    Michael Romeo is the John Williams of Progressive Metal. Brilliant writer and composer. If the people running the music industry, Grammys, etc. had any clue whatsoever... Symphony X would be as big as that overrated band that starts with an "M".

      Agreed, and I think one of the most overlooked things with Romeo is that around the time of Paradise Lost and Iconoclast he became an absolute god of rhythm guitar. :)

      @@ibd1977 This comment sums up what I was gonna say too lol. The Odyssey in my opinion is the quintessential Symphony X song. It used to be Divine Wings of Tragedy which is another song I highly recommend if you want to react to more Symphony X. It's always the epic long songs that showcase the band as a unit haha. Plus hey Russel Allan, the singer of Symphony X, has collaborated with Ayreon too so definiteky check them out. I'd recommend the song The Day The World Breaks Down by Ayreon. You won't regret it, I promise you.

    You should try out Ayreon! It's a project by Dutch multi-instrumentalist and general musical genius Arjen Lucassen. It's heavily rooted in classic prog. Every album is a prog rock opera, with a huge cast of world-class singers and instrumentalists. I suggest you react to The Day That the World Break Down. There is an official video, which is immensely worth the view.

      I totally see your point. It's just that Dream Theater are a global brand in the world of metal bands. Symphony X...although although an AWESOME band...just have not climbed to
      that global level..that's why we hardly see coverage of them. Just a thought. For instance...John Petrucci himself is a huge brand!!

    React to Swans.
    Granted, it's hard to pick a good first song for them; their albums shine as such a whole so context will be missed. Anyway, I hope, one day, I see a Swans reaction. (Songs are lengthy, usually)
    List of best songs I could think of for first listen: Oxygen, She Loves Me, Cloud of Forgetting, A Little God in My Hands, Failure, Lunacy, Kirsten Supine... That'll do I guess 😬

      I agree that DWOT -> odyssey was SXs prime. After those albums i started to only like a few songs off each album (paradise lost -> underworld) whereas i liked most songs off each of the albums from dwot -> odyssey. Iconoclast is one of the albums i don't really like any of the songs.
      I also don't really like any songs pre-dwot unless the remake of Masquerade with Russell Allen singing counts lol.
      Pre-dwot is too neoclassical for me and a lot of stuff after odyssey just doesn't have the magic from the four albums from their "prime".

    Symphony X's singer is really good. Reminds of Tony Martin, who sang in Black Sabbath in 80's. But the music.. I'm too not-adolescent for this. More just isn't more. There's good parts, but this doesn't sound very progy or new to me. The guitar player of the band, Michael Romeo made an excellent album, Jack the Joker just last year, which is a lot better, as far as I'm concerned.

    • @abrarkadabrar7829
      @abrarkadabrar7829 Před 4 lety

      Agreed. This song is less prog and more symphonic power metal. Cinematic, yes. And it goes through movements, yes. But the composition and style is a bit too far from actual progressive metal. Their albums experienced as a whole usually give a better taste of what they have to offer. I just think the band is straying from their roots of neo-classical symphonic prog metal to more singularly symphonic or power metal, or a mix of the two
