picture.
Remnant from the ashes felt like a love letter to gamers. It truly felt like the devs made the game for fun rather than money. It was one of the few games where i bought the dlc to support the devs rather than serve my own gamer needs. Gunfire games had lightning in a bottle with the first one and Im so pumped that they are seemingly giving us a beefed up version of what i already adored.
I agree! So happy to see so many people give this team the recognition. They really have made, in my opinion, the best co op experience I have had.
Same. I bought the dlc and didn't even really play it, I just wanted to support the game. Amazing and cannot wait for the sequel.
It absolutely is!!! How many games care about how the cloth flows on the armor??? It’s just a testament on the quality of details. (Fukk BalderGate 3 with their cardboard clothing)
I played the shtt out of Remnant, modded it with Remnant from hell, hundreds of hours of actually making my own characters BLENDER to port it into the game. People don’t realize the modding potential is huge with Unreal Engine.
Meh, got bored a few hours in. It was just a janky TPS trying to be a souls like. Seems like the same thing happened here.
Went into the first game with my friend, and we had a blast. We both ended up Platinuming the game, and it became one of our favorite games.
I love this channel and the before you buy videos! I always watch them! It's so good to see if a game is for me or not and I even watch them for games I normally would not be interested in
I had never even heard of the first game until last week. I saw a video about the second one coming out and checked out the first one on the PS store. Apparently it was already added in my PS library for free. I downloaded it and gave it a try, I have been hooked ever since, such a fine game. Looking forward to part 2!!!
You are always giving a real gamer feedback without being overhyped. Thank you Jake
first one had a far amount of jank but the things that mattered were great, multiple victory conditions for loot meant fighting a boss or doing some quests again was a good thing, the leveling system was uncapped so your character was actually getting stronger over the potential hundreds of hours you could play, the gun mod system was limited but being able to slot in different mods to some guns allowed decent build variety, and one of the best parts was the adventure mode that let you roll a separate instance of the worlds without messing with your story progression so you could focus on farming the individual worlds loot rather then having to start over. one of the dlcs even added a rogue like mode that had skins you could unlock for most armors in the game fav was void carapace turned what was already my main set black with glowing blue veins that actually had an animation on them. there was also a prequal rouge light game called Chronos before the ashes if you are more interested a standard fantasy style rather then third person shooter solo only though
I loved the 1st one as it was a hidden gem for my crew. We didn’t expect the level of fun and replay-ability it had so I’m excited for this part 2 with better graphics!
Same here, we got it for free on epic games and me and the boys played it for a good while and enjoyed it through and through! I just hope the co-op on 2 is as great, if
not better!
The first remnant was one of the best games I have ever played. Drop in and out co-op, so it’s easy to play with friends and you actually get experience and loot from other worlds. So excited for this game. Highly, highly recommend.
God dude from the ashes was sooo good. I’m so damn stoked to play this one tomorrow 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

I've been playing early and solo as well. I have about 4 hours in as gunslinger and I'm having a blast. I'm happy to hear that it's only going to get better from here. I played Remnant 1 a little but I took a break once that ended up lasting forever, you know how it is.
Loved the first one, was super happy when they announced this one since I wasn’t expecting a sequel
I don't think any of us were. When they stopped making DLC for the first game, I was rather depressed, because it felt like they were leaving far too much on the table when there was so much room left to expand on what they'd already made. When I saw the news that they were making a _full sequel,_ my jaw dropped.
Happy to see the melee has had a much needed improvement from the first game!
Great before you buy as always. These are the vids I wait for before deciding 👍🏼
Although the main campaign story is generic, the side stories within each world you explore, notably Losomn (the Bloodborne world), are exceptional. These side stories include; an Asylum filled with a race who are being hunted by a mystical creature in their dreams, NPC’s that request you to track down their lost loved ones, a preacher type character who has tasked himself with saving an entire planet and, depending on your choices, the outcomes may be drastic. To disregard story elements such as these is a disservice to what Remnant 2 has to offer.
My first world was the blood born world I had to re role would not recommend as a level one champaign
remnant 2 is phenomenal. after putting around 1k hours into the first one i am incredibly pleased with the sequel.....they smoothed out alot of our complaints like having unlimited stamina when not in battle haha. still has the fun remnant feel that we all love!
Awesome video and im glad u took the time to actually dig into this one! I have currently over 60 hours in the game and im still rerolling and finding new stuff! By far an upgrade from the last game! I was shocked at the amount of replay value is in this one.. They really listened to the community on this game and were able to keep everything that made Remnant special from other games in the genre.. Also, i put a dumb amount of hours in the first one, well over 200+ hours.. Until they released this sequel, i was still running and helping new ppl in the last game, just an amazing game.. Xbox btw
I freaking loved the first one. Went in without many expectations but I just loved the experience. I put a couple hundred hours in it and it's simply one of my all time favorites. Really waiting for tomorrow so I can finally play the second one.
Super stoked to play this! First one was an absolute gem and one of my fav games off all time!
Don't buy this game expecting an incredible story.
Buy this game for the amazing gameplay.
Awesome review! It's good to see a game coming out in a proper state these days.
I will definitely play the first one as soon as I can since my pc is getting too weak for these new AAA games but I will also check out the sequel when I get a chance.
Hopefully you have a 40 series card because the optimization on my 3080 ti leaves a lot to be desired.
I loved the first remnant , the fact that your actions and the way you killed bosses really mattered and rewarded you with different loot based on that felt great . I’m really excited about this one
This one has that too. There are 4 ways to "beat" The ravager in this one..
@@SixballQ45 oh rlly ? That’s awesome as soon as I have money to spend I’ll buy this remnant , can’t wait to play
I enjoyed the first but found it pretty “samey “ throughout. I debated getting this one but my buddy convinced me to get it early and I absolutely love it. It’s an upgrade in every way, shape and form. The fact that we all started in completely different worlds and campaigns, plus they all have meaningful npcs, missions, dialog and lore makes it so fun to explore. You actually don’t want to miss even a small side dungeon because it could have some really cool npc mission with great rewards
I spent 100+ hours in the 1st remnant! love it so much! and i cant wait to dive into this one! its so good to see that the game is a complete game and not being released half baked like most games these days!
The diversity of the settings in the game is amazing, I hope each setting has armour that suits the setting to mix and match different styles
Who’s here cuz it’s on ps plus extra now
Absolutely, I trust this mans reviews. So he will decide if I play it for free😅
I played Remnant along with a couple of friends as we had a blast trying out the various challenges to unlock all the weapons we could.
I absolutely love the first game I beat the game like four or five different times on new saves. I really liked the customization of builds. You can have a ring that increases fire damage and a weapon mod that shoots fire balls that stacks fire damage and then pair that with a critical hit chance ring and the fire ticks have a chance to do more damage. You would make your build based on what bosses you fought because they drop different weapons/mods/armour. So you could play the game 5 times and might not encounter every boss
For a solo player, this feels like a total different game. It's at least 3x harder
Normal mode is way too hard solo. I played for about 2 hours and kept dying right at the start over and over. Git gud I know… but I don’t think I’m going to keep playing. It’s just frustrating and the dialogue is so bad I avoided talking to everyone.
Got the first game for free with ps plus… honestly one of the good games that I played… very underrated… looking forward to this one!
Loved the first Remnant! Got it from Epic game store last year for free and put in weeks and hours playing it co-op with my cousin, who like me, is also a mid-20s dude with no free time. These days I rarely ever play anything long-term, and that speaks to how fun this series is! I'm definitely copping Remnant 2!
If anyone missed Remnant 1 you should check it out. I had it sitting in my Steam library for a year before I checked it out and I ended up playing it all the way through well into NG+. I liked it so much I even got the original game Chronos Before the Ashes which I just started.
Holdddd uppp jake where has the starting gameranx noise gone I look forward to it every video 😭
400 hours in first one, absolutely loved it. Pre-ordered this and CAN NOT WAIT to start playing it tomorrow on PC!
Hells yeah I'm gonna play it! I loved the first one and I'm kinda shocked you guys didn't gut it. Definitely coop is the way to go but playing solo rewards exploration a lot. Thank you guys1
I loved the first game, spent many hours on it with the homies and solo.
The one thing I remember having a huge-issue with is: trying to get a specific boss to appear in a zone, everyone zone had like, 2 bosses that could appear or something. You had to reload the zone, fight through to the boss, (oops, it's not the boss you wanted) try again. Some quests and NPCs were randomized too I think.
That’s the point of the game they not going to just give you everything at smh earn it the game is a puzzle at the same time bih
I’m jumping in on early access tomorrow, can’t wait! Always happy to get input from your videos, thanks for what you do!
First game was one of the best co-op games I’ve ever played. So happy to play through the second with some friends
I clocked in 196 hours on Remnant From The Ashes. I played so much and knew so much that I would be a well known guide for new players in the at-the-time Playstation Community. Me and my best friend who is a huge From Software games (Dark Souls, Sekiro, etc etc) fan and me who isnt so much a From Software fan as I am a huge fan of games like Remnant. Dodgey shoot em ups just like RETURNAL, played it so much and we both loved it, and now with Remnant 2 Ultimate Ed on sale Im about to buy it but, hes gotta see this first. Rules of gamesharing. I imagine Im gonna buy it and we are gonna love it. Thankyou Jake!

I loved Remnant 1 and its replayability + Boss Design. It.s very Souls-like. Hopefully, they do a seasons thing/DLC content to progress the lore of the universe while adding more gameplay in this version of Remnant 2. Definitely going to try it.
If Diablo were a shooter this'd be it. or ARPG + Shooter + Souls-like Bosses. Especially with the sound effects of the weapons and how statisfying it sounds. While, matching the gameplay is something else. Sign me up!

I never got around to playing through the first game, but I’ve been playing remnant 2 on PS5. It’s one of my favourite games released this year so far, and that’s with me playing solo
I really enjoyed the first game, it has a very different feel to the world and game structure which put me off at first but I got into the flow of things pretty quickly and really started to see how good of a game it is so even though I don't pre order anymore after I saw the positive reviews and knowing how much I liked the first game I just pre ordered it yesterday and I can't wait.
I wanted to like the first one but as a solo player it was too difficult alone
Just picked this up a few days ago. Gotta say it’s pretty solid and definitely like it better than the first one. Difficulty is something they didn’t turn down that’s for sure hahaha
Still looking unique. I loved first game on PS4 after first shoot. Felt so good.
Man, no offense Gameranx / full offense gaming industry, but this is one of the few "ByB" vids I saw the thumbnail for and was legitimately interested in
First Remnant was pretty decent, def felt like a 1st entry to a series. I hope they pulled off some fleshing out for this one, would be awesome. Beat the first one, not a boast I just don't follow through to completion on games often, so that sticks out to me as having something going right to keep me engaged, despite the flaws I could feel while playing.
On to the video!
Merci Gameranx crew, for all the content and effort over the years. MUCH RESPECT!
Getting attacked from behind and constantly having to be aware of your surroundings is par for the course for soulsborne games. I like the difficulty aspect.
The first one had audio cues for a lot of the attacks. Not sure if this one doesn't or the reviewer didn't learn them.
@@bslygh I underestimated how important headphones are for this, too. (Not just with this game, but in general.)
@@bslygh yeah they are there, he definitely just didn't learn or notice them.
It's also part of the team aspect. Remnant was really heavily team oriented. Bosses were tanky, there were relentless waves of mobs even in one on one fights, and the weapon system and rogue like world progression giving everyone different weapons and armor options made everything more team oriented. Getting attacked from behind was a part of it all, but it was easier with a team.
I played remnant 1 from launch and basically got all my friends to buy it over time so i had an excuse to do more and more playthroughs. I quite enjoy remnant 2 and the fact secrets are still being found is great, in remnant: from the ashes gunfire games released dungeons, gear, etc as free downloads and even had a good dlc at a very reasonable price so I love remnant 2 right now but I also think it has a bright future.
Definitely getting this, the first game was a blast it's only a shame it was a bit short in term of gameplay.
To answer your questions jake! Im getting it on ps5 my gripe with the first one is that it wasn't cross play. The reasons that a small issue is due to some a few of my friends play on pc and my pc is cheeks (i build it in 2015).
However i had a Blast with the first one i had a lot of fun with it. I felt coop was more challenging with friends but i LOVED IT it forced cooperation and idk it just worked really well. I didnt put as many hours into it as a lot of fans of the game but itll always remain as a really fond memory which is why the second is a must buy. It one of my favorite games that can be coop the enemies were nice too ill never forget getting a axe thrown at my face...
There just isnt any games out there that has a coop op story that you can play through nowadays anyway... especially one that has replayablity and difficulty. In third person... its niche and it also good too!
I decided to give this a try after all of the glowing reviews - I’ve played quite a bit of Elden Ring, so I thought that the ‘souls like’ difficulty wouldn’t put me off. Played about half an hour before running into my first major boss - some sort of sewer blob thing. You have to run around a series of walkways and pillars to be able to get a line of site on it, but if you make one wrong step, you fall off into a sea of millions of smaller blob creatures, and then have to proceed to try and find a ladder in darkness to climb back up to shoot at the boss again. Meanwhile, the boss is firing lasers, homing missile attacks, and homing exploding orbs, all of which deal massive amounts of damage. Every time I got back up to shoot at the boss, I’d get knocked off again a few seconds later, which meant that stuff was constantly dealing damage to me, whilst I was barely able to do any at all.
After about 12 failed attempts and not even reaching half the bosses health, I turned the game off. It’s difficult - but it felt unfairly difficult, to the point where I felt like I wasn’t even having fun anymore.
As a person who avoids souls games purely because of the difficulty, playing with friends is what makes this game fun for me. Coming up with new strats and tactics for the bosses is the highlight of the entire experience.
Try that out if you can.
I thought he was a bit unfair too, my first boss aswell. I did beat him on my second try though. Mostly a gimmick and i figured out all the moves on my first try wasn't so bad on the second. Think you have been taking the easy route in ER.
@@forturet4115 I don't know why people think that going for the masochist option in a Souls game is some sort of badge of honour, and unless you're punishing yourself by making the game far harder than it needs to be, rather than just playing smarter and using the tools at your disposal, like you would ANY other game, then you're not playing it 'properly'? Honestly, it's so cringe.
Like he said in the video, might be a good idea to leave that boss for now and gear up. Player skill is obviously a big part of this game, but so is gear. You can craft up some absolutely ridiculous builds that let you slop your way through bosses. So kinda not unlike Elden Ring in that way.
The Chicago type writer was my favorite weapon in the first.

I didn't play the 1st remnant but this part 2, im starting to like it... spent 50+ hours on it already farming special guns etc and constantly rerolling maps.
the first remnant was so much fun. after the dlcs i easily sunk like 300 hours into it. glad all the reviews for the sequel have been good
I don't need this I already got it. But I will leave a like and subscribe.
What I found great about this game is that if you die, it's ok. You do keep the things you have collected. I found loads of bosses who wiped the floor with me, so I went away and came back when I felt I had got stronger. Sure enough I killed them I felt a sense of achievement. I do like the game and enjoy playing solo.
I was surprised how much i liked the first Remnant. It looked like a generic, hop in for free time doesnt take a whole lot to feel satisfied with progression sort of game and i was pleasantly surprised how addicted i became. Definitely checking this one out
The PC port is rough. Takes a 4090 to hit 60+ fps in 1440p without DLSS or FSR.
Wow that is terrible considering the game doesn't even have super amazing or intensive graphics going on.
How's the camera shake? I remember trying to play the first one but I get motion sickness even turning off motion blur. First time this happens on a third person game
I have played Remnant: From The Ashes for more than 120hrs and it is my MOST beloved game. Remnant 2 is the only game i pre-ordered EVER. Will be playing it nonstop on PC when I'll finally get my days off. Hearing you talk about the perks system I became super hyped.
Thank you for this short but important insight on what's in the game. You guys are the best.
Accurate description of the story in Remnant games; basically sufficient, but definitely minimal, and that's by design. Combat is what makes these games fun, and the coop is awesome. I've been playing From the Ashes for several years now and it's been so much fun that I broke my own rule (never pre-order, cyberpunk and outriders taught me this) and pre-ordered Remnant 2 so I could play it early. I'm looking forward to hitting this one tomorrow, Gunfire Games really is an awesome studio and they create some visually stunning worlds.
Worse optimization than Jedi Survivor.
4070ti and 13700k here, and I ran Jedi Survivor without any problems other people mentioned at 1440p on Ultra.
This game on Ultra, even with DLSS, overheats my GPU and runs choppy. It was a refund for me.
Remnant from the Ashes was probably one of the most underrated games of all time in how awesome it was while playing Co-Op with friends. I have been looking forward to this sequel for some time and can’t wait to get my hands on it. The hard part is convincing my friends to give it a go as first time players of the series.
Remnant 1 was veeery underrated. I still have a friend on PSN that still plays it today. Can't wait to try this!
I really enjoyed playing through the first game co-op and I'm really looking forward to playing the 2nd co-op too
I dislike any coop games, because I don't have any friends.
Same, or it's just that friends actually have lifes and don't play games :'(
I really hate all these co-op/team based games coming out all the time, this game looks pretty fun but i have absolutely no friends left to play games with.
The first remnant was great! It's one of the better games honestly. I love it when you get the FULL GAME. Not locked down by dlcs or anything. I honestly forgot about this game so now I'll have to play it. I'm not really good at soulslikes but sometimes they can be fun. Like this one for example. I also really enjoy third person shooters like warframe and this game is very close to that.
This game looks and plays amazing. As a Destiny 2 player, I love the comparisons. The strong suit this game has is the generated storytelling, aside from the main story. Gun play is what keeps me coming back to shooters. I look forward to purchasing the game later in the year. [I enjoy catching up and being slower about games]
I wonder if there is interesting lore or if it’s more gameplay based.
Whos here because of ps plus?
